Title: Depression
Post by Pushkin on Jul 12th, 2003, 9:27am

I'm just ranting. This cycle has me really depressed. My physician prescribed Lisinopril when I went for O2 because my blood pressure was high. I think this stuff is really dragging me down. Feeling more exhaused than usual and really blown away. Anybody have any experience with Lisinopril or similar meds? I'm going to stop taking it, CH is bad enough without additional depression and fatigue.

Thanks for listening.

Hello,
I have ne experiance with Lisinopril, but have expierianced side effects such as depression or worse,
with many meds.
Are you/can you  take verapamil?A large dose of
Verapamil may very well kill two birds with one stone.
Lowering blood presure and preventing/lessesning the
CH.The other BP meds do not usualy work as well for
CH as Verapamil.
              Pain free wishes to all,
                                        Billy

Maybe you should try adjusting the dosage before going off of them.

Lisinopril, or Zestrex, is an ACE inhibitor.  You should NEVER EVER stop taking it without consulting your Dr. first.....it needs to be gradually withdrawn.  This drug doesn't cure high blood pressure, just keeps it under control.

The side-effects of this drug are about 2 pages long, with two of them being fatigue and depression.

Drugs to NOT take in conjunction are: Indomethacin, diuretics, Lithium.     Hope this helps.

BillyJ and Don,

Thank you for the replies and the info. I'll ask my Doc about Verapamil for BP.

Since I've just started the Lisinopril and it really appears to have a bad effect I'm stopping it because I rarely have drug side effects, but when I do they are severe, and this one is really bad. Advice to adjust the dosage is a good and logical one, but in this case I just feel real sh%#y about this drug.

Again, thanks for the replies.

I've heard that many blood pressure medicines have depression as a side effect.  That may be why doctors tend to prescribe mood elevators in conjunction with them.

Take Linda's advice though.... do not just STOP... you should advise your Doc and agree on a tapering off schedule if you decide to stop it.
