Title: Re: Need an answer right away... Post by oringkid on Jun 12th, 2003, 11:30am Dennis has hurt himself numerous times and has taken all the different pain killers. He said strength wise they are probably around the same but said for that kind of pain the percocet would probably be better. Sherry Also, I think the percocet may be less likely to upset the stomach (my opinion) S |

Title: Re: Need an answer right away... Post by Roxy on Jun 12th, 2003, 11:31am Ree, Sorry he's hurting, and I wish I could help on the meds part. I've never taken those two meds for my knee after surgery, they always gave me Lortabs, and they worked great. We called them my 'happy' pills. I'm not sure which is the strongest of the three. Hope he gets some relief, Tracey |

Title: Re: Need an answer right away... Post by brain_cramps on Jun 12th, 2003, 11:35am Hope this helps... Vicodin and Percocet Question: Can you tell me the difference between Vicodin and Percocet? Are they of the same family with Percocet being more powerful? For arthritis pain, how serious is the risk of addiction with a dose of 1 or 1/2 Vicodin per day? Answer: Vicodin is a class 3 narcotic, with hydrocodone. Percocet is a class 2 narcotic with oxycodone, which is a much stronger narcotic derivative. The risk of addiction varies with the dosage (small), with the length of time the drug is used and the personality of the patient. http://www.druginfonet.com/index.php?pageID=faq/faqpcet.htm |

Post by cootie on Jun 12th, 2003, 11:39am Percocette........I was in a horse wreck and got the saddle horn caught up under my rib cage when the horse went down.....then when he got back up on his feet 'he thrust forward'........all I heard wasa a big ZIP noise and it tore all my ribs off the front called 'floating ribs'......when I'd move my arms you could hear loud pops of them moveing all around...I'd try and move them back to heal and gawd was that painful. Doc gave me percocette's to keep active and be able to handle it and PF a while as I healed verses laying around like an animal just hit by a car waiting to die. Could not breathe at all it hurt so bad. They got me thru it and back on my feet ! Vicoden's made me dizzy and sick.....not cool when your hurting......peuking is hard when you have broken bones !!!! Hope he feels better !!!! Pam that was a perky busted up girl back then on percocettes |

Title: Re: Need an answer right away... Post by BlackDog on Jun 12th, 2003, 3:48pm For me it is percocet. It has never helped with CH but made me not care about the pain as much one time last year... Sorry he is in pain. That sucks. Pain sucks. I would take some away if I could. I have a little room left. I am 'wishing' it away him now. Hope it helps. (I like Curtis' suggestion though!) ;D |

Not trying to split hairs here...but Info-net blew this one. Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab, Lorcet) & Oxycodone (Percocet, Oxycontin, Roxacet) come from the same derivative "Thebaine" The only reason all Hydrocodone Rx's are Scheduled 3 is due to the acetaminophen in the tablets. Hydrocodone does not come in a preparation (in the U.S., anyway) without either tylenol or homatropine (Hycodan), while oxycodone comes in many preparations by itself(Percolone, Oxycontin, Oxyir). In actuality...the free-base compound of Hydrocodone is a Scheduled II narcotic in the U.S.. as is the free-base compound of codeine. But to get to the question...the actual ratio of Hydrocodone to Oxycodone is 10 to 9, meaning 9 mgs. of Oxycodone is equal to 10 mgs. of Hydrocodone. Long-winded Jim |

Title: Re: Need an answer right away... Post by katethecelt on Jun 12th, 2003, 10:50pm Hi Ree, I feel for you and Dave. I had minor knee surgery and the pain was horrible. I can't take Lortab or Percocet - had allergic reactions to both. I ended up taking Demerol. For his reaction to the meds, Aveeno makes a great bath soak and ointment. While he probably can't immerse in the tub, he can still use it to take a sponge bath. Sending good vibes to both of you, Kate |

Ree, Check your IM...They're pretty much equal. There is such a small difference, between the two. It would depend on the amount of drug in either type of meds. It also pretty much depends on what your husband feels comfortable with. Hope he's feeling better. Jim |
