Title: Jeez... gotta get serious again Post by fubar on Jul 28th, 2003, 9:27pm Most of you know the story of Sandy, my friend who came so close to death last year before she got a lung transplant. For those who don't know, she has a fatal disease call Pulmonary Fibrosis. You think CH is evil? You should check this bastard out. It has killed her whole family and I've helped her bury them all (mother, sister, brother...) Well, Sandy was doing pretty well for a woman who was 3 hours away from being 'unplugged' from life support back on Dec 14th. Unfortunately, she is back at Stanford Medical now with a collapsed lung and I can't get any information that makes me feel better. I know she needs vibes and prayers and voodoo magic, so if you can, let loose and send some her way I would be grateful. They are talking about surgery to remove the remaining part of her one original lung (some of that had to be removed some years back) but that would leave her with only the transplant lung and no safety net if the transplant is rejected. Arghhhhh. Anyway, any help appreciated. |

She has survived so much already- she has you and I'm sure others to stand beside her while she beats the odds once again. Please add my vibes, juju, prayers and fervent wishes that she, once again, stares pulmonary fibrosis in the face and says NOT ME! Title: Re: Jeez... gotta get serious again Post by fubar on Jul 28th, 2003, 11:36pm Latest update is they are going to attempt to locate and relieve the air pressure that has built up inside her from a leak in the old lung (the 2/3 of a lung that is original). The surgery is tomorrow, and if it is successful she would be able to keep the lung for a while. I guess the hole in it is supposed to heal up once the pressure is relieved.. hell I don't know. I will update you all late tomorrow. She is so sad and depressed. She's got one of those incredibly painful tubes shoved into that lung to drain it, but they haven't found the proper positioning for it yet so they keep 'adjusting it. If you've ever had one, I know you're shuddering at the thought. Spending 3 months in Intensive Care at Stanford can make you want to avoid hospitals you know. Every time I ask you guys, she makes some incredible progress, so don't fail me now. I can't deal with losing the last one. -Shawn |
