Title: Follow-up to lefty-righty question...
Post by fubar on Jun 16th, 2003, 3:31pm
This question is a little different.  It's a two-part question.  First, what side do you get your headaches on, and second, do you consider yourself a left-brain person or a right-brain person or neither?

I clipped the following description of right vs. left from funderstanding.com:

Experimentation has shown that the two different sides, or hemispheres, of the brain are responsible for different manners of thinking. The following table illustrates the differences between left-brain and right-brain thinking:

Left Brain
 Logical
 Sequential
 Rational
 Analytical
 Objective
 Looks at parts

Right Brain
 Random
 Intuitive
 Holistic
 Synthesizing
 Subjective
 Looks at wholes

Most individuals have a distinct preference for one of these styles of thinking. Some, however, are more whole-brained and equally adept at both modes. In general, schools tend to favor left-brain modes of thinking, while downplaying the right-brain ones. Left-brain scholastic subjects focus on logical thinking, analysis, and accuracy. Right-brained subjects, on the other hand, focus on aesthetics, feeling, and creativity.

So, which side do you have pain on, and which category would you put yourself in?  I'm curious if there is any correlation.

-Fu

BTW, I'm CH-right, left brained.

Left side of head but I'm not sure of the relevance. I'm both right and left mean and cranky.

All that aside, I'm somewhat ambidextrous but left-oriented in most ways. Makes for sloppy tipyying typing.

Don't even think about it.

Right side CH, predominantly left brain, and somewhat ambidextrous.

I look left when recalling actual facts and right when creating/imagining a visual of something unknown.

Right side CH.  (god... imagine the relief - relative of course - if they could go over to the left side for a little while?  even ONCE.... please????)

Probably right brained except when I write or play music.

Fascinating line of inquiry.  Does anyone know if research is being done to investigate this?

Actually, unless that was a joke, creativity like that is generally considered a right-brain function.

Left CH, Left brained

But I aspire towards right brainity! LOL

I paint, I dance, I sing... but only in the most analytical and anal retentive way.   I can do creative stuff but am not naturally creative myself.

I'm sure this has no medical relevence because this is a random sample, but here are some results so far:

from 24 counted responses, we have

19 of 24 are left-brained  (79.2%)

13 of 24 are left brained, right side cluster
This represents 54.2% of the total, and 68.4% of left brained)

6 of 24  left brained, left side cluster (25%)

Nobody has reported right brained, left cluster yet.

Interesting results, I think.
