Title: A soldier in the field
Post by Jayne on Jun 25th, 2003, 4:46pm
I am a soldier.

I sit here in a field all alone awaiting the devil to show his evil face on the horizon.

We have been fighting this war  for a few years.
When he arrives I see his head very slowly appear on the hill. The sky begins to turn black and a blood red at the same tme. The atmosphere starts to get hot and prickly. He starts to crawl towards me with evil glee. His skin is hot and boiling. The ground bursts in to flames as he passes over it. The clouds above begin to rain fire and hail in the shape of daggers.
He swipes down on me with his electric tallons and his eyes send piercing shocks through my brain. I can't take my eyes away from him. The pain sears through my body, already weak and exhausted from years of battle.
His demon slaves run down the hill and scrape at my gums with razors. They laugh and poke at my eye with  rusty nails.
I hear him laugh, and he tells me he will never let me go. "There's only one way you can escape me, and that will be at your own hand" He smiles as a demon presents me with a gun.
I scream at him "NO!" and then I reach for MY trusty gun.

I fire and it hits him square between his lizard eyes.
I have had to be very careful with my ammunition in the past. He hates my bullets. When it hits him he recoils with a deafining scream that pierces my skull. Slowly he  retreats over the hill  with his demons in tow.
The sky becomes blue again.
There is a cool breeze and I breathe a sigh of relief and wipe away the sweat from my brow.
I am exhausted from the small fight. I know in the past he has had the better of me and tortured me for hours, so I am thankfull for the short encounter.

I look down at my supplies and realize I have only one more "shot" left. The fear paralizes me. I don't have the enery to fight him one on one. I just don't have it in me any more. I scamble for my radio and call out to my friends who are also soldiers sitting in their own fields waiting for "Him" I sceam for help. "May day, May day, I am almost out, help me someone for God's sake" I fall into a fitfull worried sleep, praying into my blanket that someone heard me.

The next morning I awake and look pitifully at my one last bullet, and I load and tremble and look to the hill.

I hear a plane overhead and look up. It is a plane I have seen before. On the wing the letters "CHMB" are painted proudly. I jump for joy.
Packages of ammuniton are floating down in small parachutes. I scream in delight and I laugh for the first time in a long while. I give a vigorous wave as the plane flies on. I skip and jump over my deliveries and whoop and holler.
I gather up my gifts and cry with relief. I can continue the battle! I can still beat him!

That night I sit by the fire and laugh at the horizon. I sceam at him, hoping he can hear. "I'm not scared you bastard" "bring it on assehole!!"

I sit in the dark and stare at the fire and pray that my other troops are managing to keep up the good fight.
I also say another prayer of thanks that my cry for help was heard over the radio. I relax and start to fall asleep with a smile. I CAN CARRY ON!

To my troops..........THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jayne,
I am so happy to hear that your fellow troops were able to supply you with the ammunition needed to win this battle with the beast.my wish would be that the beast would retreat and never do battle with you or your fellow ch soldiers.
As a supporter I wish there was a way I could help my husband Billy wage his war with the beast. All I can do is make sure he's near his ammo (oxygen) and pray for it to end soon.I kinda feel like the u.s.o I'm here to support him ,hold his hand and entertain him with stupid jokes  ;D.I don't mean to belittle what we supporters do for our beloved clusterheads but I just wish I could do more.
I'm sorry I'm rambling I just wanted to say what a great post I thought this was. This family is truely amazing .When someone needs help you are always there for them wether it's meds,a prayer or words of encouragement .wishing you all pfdan
                                    Minnie

Yes that was and AWESOME Post! I have never thought of it that way " A SOLDIER " Your analogy is just what we are. Doing battle with and enemy we can not see, but none the less IT causes us pain like a soldier who has been captured and then tortured till we escape but only for a short time. Then the enemy capture us again and again till the battle of the cycle is over for a  length of time only known to the beast. You know deep down He will be back, so you stand guard always ready hoping He never catches you off guard or asleep in your fox hole.

Very well done Jayne. I enjoyed reading it very much.

God bless Soldier,

TerryS

I'm new and you all don't know me...yet ;) But I just wanted to say that that story/anology was amazing.  I've noticed some true writers with talent on this mb in my travels around here the last few days.  Brought tears to my eyes more than once.
