Title: A more thorough survey
Post by Timberlea on Aug 17th, 2003, 8:42pm
???Hi everyone, I'm yet another newbie.  I am a bit in awe of the amount of people that are "coming out of the woodwork" that are cluster headache sufferers.  I am 42 years old and have been suffering episodically since I was 14 years old.  I have had a lot of success with Cafergot, as soon as I start to get that numbing feeling on the left side I pop a Cafergot and within 5-10 minutes it disappears, however my last episode seemed to last quite a long time (2 months) and I think I became immune to the Cafergot because they ceased to work and I went through pure hell.  Thankfully I haven't had one since August 9th and I think they have gone into remission again.  I have a question that I hope somebody can answer, have you ever thought about creating some kind of extremely thorough survey (by extremely, I mean more than the usually "colour of eyes", age, sex, etc.).  After reading through a lot of the really useful info posted on this website, I noticed that it is thought that the hypothalamus is affected during a cluster headache, when I was about 8 years old I fell extremely hard on ice and cracked my tailbone.  I wondered if perhaps this affected my spine and hypothalamus, thus giving me these "suicide headaches".  I then wondered, perhaps this event or something else in our lives could be the same (i.e. I also fell hard on the left side of my head when I was young and had to have stitches, perhaps we all fell and it somehow affected us?), this would then give us all a clue to how we ended up with this horrendous infliction in the first place.   There is probably a lot of other useful info we could gather between ourselves and perhaps come to some conclusion.

I hate to leave such a lengthy message (especially it being my first time), but I would really like to help, not just for myself, but for anybody else who has to go through this hell.

Wow, thanks for the replies.  It certainly sounds like one big family because everybody is so understanding and friendly.  I did the survey on the panel to the left, but felt maybe we could do more with it, unfortunately I'm not really great at putting these kinds of things together, i'd kind of hope somebody who is much more coordinated than I am would take it and run with it.  If not, I will keep it in mind and try to come up with some more ideas about it.  Anyhow, it's just one big relief to know that there are people out there like you guys!!!!

Injury and headaches have been discussed many times here over the years.

I can't answer your question about a connection between injuries and clusters. I have never had a serious injury in my life. Unless you can call a broken-ring finger-while-armwrestling-drunk a serious injury.

At the top right corner of the page is a SEARCH button (next to the HOME and EMAIL buttons, and not the one under the words Message Board).

Type in *injury and hit search. Here's some results to get you started.

Thanks Bob G..  I read through the posts on injuries from the URLs that you sent me and found they contained a lot of insight into just how many people have the same interest in finding out the cause of clusters as I have.   :) :) :) :)

Welcome aboard and look around. You'll find all sorts of good ways to cope with this horror.

As for a survey: A lot detailed stuff has been done but it's not very co-ordinated. Lots of replies are iffy and perhaps skewed by economic and cultural factors.  It's not an easy task. Bob knows what he's doing.

Here is a link to the late Dr. Robert Wright's circulatory technique. It worked well for me and others:

Good luck, stick around and let us know how you're doing.
