Title: lets go to congress........... Post by Ree on Aug 8th, 2003, 12:46pm and Im not talking about your doggie Ted... How does one go about sitting before congress to get things changed with the insurance companies. Today I pick up daves imatrex 18 pills cost me 70$... they only issue 9 per month because that is what they say is allowed per month... (what we have is a two month supply)... my question is how do we get to Congress to tell them that there is 1% of the population that is suffering this terrible battle and without enough medication to cover it. This is why when the doc asked why arent we medicating at the first sign... All CHers try to sit the attack out or see if they can...(thats our experience here anyway) Now Daves hits are horrendous and alot of them per day. 18 pills will be lucky to last a week never mind 2 months........... he still has 10 shots left because I was hording them over the past 2 years for him like a good little supporter...............ok just thinkin here let me know what ya think... How do we do this??? ree |

These drug manufacturers shell out big time to our gutless wonders in Congress to maintain laws that are unique to them such as trying to insure indefinite patent extensions and import regulations good only to keep prices inflated. When they let a patent run out, they stop advertising the drug and crank out a new one to compete with the generic. Then they try to scare consumers by telling them that Canadian drugs may be inferior or even dangerous. Bullshit. Canada isn’t in the Caribbean. Sad to say, unless you are one of the few billionaire recipients of the so called Bush tax cut, you can’t write $10,000 checks to get heard. Turns out that it’s okay to throw thousands of people off access to needed health benefits, including some veteran programs, so long as the re-election cash keeps rolling in. In it, cite any specific statistics, testimonials, etc. you can find along with their sources. You have a good point, and the only ones that can do anything about it is unfortunately congress. I guarantee you one thing...if you sit idle and say nothing, they will definately do nothing. If you try, well... You will at least get a response to your letter although you may not like that response. At any rate, that is how those things are started. The only other way would be to get some very strong media attention in favor of the sufferers and against the insurance companies in that congressman's/woman's district and have them "react." The problem is CHs do represent a SMALL population which does not mean much to someone hoping to be re-elected or whatever. On the flip side...people dealing with insurance companies for prescription medications represent the VAST MAJORITY of that same population. It all depends on how you present it. Chris |
