Title: Can a jonny get a table dance?
Post by jonny on Jun 11th, 2003, 5:24pm
Ahhhh, I see I got your attention....LMMFYBO!!! ;D

I would like to take this time to thank someone and just figured a few of you would also like to thank her, even if you cant make it to the convention this year for whatever reason you have to admire the amount of time and leg work that was put into this one  as well as the ones before this.

Cat,

Thank you so much for taking on this huge commitment and for getting it so close to where I live....LMAO ;D

Seriously, you have done a great job, I for one give you major props for taking something on that I would never even think of doing. its going to be a great time, I have never had a bad time meeting clusterheads and ive met more than 50 of them.

My hat is (if I wore one)off to you Cat, you ROCK sister!!!!!

...............................jonny

Back to the title....any strip joints there? (DJ told me to ask ;D )

Here, here!  I agree!  I wish I could be there!  But I gotta say, I was very impressed when, soon after the last convention, someone (probably Jonny  ;D) asked where are we having the next one.  A few locales were bandied about and New York was mentioned a coupla times and Cat just came out and volunteered to check it out and do all the doing etc.  At that time, I thought, WOW! I would not even know where to start if someone asked me, muchless volunteer!

Hats off to you Cat!

And hats off to all of you who have undertaken this huge effort on behalf of OUCH and Clusterheads!  I WILL MAKE IT TO ONE OF THESE THINGS DAMNIT, IF I HAVE TO HAVE IT AT MY HOUSE!! (course in that case, you'd have to BYOB and BYOF and BYOGB and DP and the speakers would be my husband and daughter LOL)

Great job!

Sherry

Um Jonny, could you please change the title back to brotha?

*blush* thanks jonny :)

I have to give the credit to the many many people who have helped me out with this.  Linda H, Roxy, Mast, Don, Elaine, Margi, Bonnie, Peppermint...everyone who has contributed prizes for the convention (I can't tell you who they all are cause it will spoil the surprises LOL)

If it weren't for those who had gone before me I would not have been able to do it.  Their work has made mine that much easier :)

I just hope everyone has a GREAT time!!! :)

Cat

Oh yeah, no strip joints anywhere near.  Part of the condition of Ft Drum being located here was a specific clause stating NO strip joints.  You can always take the boat across the river though ;)

Veni, Vidi Vici. And so tough shit for all of you! I don't come here much anymore because of all the crap that's posted here so much lately.  If I thought a non-descript chatroom was worth hanging out at I'd be here all the time. But what I do see is an insulting subjectline being asked to be changed to something not so fucking alienating and Nazi-esque and that request being turned down under some bullshit of DJ being an ultra censor? DJ lets a lot of shit go down and won't change this for you. This is NOT your fucking room, Jonny. And if your point is you don't want black people here, no one gives a shit. Change the name!

You're right, Mast. When the days were coming around and no one was signing up I felt bad for her. I was worried she was going to have to face the first convention where no one would show up. I even considered signing up till I saw others finally did. Cat, you did a good job.
And everything else I said? No changes.

Cat,
GREAT JOB!! Thank You!!I am simply amazed at the
amount of effort and dedication that you have put forth
in putting this convetion together, not to mention the
"BALLS" it takes to tackle a project like this.My hat is off
to you dear lady.
  wishing you PF,
                         BillyJ.

BTW-Oxymoron (pointedly foolish) is a combination of contrary ideas, a phrase seemingly absurd but really significant: e.g."honest politician","proud humility""army Intelligance",roaring silence","DJ's censorship"

also,to those who use slang   nig-ga  and black person have
two entirely differant meenings.

No. Not entirely different meanings. It, like anything else, depends upon context and the speaker. Here they both fall into the same category. Unless you're saying five years ago when slang "nig-ger" meant that when racists said "nig-ger" it didn't mean "nig-ger"

Title: Re: Can a jonny get a table dance?

Jonny,

While I don’t feel offended by your subject line, I can see how others might be offended.  Censorship issues aside, public displays of bigotry are unacceptable anywhere, anytime.

However... (there's always a 'however')  What you typed as a subject line was not bigotry, or racist or anything like it.  That was something that people, not just black people, say all the time to one another in certain circles.  It is used in a purely friendly and jovial manner and cannot be considered to be offensive if you think about it.

The thing that REALLY bothers me though is that some people will say this is perfectly acceptable to say, brother to brother.  Now if you think about it, it’s fucking stupid to say it’s OK for brothers to say this to each other but it’s wrong for white people (or non-blacks) to say this to each other.  I think this is a great example of how the African-American (what a stupid pseudonym, they are Americans) community is having trouble dealing with maintaining a distinct identity yet that identity is strife with negative traits like Ebonics and exclusive slang like ‘brotha’.  It’s frustratingly ironic that maintaining this identity actually perpetuates their impoverished lifestyle in a lot of cases.

If people who are offended by racial division would just stop taking every opportunity to point out the racial lines, the lines might start to disappear.

Aww shit man, this is one of the reasons that I seldom
post.I usualy just lurk,(guess that makes me a target eh
Jonny :)).
When I posted I did not realize that n i g g e r,was going to be filtered into black person.So MAYBE I was
wrong and Jonny was being a racist a ss ho le,But that was not the way that I interperated it.
The differance between the two words(spelling, sound,
and meaning) was explained to me about a month ago
by a close friend, who just happens to have ebony
colored skin.
Peace and PFDANs to all, back to lurking for me,
                 Billy

Title: Re: Can a jonny get a table dance?
Post by Ted on Jun 12th, 2003, 2:54am
Billy. Going "back" to lurking means you have been lurking. Which means you've seen him call anyone not white by a deragotory name. So, if you need racism and non-racism to be spelled out for you by black people because you can't recognize it yourself, then I'm sorry to hear that.
Fubar, go back to the context and speaker part I wrote. It was written when Billy said the nig-ger and nig-gah having different meanings. To your point about it being said by blacks and non-blacks, the point's the same. It's not always a friendly and jovial word, as you claim it to be. Again, read what I said about when "nig-ger" was said instead of "nig-gah" for the same meaning. Does that mean when the racists used it it was jovial and friendly?
And frankly, it's quite incredulous that you are trying to make the point that if people would stop pointing out racism, racism would disappear. Kind of like saying "if people would stop talking about the poor, the poor would be rich."

Well here we go again, I for one don't appreciate that kind of talk Jonny, I stopped posting on this board awhile back because of your remarks. I wanted a post of yours deleted it was left up, and it should not have been.  I believe in free speech but when its hurting others such as the word you love to use, than it should be taken down.

Seems to me if you want to use that kind of talk there are boards I'm sure that can acomadateSP you.

Right now I'm just real mad.  I'm not the fighting type, and I ususally don't bother with and or overlook fighting type of posts, but this I just had enough of, this is a board for support and when in pain, SO, why cause more pain.

Vent over,

Ted,

I wasn't trying to say that we should all stop pointing out racism.  Of course, racism is not to be tolerated.  I'm just saying that it seems like people are a little anxious to raise the racism flag, whether or not there was really any racism involved.  Jonny's subject line is such a case.

As far as 'context' goes... Jesus Christ, you're talking about a post by Jonny!  What more appropriate context is there?

In my many large groups of freinds some of em jokeinly use the word nig-gah as a synonym same as the word ass-hole or dumbass......they call ech other or them selves nig-gah....and NO bad racial remark ever intended......they are careful to pronounce it properly. I have black freinds that ride and they use the slang word nig-gah in that same context "MORE" then we do....I don't lie !!! It's a word like any other ass-hole dumbass or sumone 'different' word used in that reference and context. But yeah it is miss-used by sum and makes the fur stand up with others and "understandable" cuz it can be a touchy subject ! It was intended as a synonym in the title on this thread not racial....I'm not sayin it ta be a suckass either.......so SMILE everyone......I call it how I see it Pam  :)

I was real curious about the semantics of the nig-gah word, so I asked a very close friend of mine.  We have a very kind and sweet woman who works for us, she's been a member of our family for about 20 yrs. now, she also happens to be black.

She said the word takes on different contexts depending on how it's used, and what part of the country you are living in.  It is an offending word to her, especially when used by a white person, but this is rural Texas.  It is a word that, in her group, is used between friends (close friends), and it's not an insult.  If used between people who aren't friends, it is a grave insult.

I had her read this thread, and she was offended by the topic, just as I was.  Her sage advice was........... "if the word is controversial, and COULD be taken as offensive by some people........then don't use the damn word!"

Title: Re: Can a jonny get a table dance?
Post by oringkid on Jun 12th, 2003, 11:54am
I don't care how it is used.  To me it is offensive.  I was taught that it is a VERY derogatory label, and it is one of the few words that I take offense to.

I have many black friends and I let them know that that word is NOT to be used in my house as I find it offensive. My black friends think I am crazy, but there you have it.

I appreciate the subject line being changed.
And thank you Ted.

Let me know if you want me to email you the song.

Gettin a table dance is 'slang' fer praise with some groups. And the first part that is the no-no word is a synonym meaning in a round about way a 'certain individual' .....that's why bold names are used.....it gets yer attention.....it depends on the groups ya hang with. I know my street slang.....at least fer my groups and I got all kinds.....sum words are offensive to others so I am not deny'n that at all so don't get me wrong or think I am being nasty....cuz I'm not . But I think the title of this thread tanslated into.....can a certain individual get some praise. Not can a poor black man get a chick to dance on my table so I can stare at her. It's easy to misinterpret words used in slang. Boldy goin where no one should go interpretor Pam.....smile !
