Title: 3 PFDANs...Is the episode over???
Post by sargeslope on Jul 17th, 2003, 11:25am
OK, quick history:

Male, Age 31
Began at age 23
CHs yearly sometime between March-July.
Lasts 2-3 weeks
Daily and multi-daily CHs for that period (episode)
Had 4-year relapse, with no CHs  :)
Episode began June 21, 2003
Last CH - July 14, 2003 2:00am

Since then, I have not had a single twinge or shadow and have slept through the night, pain free.

Question is, at what point can I declare the episode over?

Since there's no handbook...
I think you train yourself into knowing, since it's different for everyone.  I'm never exactly clear anymore.  One episode fades, and a few weeks later, they're ramping up again.

Hey Sargeslope!

My neuro says to wait two weeks with no attacks to be sure the cycle is over.  In my experience, a week without CH is usually a sign it's over.  But the beast tends to get me back when I think I am finished with him... so I get very nervous and I try no to "jinx" it.

But looking at your history, I would think you can start putting beer in the freezer.  That is certainly what I hope for you.  Enjoy the pain free moments!

I don't have a timeframe for you. It seems like i just sit back and realize, Damn, I havent had a Ch in over a week, and realize it is over!

Sarge,
the two week window seems to be the safe bet. You may get some isolated ones after that, but nothing bad. Like MiCHel said, start stocking up on beer. Congrats.

Lets just say I wouldn't go out and grab a nice cold brew just yet. 2 weeks PF is my safety standard.

you will just "know"....in the beginning ya don't wanna get hopes up, then as days pass, you'll gradually get your bearings and sail onward -smooth...............

Well wishes.PFDAN. :)

Sarge,

Don is absolutely right!  When I said start putting some beer in the freezer, I meant you are probably very close to the end... but I would't take any chance with it just yet (especially if you believe it is a trigger).  It's a game I have lost too many times in the past...

Sorry if I wasn't clear with the first post :-[  Too much beer at lunchtime...  Good luck my friend!

Hi Sarge!

Defintely go with the 2-week waiting period.  With only 3 days pf under your belt, you never know if the beast is lurking or not.

here's to hoping you're PF - and get those beers chilled   ;D

Hard to say when to declare them gone.

I do think it does no good to plan on the next one. It doesn't help and makes them even more debilitating.

Here's hoping it's over.

Sarge,

Don't jinx yourself!!!  Like MiCHel said, the beast tends to get you when you think you're finished with him.

I had 4 PF days in a row last week and was feeling pretty good about things.  Next thing I know, he visits again the past two days.  ???

I try not to think about it being over for fear of jinxing it.  Although, it's very hard not to think about it, especially when you've got shadows hanging around for days.

Good luck and I hope your done with them for now.

Sarge,

You didn't say anything about medications.  You should probably check with your neuro about tapering off.  If you are already off all meds, and still went a week, you are probably in the clear.  My own history is that my cycles last 4 months.  If I try to taper off the meds sooner than the 4 months, they always come back with a vengeance.

I am not on any meds. I find that they work better on my wallet than on my CHs. The only thing that has ever worked for me is exercise/weights.

Thanks to everyone who responded. You people are a great resource and inspiration. I will try to gauge this episode by the "two week" rule many of you suggested.

BTW, last night was #4 in a row PF!!    :D
