Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by oringkid on Jun 10th, 2003, 6:28pm My worst job was also my first. Worked at Olan Mills Portrait Studio. Soliciting over the phone....I am NO salesperson! I hated bothering people, and getting the phone hung up in my ear. If they said no thanks I said Ok, you have a nice evening! We were given less than minimum wage plus commission. I never, ever sold even one package. I signed 2 people up but they never showed. I quit, right before they were going to fire me.....and joined the Navy! Sherry |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by badfly on Jun 10th, 2003, 7:16pm I worked as a security gaurd for a mayor under death threats from organised crime. I had to stand outside his home in the middle of winter every night for 13 hours straight. It was freezing cold and rained almost constantly. Nothing ever happened, no one ever came. By the time I quit I knew the street perfectly. 5:30 paper delivery man, 5:40 old man jogging, 5:45 first bus to town, 6:15 neighbor walks his dog etc etc. I thaught I was having my own kind of grounhog day. I quit after 2 months telling them they would have to triple my salary before I would even consider staying. |

At least when you're corn detasseling you have the height of the row of corn to give you some bathroom 'privacy' and of course the velvet leaves to wipe (don't wipe too hard they stain) but in the bean field you got nothin! :) Cat |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by Frank on Jun 10th, 2003, 7:45pm When I was 17 y-o I worked as a cook's helper and dishwasher at a Ramada Inn Restaurant. We used to drop your fillet mignons on the floor while putting them on the grill or turning them over. I bet you never noticed... steak still tastes the same scooped up from the floor, or not. One time I was slicing mushrooms and cut off the end of my finger. I looked all through the bowl of mushrooms for the end of my finger... could not find it... I finally said fuck it. Saute'd them anyway. Bet you didn't notice that either. Then I got fired. Seems a co-worker threatened me with a kitchen knife one day, so I grabbed his arm and put it in the french fryer oil (the only pain I know that is worse than CH pain). |

Those costumes are about 100 degrees inside! And I was goofing around with the kids and I layed down on the skeetball machine and my head rolled around backwards and all the little kids freaked out! Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by Elaine on Jun 10th, 2003, 8:01pm The worst Job I had was when I was a animal control officer. I was the only female there and the men gave me shit, cause their wifes gave them shit LOL. I wanted to put the owners to sleep not the poor animals. I cried every payday, not cause my check sucked but cause every payday was kill day. I hated putting animals to sleep. On top of that my house was full of animals. I had a big cage in my livingroom with about 14 birds, and at one time I had about 20 cats and dogs. I would take a couple of animals a week home and adopted them out. Buddy woke up one night said honey you got to quiet this job we have five dogs sleeping with us LOL! I even took posiums and let them go in the woods behind me. The day finally came when I was told to put starter fluid in a bucket and put some new born pups in it and put the lid on. They told me the pups would go to sleep peacefully. NOT!!! I got tired of the abuse the animals took from workers there, so the last day of my job. I took chanel 5 News crew with me ! Needless to say I was fired !!! ??? 8) |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by Callico_Kid on Jun 11th, 2003, 1:29am During the Carter years I lost my job hanging drywall cause construction dried up and couldn't find anything except working in the bleach house of a cotton mill. Eight hours a night I sat in a chair and watched one strand of cloth being pulled from the Kier deck and into the dryer. The only time I had any activity was if the cloth had a tear in it. I then stopped the machine and pulled the cloth down to sew it together. That was when I first was diagnosed with clusters, and the Dr put me on some really strong Narcs. I still hurt so badly I could hardly stand it, but was so stoned I had tohave another worker read my time card to be sure I punched in on the right one. Never again. jc |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by BobG on Jun 11th, 2003, 2:08am Shit burning detail! You probably have to be a Vietnam veteran to understand this. The latrines had 10 to 15 "holes" each with a cut-down 55 gallon drum under it to collect the you-know-what. Maggots got really fat in there and multiplied like rabbits. Thousands of them in each barrel. Each day a detail was assigned to burn the drum's contents. You had to pull the drums from under each hole, pour diesel fuel in, stir it with a big stick then light it on fire. Then stand around while the smoke and fumes engulfed your clothes, mouth, lungs and eyes. You could still smell and taste it 2 days later. The maggots didn't like it either. Crispy little critters they were. To this day I hate the smell of diesel fuel…. |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by fubar on Jun 11th, 2003, 10:57am Worst job ever? When I first arrived in Silly Con Valley, thinking I was going to get a programmer job (ha!) I ended up working at a place called "Fun Enterprises". Yes, that's not a typo. Fun Enterprises was in the business of setting up events with circus tents and booths and games... you get the idea. Normally, you set these up on grass, but one time we had to set up 4 huge tents (100ft by 40ft) at FMC. It was for a rollout ceremony of some amphibious assault vehicle and Alexander Haig was the main guest. Anyway, these tents require stakes to be pounded into the ground every 10 feet. These stakes weigh 40 lb each and are about 3 feet tall. It takes 2 guys about 5 minutes to pound one into the grass. Well, at FMC, we had to put these tents up on asphalt. By the time we were 1/2 finished, every crew member had bloody hands with massive blisters from the sledge hammers. The owner of the business had to go out and buy a jack hammer to sink the rest of the stakes, but nobody could even hold it because of our ripped up hands. It was actually funny watching this slave driver sink the stakes on his own. Before that, I had a job cleaning out apartments getting them ready for the next tenent. GROSS. People are sick, sick, sick. I could not believe the crap they would leave behind. -Fu |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by Roxy on Jun 11th, 2003, 1:14pm What's bad about my worst jobs, is the fact that they were self-inflicted. It was one of those....."well, someone has to do it"..... scenarios. The first was having to wade knee deep into a tank (large pond) to pull a dead cow out. All you could see was the bloated side of her, and she had been there about 4 days. Trying to work up my nerve to reach under the water and grab her neck to loop the chair around....it 'bout killed me. Water does nasty things to dead tissue. The second was finding a momma cow who had tried to calve, and hadn't quite succeeded. The calf was half out of her, and the coyotes had chewed half of the calves face off. Trying to pen her was fun, my horse didn't like the smell (calf had been hanging there for a few days), so everytime we got downwind of her, he would start bucking. When we went to pull the calf, found out that it was twins, and so we pulled stuff out of her for hours......all came out in pieces and parts. Nasty, nasty job, plus she was still squeezing to deliver while we did it. My hand and arm were the smallest.......so guess who got to do the fun work. |

Title: Re: Another jonny Hmmmm!! Post by Brian_Y on Jun 12th, 2003, 12:04pm The worst job I ever had was, oddly enough, the last one I had before where I am right now. When I interviewed for it (this was an IT Project Manager position for a medium sized company) I was thrilled. I was going to have 8 people reporting to me, I reported to the CIO, I was going to be paid like I like, et al. But once I am in (not unlike, say, marriage), the REAL personalities begin to emerge. The CIO was a bitch from hell. She would call me at ALL hours of the night wanting to know if X server was up or if Y project was completed (she knew about as much about technology as Ma and Pa Kettle)...She'd make me tell developers they had one afternoon to write code which in reality-world would take weeks. Failure to have these projects completed was met with swift and resounding punishment. She forced me to fire several KEY developers because she did not like them. And the CEO was the worst of all. Jehovah's Witness. Birthday parties, signs of celebrating Christmas, Valentine's Day, or, God FORBID, Halloween, were met with swift and resounding punishment. I saw this guy once take a bullhorn and scream at a loan processor (some ass clown making 18K a year) in their ear because they had a Santa Claus decoration up. Yeah, they were paying me veeerrrryyyy well, but I did everything possible in my power to get out of there. Now I am here. Where it is peaceful. O, and in case no one here believes in Karma: That nasty company? Bilked an investment sister company out of millions to fund their drying up mortgage business. CEO splits to form a new company. MY boss? Made the new CFO. The FBI, SEC (as this was a publicly traded company), our state's attorney general's office are ALL investigating. They said prison time is on the horizon for all these not a very nice persons I described in this post. Not to mention the fact once they are done with the civil suits from screwed investors, they won't be able to buy a pissant a sandwich. I can't stop smiling...... |
