Title: HEART EXAMINATION
Post by ZAIRA on Jun 16th, 2003, 1:57pm
;D

Today I did an heart examination and I was diagnosed of a Bradycardian and heart Arrhythmy (or heart Arrithmya  ???  ;D...!) due to the hight dosage of Verapamil and Imitrex ??? ... the doctor is convinced that the problem is due to the meds, and that reducing them, the problem will disapper.

I’ve never had heart problems. What do you think about it?

I don’t know how I’ll do reduce Imitrex... I have 5 attacks every day...

Thanks, Zaira  ;) :'(

Zaira,
So sorry to hear the news. My heart prevents me from using it as well after only two uses, because of another, pre-existing condition.

You told me that and it helped me. I know way more about heart disease and blood pressure than CH. Not sure if know about your condition, but ask if you have any questions. My thoughts and prayers are yours today. PF soon. Darren

Thats terrible......how about O2 Zazi, have you tried that? I do know Imitrex is hard on the heart. I did not know it would make one have heart problems though. Hang in there girl!

Za,
Shouldn't the Imitrex increase heart rate and blood pressure? I would try to tell your doctor that decreasing the Varapamil would be best. Also tell them that they would not like to see the result of reducing Imitrex. By the way do you take shots? if you do try using the Imitrex tip too reduce your total Imitrex amount. Also if you drink coffee, tea or other cafinated drinks, drinking less or none may help more with the arrhythmia.

Zaira,

Alas, Zaz.....you're FAR too young to have heart problems. There's nothing feared more as a clusterhead than hearing the dreaded words "No More Triptans!" Perhaps you may be able to continue using different triptans to aid you. Best of luck!

Just to be on the safe side, here's a template that my neuro gave me to have tattooed on the chest (just in case):

Zairia,

My daughter had Bradycardia when she was born.  Please do what the dr.'s tell you to .. It is a scary thing/

No matter what medicine you take the beast can still break through.  I think we have all found that out at one time or another.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Nancy

Zaira I am hoping the best for you.  I was surprised to hear about this because I was under the impression that verapamil was used to regulate heart rythmns, not cause irregular ones.  Wish I had all the answers but you are in my thoughts for sure.  Stuey :(

Sorry bout the condition ZAIRA....I'm wondering if the doc is thinkin this condition will subside somewhat in due time once the med buildup has gotten out of yer system with as much as you have to use...then....you can go back to normal or close to normal doses after sum time passes ? I could be wrong....sum meds build up toxic levels in time. This isn't my area so am jus wondering....take care girl.......Pammie that gets a hop skip and jump sumtimes too

Rats.

Over here, I'd want a least one more opinion but you know what you're doing. Perhaps now is the time to perfect the little technique I post and I know you have. It's one thing that has zero side effects and can make your day a little better too.

Damn sorry Zaira

Zaira I am so sorry that the drs have given you bad news.  Vepramil causes me to have an irregualar heart beat so I can't take it either.  I am praying for you that you are able to find something to replace it.

Hey Zazi,

I take 720 mgs of Verapamil a day......This also treats my High Blood Pressure and my Ventricular Tachacardia and my Mitral valve prolapse, and heart murmur.  I do very well with it.  On the other hand you have a different problem Zazi, and it could cause others to appear as well.  So you might want to get a secound opinion like Charlie suggested, because even with all of this i still use the Imitrex Injections.......Doc said it was all right to, so i do.  Once in a great while i get a little chest discomfort, but nothing to worry about.

Hope all the best for you Zazi, and hope the head feels better now!     You going to have to quit hitting it on things girl....LOL.... ;)

Mikey,  ;D

Zaira,

I'm so sorry you have another medical problem to handle now.  You are smart, strong, and have a great family here.

Did your doc suggest any meds to take in place of the Verap and Trex?   I'd think you could try cutting down one at a time and see which one or if it is both causing your heart condition.

I don't know what meds you have tried in the past, but there are many options.

Sending many good thoughts, vibes, and prayers,
Kate

You are in a tough situation that may have a good ending. My CH attacks acually became fewer when I cut my dosage of Imitrex. Don't know why this happened but everybodys body chemistry handles things its own way---hope yours is similar to mine, you need a break. My lucky prayer is coming your way.

Very sorry to hear this Zaira.  I would agree with others above about the O2 though, if it works.

CH won't kill you....Heart problems could.

Good Luck and Stay Hard!

Zaira,

Sorry to hear of this.  Verapamil is often used to calm down fast heart beats, e.g. tachycardia and fibrillation, in addition to being used for CH and hypertension and probably a few other things.  I agree with the others about using O2 when you can and reduce chances of getting your heart beat too low.  Best wishes.

Thanks for the messages my friends! :D

My doctors tells me that the arythmia is an alteration of the normal rhythm of the heart beats. When there is a not normal augmentation ok the beats, ther is a “tachycardia”, on the contrary case there is a “bradycardia”. Now my beats are 48/min and  the pressure in 100/50... in these conditions Verpamil is not to be adviced, the cardiologist thinks that, since I’ve never had heart problems, this alteration is due to the high dosage of Verapamil (720 mg).

It  would be a problem for me not to use Verapamil because it is the only mean I have to fight and it works (I’m cortisone-allergic and the other meds don’t work).... I don’t think Imitrex gives me heart problems, but Verapamil, anyway I’ll fallow the advices of the doctors... and this is not easy... I try O2, but sometimes it doesn’t work... I’ve tried many others tryptan but they don’t work!

Charlie, I’m using yr. technique but still now I have no relief... but I’ll go on.

Cathy, darling girl... never bump... I have the helmet in my head! ;D!

Thanks again to all and all the best from Zaira  :'(
