Title: ANSWERS TO Name That Tune (not CH)
Post by Spindrift on Jun 12th, 2003, 2:39pm
Each one is the title of a popular song (although you'd probably want to classify them as "oldies"):

1.  Attention!  (I'm addressing the person directly adjacent to myself whose organs of visual acuity are obscured by fusion-powered gas clouds of celestial origin).

2.  The regular time cycle in which the planet completes one rotation, during which atmospheric perturbations have produced an abundance of ground-targeted hydrogen/oxygen molecules in a fluid state, occupies the present time period.

3.  My cognizance of the topographic contours of the uppermost quadrant of he or she with whom I am engaged in conversation has been part of an ascending developmental cycle.

4.  The birthplace of humorist Will Rogers!  (in which location the movement of gaseous clouds of molecular oxygen-nitrogen compounds across vast tracts of normally unpopulated low herbage is often brisk).

5.  There is a zero probability in the recurrence of the physical manifestation of the human to whom I address my current comments.

Good luck.....

Spin

And here they are:  (some have been guessed)

1.  Hey There (You With the Stars in Your Eyes)
2.  Here's that Rainy Day
3.  I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face
4.  Oklahoma
5.  There Will Never Be Another You

NOW THEN:  I have lots more of these ready to roll.  But given the frustration I've inadvertently (okay, vertently) caused some folks, I'm not sure if I should post them.  What say the group?

Cathy, although I have spent many pleasant weeks in the British Isles over the years, I can't claim to have any special insight into the music knowledge of the inhabitants.  You are correct on #4, incorrect on the others.  My guess is you'll know the titles.

No smokie dopie Pam.  Maybe I should!

To all:  by and large these are old show tunes and "standards", i.e. not rock and roll and not from the last few decades.  If this helps.

Cathi - sorry, kid, not in the ballpark.  But thanks for playing our game!  Don Pardo, tell Cathi what she's won.....

Paul - Don will have to speak to you about the take-home version as well, alas.  But I appreciated the pun on MFV.  You're in the right general era at least.

Sherry - bingo! on #3, alas non-bingo on 2.  You go, girl!

Catlind - it may be dawning somewhere, but not in your answer.  Good try!

Margi - this stuff keeps my mind off the rest of my woes which, thankfully, this morning do not include a searing throb in the eye socket.  But the day is young....

Thanks, all.

Wasn't it "The Most Beutiful Girl in the World?"

Title: Re: Name That Tune (not CH)
Post by Spindrift on Jun 13th, 2003, 1:00pm
Linda H and Donna:  a well-considered guess.  To the best of my recollection that ditty was indeed entitled "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World".  It is NOT, however, the bit of musical doggerel I had in mind.

The work is its own reward.

I can't remember which one is which....   ???

Well done, everyone!  Specifically:

TomM - good guesses.  Wrong, alas.  But you're in the hunt!  (and as dey say down in de islands, Monday soon come, mon)

Suzy - you're doing the right thing.  Enjoy a weekend, I hope, of PFDANs

Grant - that's the attitude!

Donna - fine guesses both.  Incorrect as they were, I like your spirit.

And for you and Mia I've done a bit of research:  Charlie "The Silver Fox" Rich was the man who made famous "The Most Beautiful Girl".  Charlie Pride was, of course, the most famous black country singer in history, and a member of that music's Hall of Fame.

Catlind - just think, I have about 40 more song titles just a'waitin'....

And Jonny, you honor me, friend.  And I thank you for it.

Cathy - hah!  Thanks.  You've saved me the embarrassment of appearing to blow my own horn by posting a reminder that we are scant HOURS away from the solutions....

I'll post them in the morning as soon after 9 EDT as I can shoo the goats out of the bedroom, light a fire in the boiler and see how much of the gruel pot has managed to stay uncongealed overnight.

I hope and pray fervently that y'all will not be too disappointed by the actual answers!

Until then,

Personally I would love to see this as a weekly challenge til you run out of titles hehe.

They are hard, but I love having to exercise my mind with word puzzles like this :)

I vote for more!

hmmm maybe I can keep track of winners and present them with some prizes at the convention!

Okay Cathy - I now know that people whose names begin with the common term for a feline approve of the tune game.  I'll put up a few more tomorrow.  After all, if people don't like it there are always plenty of other threads to read on this great board!

Hey Paul!  almost didn't see you there, your post was on a new page.  My age is 49.  Most of these tunes are from before I was born in fact.  I know some music LOTS older than these however....

As far as your being more modern - nothing to stop you or anyone else from making up your own based on tunes you know!

Paul, yes indeed that's me.  But after being chastized roundly for dragging on my inaugural post on this board with too many acronyms, I'm not even going to TRY that one of yours..... sorry old bean, nothing personal you understand.  (One Word Down, Nine Or So To Wager)

Cathi - the felines have it!  I shall post more puzzlers, perhaps tomorrow.  But they are of the same type, alas, and if you want a kids' version afraid you'll have to create it yourself.....

Until then, thanks,
