And here I thought it was the whales and seals.  Silly me.   Bob has a street rod, a 32 I think that he;s restoring.  Won't be as fast as mine, but I think we'll leave your corvette in the dirt and spinning wheels.  AND.......he probably won't take it out when he's finished with it.   It will be a trailor Queen.

LOL.....Nope it's not a hot rod... yet. Got welds on the chassis and rearend all ground down smooth and painted it 2 days ago so I can start hanging the parts on it now. Damned paint costs $210 a gallon, the primer $55 a gallon and the clear coat is $165. I need a second job just to pay for the paint.
Picked up the Mickey Thompson's yesterday. You should see those suckers. 18" wide!  :o The car is gonna look like a sreamroller from the rear.

Cathi, I'm not napping. I'm at work. It's the only time I have to log on here.

Linda, it'll be a driver. and it's a 27 Model T with Model A fenders and a 32 grill. I ain't building no friggin' trailer queen. If you ever see my car on a trailer you can kick me in the #)&^(!~.

If you can call my Caliente a Montego......I can call your Stingray a Corvette.  No difference anyway...

and hey Bob........."working in the coal mines, going dowtown"     whatever it takes.

Post by CathiP on Jun 11th, 2003, 2:29am
Yes, Linda....and I stand corrected.....fact is, I didn't know the difference between a stingray and a pace car...till some of the club took me in a dark alley and forced me to read some facts......

Bob- Gil had the frame of a 32 3-window......we finally sold it......needed the $$$ for living..... you know??

Glad you're awake, Bob.....

Being female, Bob, there is only 1 question I must ask about your machine.......WHAT COLOR????
Isn't that far more important than any of that mechanical stuff?

Title: Re: Hey, BobG
Post by Linda_Howell on Jun 11th, 2003, 2:33am

O.k. Bob.  Ya gotta tell us all because inquiring minds want to know.  Do you live in Las Vegas or work there?

Now get on that car this week-end and finish it.  Pics are a necessity.

Title: Re: Hey, BobG

Title: Re: Hey, BobG

Yes and no.

I live in Las Vegas but work in Boulder City.

Right now I'm at work.

In the morning I'm going to Vegas.

Then tomorrow night I'll be leaving Las Vegas and returning 8 hours later.

Rinse and repeat.

Title: Re: Hey, BobG

Dang! This thread is going to fast.

The car will be refridgerator white. What isn't polished stainless or chrome will be white except the interior which will be gray and the ghost flames will be gray.

The engine is a 350 Chevy crate motor (sorry Linda) 320 HP. But come to think about it.......

A Ford motor in a Ford. That would be unique. Weird, but unique.

Zackery already has an battery powered Jeep. Maybe when he's 5 I'll let him steer the rod.

The other day when I was clear coating the chassis he helped me. Cleared coated my pant leg.

Post by CathiP on Jun 11th, 2003, 2:48am
Didja get ghost flames, Bob?
I'm so glad you have Zackery to help .....aren't you?

BTW- all joking aside, that sounds unique- and very nice!
Gil would kill for some ghost flames.....I'm afraid I drew the line at 6k on the paint job......cheap-o me.....

That's it.  I'm outta here.

" Chevy motor in a FORD????????   you gotta be kidding?

When that Chevy engine craps on ya.....don't forget I said,      "Told ya so"

           I'm getting a HA     Linda

Oh, and Bob....I live in Vegas, too.....2-3 times per year, for maybe 3 nights each time.....tonight, I'm here, visiting Oregon....I visit here ohhh, probably about 320 nights out of the year......but I LIVE in Vegas!! ;)

Linda, be PF

....now I'm going to sleep- you Vegas people don't know the difference between day & night!

G'night Bob.....

The car will have ghost flames but not yet. Haven't even started preping the body. Have to get the chassis a roller first.

6 grand for paint? Damn you are a great wife.

Mine will be painted in my garage with all the dust, dirt and bugs. Will have to do it when the neighbors aren't home. I'm afraid someone will call the EPA and I'll get arrested. The chassis was painted in the front yard hanging from limbs of 2 trees.

Title: Re: Hey, BobG
Post by CathiP on Jun 11th, 2003, 3:03am
Hey, I think that's awesome!! Maybe you can teach Gil how to do the flames.......
As for the neighbors......just do your painting the night they barbecue- the charcoal fumes will knock out the paint fumes any day.....if that doesn't work, tell them Isaid itwas okay- I'm far enough away that they'll never catch me!

Looking forward to pics.......and, will you have any leftover parts? Scary thought, huh?
Gnight, Bob!
Cathi

Post by BobG on Jun 11th, 2003, 3:14am
Teach him how to do flames? Hell, I don't even know how............yet.............but I'm gonna learn no matter how many time I have to paint, sand it off, repaint, sand it off, repaint............

BBQ sound like a great cover. Liver and broccoli. That'll clear the neighborhood of those clear air freaky tree-huggers.

Well, Cat.....we do...ummmm 3 nights out of the year...the rest of the time we live in...in descending order, Portland, Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Arizona, and various & sundry other locales....as it suits our fancy and wallet.
The Crescent City thing is a cruise-in- we do it every year.....except last ???........something I regret, since right before she left, Linda Howell & I discovered that we had both been trekking to this event for years!
So, Cat, if you can make it there for Columbus Weekend.....I think there is gonna be a mini-gathering!

  We should take a poll.

       FORD
       CHEVY
          OR
      MOPAR?

Then we could pick our friends accordingly.  Tom and Bob you're in.

Hey BobG!  My husband, (who is one hell of a great body and paint man) said for enough Dr. Peppers and dinner and stuff, he will come up and shoot the car for ya.  (that is shooting with a paint gun lol)

He said, where are you buying your paint??  $165 for clear is WAY high.  He could get it for you cheaper by ordering it from his old supplier in VA.

Sounds like it's gonna look very classy!

more importantly does it have a music... ::)

Cathy

Title: Re: Hey, BobG
Post by BobG on Jun 12th, 2003, 2:59am
Sherry, the prep work is the hardest and dirtiest but if it’s done wrong the finish looks like hell.

The painting is the easiest part. If it comes out nice the painter says “Look at the great job I did. Ain’t I great!” If the paint job is trash the painter blames the prep lady.

Cathy, no it does not have music. You couldn’t hear it if it did. It’s a roadster. It has no radio or CD changer, no heater, no air conditioner, no top and no side or back windows, Also does not have an electric/heated seat, it has no back seat, it has no spare tire because the trunk is full of fuel cell, it does not have cruise control.

What it does have is 320 horse power under your right foot feeding through a high-stall converter to a posi rear end. With glass packs it’ll be loud.  The most important is it will go like hell.

Linda,
Real hot rods have Ford bodies and are powered by Chebby motors. Rods with Ford flatties are ok but barely so. Ford flat motors are only good for 2 things, boiling water and boat anchors.

Chevy motors………..Corvettes are still alive. Cobras died a long time ago and Mustangs are so pitiful that a Caddy 4-door luxo-cruiser will outrun them.

Ford………used to make the best looking cars. "used to"  is the key word. Nobody makes a decent looking car now a days. They all look like the same rice grinders. Please take me back to the 50's and 60's.

Mopar? Isn’t that the company that is sometimes called Chrysler? The one that is pulling Marseeedes Benz down to it’s level? The one that builds cars(?) that come with a 70,000 mile guarantee the transmission will fall out. The warranty says  “Yeah, we know the transmission will fall out at 70,000 miles but tough shit. Sue us.” The one that makes the goofy lookin’, butt-ugly, wanna-be-a-cool-hot rod called a viper? And the men-that-wanna-be-lesbians choice of trash rides, the PT Cruiser? Never heard of them.

I was truly dissapointed when Daimler-Benz merged with Chrysler to become DaimlerChrysler. Thier product has deteriorated but I still believe they are one of the finest and safest car built today. I miss my 300SD. Nothing like cruisng @ 80-85 in 4 door battleship built by MB!

If your a car guy you might be saying "A diesel going that fast?" Well, I tweaked the govenor to give me 6000+ RPM's, modified the turbo to give me full boost, and completely over hauled the engine. She would spin to about 6200 RPM's and give me about 125 MPH on a long straight. I did some serious MB Club racing for a few years but tore up a few trannies and decided to quit.

Ah, cars. Some people look at them a mode of tranportation and other see a work of art.
