Title: Urgent Oxygen request Post by Margi on Jun 23rd, 2003, 2:52pm I have a sufferer and her daughter writing to the Family Services Team who lives in Mabelvale, Arkansas. She has no insurance, no meds and is getting hit hard right now. Her daughter is afraid she will become suicidal soon (even though Mom reassures me she won't), but I think all supporters worry about that at some point or another. Her doc sent her to an opthamologist (!), she's had the MRI's, MRA's, CT Scans, you name it - all typical clusterhead hoops to jump through only to be told everything is normal. Sent home with a pile of meds (the only recognizable cluster meds were imitrex and indomethacin). Nothing helped but she had to drain her bank to pay for all these tests and meds. They did give her a script for O2, but she ran out of funds before she could fill it, so she's never had a chance to try it. I've written back suggesting she contact her local fire department to set something up for her to try their O2 next time, but I've not heard back from her. Anyone know of any welders' supply places in Arkansas where she can get some cheap oxygen? Or know of any clusterheads in the area who aren't using their supply right now? Please, folks? This gal sounds pretty desparate. :'( Jonny, sorry, I couldn't wait for you to answer my mail about this, she's written to me a couple of times since I mailed you about this - figured I'd have a better chance of response here. |

Mablevale is only about 15 miles south of Little Rock (where I was born). There is a much better chance of finding a helpful shop there. Title: Re: Urgent Oxygen request Post by Margi on Jun 23rd, 2003, 3:42pm oh, thank you SO much, Mark!! I'll sure send her this list. Any great ideas on how just a regular consumer can get a tank of welders' oxygen, without being a dealer? I was hoping Jonny would answer this thread, but ... I guess not. Again, Mark - from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I love this community! |

Title: Re: Urgent Oxygen request Post by Linda_Howell on Jun 23rd, 2003, 5:43pm Margi, If she would rather not have to mess around with welders 02 and then go looking for mask and reg. I checked and there are 9 branch offices of Lincare where I go to get my 02, in Arkansas. I couldn't find her town on the map to try to give her info on the nearest one to where she lives and everytime I try to type in 9 address here, I get bumped off-line. If she wants to give you her phone number, I'll call her and give her the info over the phone. Also I have no idea if they'll do this on credit. She'll just have to ask them. LindaH |

Title: Re: Urgent Oxygen request Post by Donna on Jun 23rd, 2003, 7:39pm It's for reasons like this that I think we should have an SOS Committee and emergency funds. It could be soooooo workable....I've got a bunch of ideas and I'm sure all of you do too! When are we going to set up a real system? Aren't you tired of all these emergencies and lost time? When our people need help, they need it NOW. Plenty of us can afford a few bucks a month to help Family.....and we do have some very talented and resourceful people around here with ideas on how to cut costs, and offer sources with help. |

Title: Re: Urgent Oxygen request Post by Margi on Jun 23rd, 2003, 8:21pm awesome idea Donna - in fact, Don's working on that as we speak. He put up a post on the BoD board today with precisely this thought. Kinda takes me back to the early days of OUCH. :) Thanks everyone for your help here - THIS is what ch.com is really all about. |

Title: Re: Urgent Oxygen request Post by SommelierCH on Jun 24th, 2003, 7:55am Great stuff kids, You helped bring me back into focus. I originally wanted to raise money for OUCH so that we could have a fund for Chers without insurance or money, who are getting hit. Barbara’s Healing Doll Auction has raised $361.00 for OUCH, could a portion of that donated auction money be used to start this SOS fund, and in particular be used to help this mother out? Can I stipulate that part of the money raised by the on-going ClusterArt OUCH Auctions be used for this fund? I will continue to brainstorm (or sprinkle in my case) ways for us to raise money (hopefully not just from each other) and bring awareness to our disease. I have no money post IRS/bankruptcy, so this is the best I can do. But, I must do something, I owe this place big time. David J. |
