Title: Does anyone else 'shadow' 24/7?
Post by Carl_D on Aug 4th, 2003, 2:15pm
The last couple of years, I have shadowed non-stop. Some days it is light, and other days it feels like my head is in a vise, or I am at a constant level 1 or 2 attack. Vicodin and tramadol combined used to help alot, but lost its effectiveness. Since I have been out of the hospital, I have only had Tramadol (which SUCKS! Makes ya itch, sweat, puke - all kinds of fun stuff), and I eat Ibuprofen like M&Ms. The last month and a half has been hell, and all I want in this world is ONE NIGHT of absolute uninterrupted sleep. I took my Remeron, Amitriptyline and Zyprexa last night and both times I fell asleep, I couldn't have been out more than 10-15 minutes and then BAM! FUNTIME! So, my ass is dragging today, and I have the blessed knot in my temple saying "I'm not going anywhere!" But hey, such is life. It could be worse I guess; I could be a chronic CH sufferer and quadroplegic, unable to hold my head, unable to throw things, punch things... I'd prolly just sit there, cry and begged to be shot.

Peace,
Carl D

"I eat Ibuprofen like M&Ms."

Dude, that's gotta stop.  There's no way it's helping and it's more than likely causing more harm than good.

I have been in my cycle for a few weeks now and have had shadows all day every day.  Yesterday was the only day that I have been pain free for weeks... and then I got hit at 5 a.m. with about a KIP 8.  Then, more shadows all day today.

I don't know how to get them to stop... but it's about to drive me crazy.  I don't know how chronic people deal with this.

... I'll second that...

... I was taking over 50 Excedrin Meegrain's a week before I was told that they caused rebound HA... and Trust me.. they do.

... and I actually went through withdrawl headaches from that... 1 Excedrine Meegrain has the same amount of Caffeen (sp) as a cup of java... and I was drinking 5 Mtn. Dews and a few cups of coffee a day anyway...

... very little sleep.

Before I found my miricle medicine I was either in a kip 10 or shadowing very strongly almost 24/7.  I would get hit 8 times a day but in shadow land the rest of the time.  Sorry to hear the beast is treating you not much better.

Oh Dan did I ever tell you I hate the term Meegrain...it just rubs me the wrong way... kind of like moving the hair on your head when you are in the midst of a cycle.  Kind of like taking a band aid and ripping it off your hairy leg... Kind of like taking someones knee out with a base ball bat....or super gluing the little hole on your penis shut........ arent you glad you dont live near me... try not to use that term please............ thankyou  Ree

I'm kind of like Big Dan ...

when I am in cycle , the shadows don't stop -

when  I am out of cycle ,  I am truely pain free.

The shadows I get , are just like the volume control on a stereo, turned down real low ........ then turned up, just a little,  than back down again ... then turned up ,  then down ....    but just constantly there ....      then,  sometimes it gets turned up,  stays up, and I am dancing ....

Wishing you PF

Man.... some serious shit.  Carl - you have my sympathy, and I'm sure you know it's genuine since it's coming from a fellow sufferer, the same as everyone else here.

I'm still a little unclear about the concept of "shadow".  With me, pretty much all the time I'm in a cycle when I'm not having a full-blown attack, I'm feeling a low-grade CH, kind of a heavy pressure at times - and that's the light end of the spectrum.  It never goes away during the two or three months of the cycle.

Even now, for instance, I've been out of the cycle maybe a month but it still feels as though there's a plug in my right ear and a bit of very minor throb in the temple area.  Nothing to make me want to take anything, but definitely something I notice.

Are these what you call shadows?

This past week I've "shadowed" 24/7 also but only as of this past week.....I am a big coffee drinker and that doesn't do anything to help it, but probably cause I'm "ammune" sorta to the caffeine.

How many of you are chronics and shadow almost constantly? My brother-in-law I think he might have CH but if he does (not currently diagnosed) he is chronic. I live 1300 miles away and get most of the info second hand and I just wish they would try him on verapamil and something else to see if it will work. I hate for him to continue to suffer. I am sending info in the hopes that they will get a doctor to try something. They are not being pushy like I would be.

I am chronic, but the shadows come and go like the beast itself.  I rarely shadow after an attack.  Shadows preceed attacks occasionally, but there are times where I have had shadows non-stop all day long.  On the comparison, I'll take the shadows.  They get annoying, but the pain is very minor.  My only grief about shadows is worrying whether or not an attack is following.  I normally do not even attempt to stop a shadow as it is futile.  I am still pretty much unmedicated for CH (waiting to see this damn neuro STILL!!!) although I have a ton of maxalt.  Unfortunately, the maxalt does notta for me.

Definately avoid meds that are known to cause rebounds if possible.

Chris
