Title: ANSWERS TO Name That Tune #2
Post by Spindrift on Jun 17th, 2003, 9:53am
And here are the answers:

6.  I Won't Dance, Don't Ask Me
7.  Everything's Up To Date in Kansas City
8.  Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
9.  Polka Dots and Moonbeams
10.  Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life
11.  Willow Weep for Me
12.  There's a Small Hotel (With a Wishing Well)
13.  Strike Up the Band
14.  On the Sunny Side of the Street
15.  A Woman is a Sometime Thing
16.  Try to Remember (The Kind of September)
17.  76 Trombones
18.  Strutting With Some Barbecue
19.  With a Little Bit of Luck
20.  We Kiss in a Shadow
21.  Oh Dem Golden Slippers

By Popular (sort of) demand.

And since I'll be away 6/20-29 I'm posting a double dose of 'em.  Will supply answers upon my return.  So without further ado:

"Ladies and Gentlemen, start your synapses!"

6.  The likelihood of my engaging in the rhythmic manipulation of my corporeal self is nonexistent (therefore it would be of little worth for you to petition me to commence such activity).

7.  In the second largest metropolitan area of the state of Missouri, the status of all measurable phenomena - including, but not limited to, structures, customs and attitudes - is analogous to similar modes considered on the forefront of current fashion in all other locales.

8.  The gaseous by-products of the combustion process of all normal fuel sources presently inhibits the functioning of your sight-oriented sense organs.

9.  The confluence of a fabric pattern composed of proportionately large shaded circular figures set against a field of neutral color, with discrete packages of photons emanating from within the nearest large thermonuclear gas cloud, and reflected off the surface features of the rocky satellite in elliptical orbit around the planet.

10.  An exclamation of satisfaction and/or surprise at the paradoxically sucrose-infused conundrum which seeks to explain the very presence of self-replicating chlorophyll- or carbon-based units.

11.  Would that one of the arboreal variety Salix Babylonica discharge cohesive drops of sodium-enriched fluid in my behalf.

12.  The diminutive commercial lodging contains on its premises a vertical tunnel at whose base lies a fluid sub strata, the express purpose of which is to coax bystanders to cast thereinto tokens of generally metallic legal tender as they manifest specific, usually unspoken hopes for positive future occurrences.

13.  Cause the ensemble composed solely of non-bowed musical instruments to commence their selection.

14.  Located specifically on that part of the macadamized, internal combustion engine-driven vehicular byway which is bathed in constant but beneficial ultra high-wave electromagnetic radiation.

15.  Any non-male is a time-dilated phenomenon of proven unreliability.

16.  Endeavor to engage your hard-wired synapses in recreating the imaginative existence of a specific type of summer-ending four week period.

17.  A staggering number of modern day descendants of the sackbutt.

18.  Moving in a rigid, stylized forward motion while grasping a quantity of heat-treated and highly spiced edible morsels of herbivorous origin.

19.  Accompanied by a statistically insignificant quantity of providential circumstance.

20.  Our mutual osculation takes place in a location delineated by the obfuscation of direct visually-accessible electromagnetic radiation.

21.  An exclamation of surprise at such domiciliary footwear as are fabricated from and/or decorated by a familiar troy-weight precious metal.

Anyone who gets #9 is indeed worthy of praise.  And as for #17.... if you get the last word you've got it.

Good luck!

Ok, enough for me for now. LOL

All I can say is:  wow.

You guys are amazing!

Specifically:

Cathy - most of the guesses in the other posts are correct.  If you recognize those tunes, you'll do fine.

Sherry - my hat, socks and most of the rest of my clothing is off to you, my dear.  You are boffo!  Specifically, you have numbers 6,7,8,9, 11 and 17 correct.  Bravo bravo bravo on 9 and, echoing Margi, on the sackbutt.  You are incorrect, however, on 20... but I'm sure you'll get it 'ere long.

Margi - correctomundo on 10 and 21 and sorry about the bank job.  You are also smack dab on the simoleons, it's "won't dance".  Like Sherry you are close but no panatella on 20, and the correct title to 16 is "Try to Remember the Kind of September", from, of course, "The Fantasticks".

N4H:  bravo to you for a very fine attempt on #12.  Not correct however.  Ponder upon "diminutive commercial lodging".

I stand, er, sit, in awe.

18.  The Hot Tamale March?  The Taco Two Step?  throw me a bone here!!! grrr.

Cathy - like some others, you've made a good but not perfect stab at 20.

Margi - yours on 13 is also a noble attempt, really a very very good guess.  Cogitate upon the word "commence" to grab the brass ring there.  For 18, you've dipped south of the border when you ought to remain closer to home.  But I'll allow as how this one's a little more obscure...

Ree - don't let it get to you!  I recommend ice cream in vast quantities for any confusion.

Good going, gals!

Hey Spin - I'm sitting here with a gallon of Blue Belle Banana Pudding ice cream and still can't figure a darn one of these out!   ???

Ree - don't fall for this trick - it will only make you frustrated with yourself even more!   ;)  (but it sure is good!!!!!!!!!!)

Margi - Strike Up the Band is correct!  The hot dog and chili references are still wide of center however.   You go, girl!  (oh, and I am not Todd.  Sorry.)

Mia - I'm envious of the i.c.  enjoy!

Many thanks, all,

Title: Re: Name That Tune #2

Hmm....

ok, as a Canadian, I'm officially giving up on #18.  All Y'all eat some strange things there and a herbivore in your world could be anything from a cow to a rodent (ick)...  and I just can't relate to that kind of "delicacy".  So THERE.

Do we really have to wait until the 30th for the answers, Spin?

Margi, yeah you're right about the consumables.  Still, #18 is a bit outside the mainstream I'll agree.

As far as the answers, how about this:  I'll post them tomorrow, 6/19, the day before I leave.  Most of them have been guessed already, but maybe there are a few I'll need to fill in.

Thanks for playing our game,
SD

PS  For the record, I'm a vegetarian.

Cat, yes, they took top honors.  As for another batch 'o melodies - I'm off on a trip for the next 9 days, but I'll throw a few more on the barbie when I get back.

Thanks for asking!
