Title: GOOD NEWS!!!! Post by 9erfan on Jun 10th, 2003, 11:07am OK, I'm going to try to stay calm and not use too many exclamation points.....but I have some news to share with my family.... OK, SCREW IT!! IT'S MY NEWS AND I'LL BE AS EXCITED AS I WANT AND USE AS MANY EXCLAMATION POINTS AS I WANT!!!! ;D ;D ;D So, after 2 years of hoping & praying & working TEMP with NO benefits, and numerous interviews, and re-interviews, and REJECTIONS....I have FINALLY been offered a PERMANENT job WITH BENEFITS!!! WOOHOO!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D And to top it off, it's a REALLY GOOD COMPANY!! They've been in business for 13 years and they've never had a layoff, which is unheard of here in the Silicon Valley. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I don't know if I can put into words how much of a source of stress this has been for me over the past 2 years. Just a little history....in April 2001, I was laid off from a sales job at a software company. At the time, it was a blessing in disguise because the woman who I was working for was a COMPLETE WITCH who had no sympathy for my h/a's and use to say "you know you really need to do something about those h/a's". I didn't work for 9 weeks and then got a temp job in June, 2001. It was suppose to be a 6 week assignment and turned into 19 months. And every qtr they would say, I think we'll be able to hire you permanent NEXT quarter. After 19 months, they had to let me go because their policy was not to have temps longer than 18 months. So that was in January of this year. I collected unemployment for a month (first time in my life) and then started the temp job that I'm at now in February. I interviewed for 7 different companies while I was unemployed and kept getting turned down which was so weird for me. Back in the 80's & 90's I got EVERY job I interviewed for so this was something new. But I'm 37 years old and feeling WAY too old to keep doing this temp stuff and not having ANY benefits! I mean, geez, I haven't been to the Dr in almost 2 years! I haven't had a paid day off in OVER 2 years! I know that I am very lucky that at least I have been working for most of the last 2 years. Trust me, I thank God for that every day because there are so many people (especially here in the Bay Area) who have not found ANY jobs since getting laid off. But it has just been SO stressful not being able to go to the DR or not getting paid every time I was out with the damn head! So do you think they will have a problem at my new job if I take the first month off to catch up with all my Dr's appts??? ;D I've got to go to the eye dr, the dentist, the primary dr for my allergies, i've got to find a new ob/gyn, and of course there's the little matter of finding a new Neurologist! I'm finally going to be able to get off of all this over the counter crap that I've been taking for the past couple years!! YAY!!! First order of business....verap, lithium, and of course OXYGEN!!! ;D Ok, that's my news! Had to share it first with this family because you've probably gotten sick of me saying "I don't have insurance...." in all of my posts! NO MORE!! Thanks to those who knew about my interview last week and gave me support...(you know who you are)...I didn't really want to advertise it because I've had so many disappointments! Sorry to drag on for so long but I know you guys understand my excitement! Off to do some more HAPPY DANCIN!! Virginia |

After finishing a contract (database analyst) in April 2001, I had 8 months off, followed by a 16-month contract 400 miles from home for 1/2 the rate I had usually worked for. I had an interview last Friday, and for the first time in years, I was asked for references from my last 5 contracts. In 4 of these 5 contracts, my immediate superior was a contractor also. All 4 seem to have fallen off the face of the earth. Contractors that had spent up to 15yrs at the same job have been out of work (for 2 yrs) or have left town (or the country). Its great to hear your news. Maybe it is a sign of things to come in the IT industry. I really hope so. So many people in our industry has had a REALLY rough stretch. Good Luck!!!!! My husband works in the IT industry and he was unemployed for the last 6 months and just got a job starting in two weeks. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come for those who have been waiting. Hopefully the economy is starting to pick up but I dobt it. |
