Title: OUCH UK (Raising Money) Post by Jayne on Jul 27th, 2003, 9:43am Well, I have decided I am going to do something for OuchUK this fall (when the weather gets cooler) I have done things for OuchUS and want to do something for my homeland Ouch. In the fall I plan to do a Sponsored Beg. I will be asking friends family and clusterbuds who want to sponsor me to do this. I will be going out onto the streets of Nashville with my OuchUK donation box. I plan to wear the OuchUK gear and beg for the cause. I will be handing out leaflets obout our ilness to all who ask me what it means. I decided to do a beg because...... If you do a run or a silence etc..you are only making money from your sponsors...a "beg" I will be making money two ways for the cause. So with that said, I have alreay had promises of sponsors and am writing down how much they would like to sponsor me. If any one here would like to sponsor me please email me Jayne_salters@yahoo.com or IM me and I will write down you name and how much you would like to sponsor me for. I plan to get someone to take pictures of me doing this and I am going to try and get some television coverage or newspaper coverage as well. I'll start off by sponsoring myself $100. anyone? It is customarily performed by UK citizens when our rich transatlantic cousins come into view. It does seem to work, as we end up with the money and the Americans end up with a feeling of moral rectitude! Simon Bower was one of our original Board of Directors before we discussed and settled on OUCH in other countries (they have done a good job of it too). Yes we do appreciate Goadsby's research which was underway long before OUCH-UK existed. He's a good Aussie, Doc Goadsby. And don't think that we aren't envious of being able to volunteer for the research, we are. I still think that if you're part of OUCH your support should go to that home organization first. Bob, actually OUCH UK does request a membership fee AND any donations people may feel able to give, but as I'm sure you know, the UK is very small and consequently there is a limited number of people donating to a very good cause. I am not an expert on OUCh UK but I know they have done all sorts of things like purchase sets for people to borrow to try out 02 and see if it works for them before they shell out loads of money. They are also supporting some groundbreaking work on the genetic links for CH, doing a huge lifestyle survey to assist Queen's Square in their research etc etc etc What is the reason behind not asking for a membership fee by the way?? I am not on the Ouch US message board asking for sponsors.The geography of my domicile should never be an issue. I have had promises from all different countries for my little effort here. This place was not created for just American residents as I am sure all would agree. I am both a member of Ouch Us and Ouch UK. I am a cluster head and I hate being one. I know there are Italians that are members of Ouch US. Any way I am not responding to any more of this silly stuff. I normally would not be able to afford such an amount but my husband has found a missing part of his fathers Estate and due to this we will have quite a bit of money coming in next month and what a way to spend a chunk of it!! We are not sure on the exact amount of the check we are getting which is why I said it could be more but I can promise the 400 for now. I have to add to my resume....I am a great "beggar" I will add up my total begging so far and post tomorrow. I am already GOB SMACKED by the awesome response I have had. I have already chosen a wonderful spot in Nashville where I shall be sitting with my begging pot. I will have a big sign next to me, explaining why I am begging. I will be handing out leaflets explaining our illness. I will be wearing the uniform of OUCH UK! IT WILL HELP US ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of all of you that have stepped up to the plate with your promises. I will contact my local paper and television and hopefuly get more promises that way too.
