Title: Medical Term?
Post by Mark C on Jun 9th, 2003, 3:34am
Most every other ailment I know has a "medical term" for it's official name, something latin usually. So far I have only seen the term "clusterheadaches" to define our ailment. (Except here  ;))  Question, is there an "official" name for CH?
Hmmmmmmmmm.

TIA,
Mark

Tough question Mark. But just off the top of my head I've seen or heard these:

The most common "Medical" term is migrainous neuralgia.

also: In order of my favorites......... ;D
erythroprosopalgia of the head
sphenopalatineneuralgia
hemicrania periodica neuralgiforms
ciliary neuralgia
histaminic cephalalgia
petrosal neuralgia
vidian neuralgia
sluder's neuralgia
horton's headache

#1 favorite "One of those?"

In my house it's like this when I wake in the middle of the night........

Wife "What's wrong?"
Me "I got a headache."
Wife "One of those?"
Me "Yep"

Now aren't you glad you asked?  ::)

When I had to switch docs, I asked the potential new doc if he was familiar with cluster headaches..his response.."ah yes..those nasty lil f*ckers" I guess that was his professional name for em!! But with that answer, I knew he was the doc for me!

According to the IHS... The category of headaches that clusters belong to is Trigeminal-Autonomic Cephalgias, but they use Cluster Headaches as the "official" name of our sub-category.  Most all other names for this affliction are previously used, outdated terms.
