Title: Going to a new Neuro...wish me luck!
Post by godsjoy on Aug 12th, 2003, 7:47am
Hey guys....I have sooooooo enjoyed this board through my latest episode of clusters....You guys rock!

I had to find a new GP etc....because of now being on my hubby's insurance....all well and good....a guy near my office....seemed ok....UNTIL......the cluster's hit again....He had been a good boy and prescribed everything I had needed in the past....Maxalt...(30 per month) for a year....Good for stocking up....I was out 'cause I skipped a whole year....wow huh? I have had these things for 14 years and last year was my honeymoon....literally....I'm 49 and my hubby is 51.....He is sooooo great by the way....He took care of his former wife that died of brain cancer.....so this is not new to him.....bless his wonderful heart....

OK....Well...I put the Dr's office staff out too much by asking for all the help to get the forms filled out etc....to get the insurance to let me have more than 12 Maxalt....etc.....I became the patient from hell as far as they were concerned....Though I have always been polite...just persistant....They started with an attitude.....as I begged for more samples until the next month.....Smack dab in the middle of my cycle....and little or no relief.....I got him to prescribe oxygen....a good thing (the guys at the oxygen store were wonderful....and supportive....they get alot of us in and know how to help....

In the meantime I get a Neuro's name off the OUCH list that is on my insurance plan and call for an appointment....not one 'till next NOV.....I say...ok....cool....I'd rather trust a guy that was referred from here than try another &^(*&&^^%$#%$$#@$
doctor from hell.....but I asked to be put on the emerg cancellation list....and THANK GOD they called me yesterday and I have a first time appointmengt today....I filled out on the paperwork that I was referred by this board....:-)

Sooooo.....I have an opportunity to get my meds 3 months at a time for only a 2 month c0-pay....as set up by my insurance co.....(my GP just wouldn't write an RX for 3 months.....what a jerk!....I don't understand since he originally wrote me a whole years worth for 30 pills per month.....I guess the office staff got to him.....I mean for heaven's sake it isn't morphine....or any narcotic...just an expensive vasoconstrictor                     arrrrggghhhhsss!)....

OK....gotta go now.....Pray for me that he will be my friend for years to come....:-)

By the way the Verapamil cut this cycle short....about in half ......as I got on it about 2 weeks ago....and I've been pain free for 3 days now.....yippee.....

Love and blessings,
Karen

Good luck to the patient from hell.

Just kidding  :)
Hope everything goes well at your new Neuro. . . If you don't fight for what you need, who's going to do it for you?

Go Karen!

Good luck on your appointment. Give Roxy (Tracey) or me a call if you want to talk about it later. And, who's the local doc?

Hi guys....Thanks for the heads up.....My new Neuro is Stuart Black of the headache clinic off of Walnut Hill and Greenville Ave.....I think he's gonna be a winner....He said....and I quote "Acute Pancreatitus and cluster headaches are the 2 most painful conditions known to man....and any doctor who blows off and ignores the needs of a cluster headache patient is a total jerk and has never had a cluster headache"....I just sighed....smiled and said "thank you".....I wanted to kiss him.....naw.....but I know I am gonna be in good hands.....sigh of wonderful relief....

I told the dentist I work for..." Watch out for me these days I'm a bitch on wheels!" Guess these headaches does things for your "fight to win"......

Blessings y'all,
Karen

Good luck with this. At least you're well armed.

Kick some butt
