Relax...say this out loud "I will surive. This will end." You must not give in.
The HA, the cycle, and the pain always ends and we always survive.
Be tough and do not let the best win! ;D

Mccarke,
I can't seem to get the right plugin to view your file so you will have to let me know what it is. Most of us have been where you are now. Do you have a supporter. If so this site can help them too. Are you running out of Imitex? If so then check the imitex tip to the left. If you are having problems with the meds you can try many no-med treatments. I aways sleep in an incline or recliner when in a cycle. this seems to help stop most of the wake up CH's. Here is a link with lots of treatments you can try.

http://www.clusterheadaches.org/resources/non_script_treat.htm

Hope you have PFDAN very soon.

Hi Kevin,

Boy, I've sure heard THAT before....good news though - we have an endless supply of rope here, ok?

I'm so sorry to hear that you're getting hit so hard - you sound like maybe you're at the peak of your cycle?  Sleep deprived? Getting hit a million times a day?  Yep - we've been there in my house.  My hubby gets to the point you're at right now with each and every cycle.

There ARE some things you can try to help you through to see the light at the end of your tunnel.  Dramamine before bed will help you get to sleep and STAY asleep.  Ice on the back of your neck at the onset of an attack - keeps you calm, dulls the pain a LITTLE (frozen peas/corn works just as well in a pinch).  Strenuous exercise at onset of attack can oxygenate you enough to abort an attack.  (Better yet, get yourself a prescription for oxygen.)

Now....if you are indeed feeling serious about suicide - call 911, Kevin!  Cluster headaches are not fatal unless you allow them to be.  Don't let the Beast win!  At the VERY least, call your neuro and tell him how you're feeling.  DEMAND that he do something for you - be it an oxygen prescription, verap/lithium combo, prednisone burst.

And, finally - know that you're not alone with this.  There is someone hanging around here 24/7 (because of all the time zones we come from).  Always someone here who knows your pain and wants to help you get through it.

Keep us posted, Kevin - stay with us, please?
Hugs

Kevin

ya know, Kev

I could have wrote that the only difference between you and I is that im chronic and the med they discontinued on me was Indomethacin supps. I to got CH at 14 and am now 40 and finally found an abortive that worked and the fucking bastards stopped making it, FUCKERS!!!!!

Dude, I just kept pushing on till I found something else that worked. Did I mention that I had no meds the first 14 years?.....All the non-med tricks these people are telling you about is how I survived those years.

If I can do that as chronic you can do it better episodic.

Been there, said that, didn't do it.

Hit the beast with another shot of imitrex. Stick your face in front of an air conditioner and blast it.

How long are your attacks. Look at the clock at the onset and set the end time as a goal to reach. If it goes past normal attack time, keep adding on 5 more minutes until it's gone.  It will be gone bud. It will be gone.

Kevin, Just keep saying to yourself "this will NOT kill me", and it won't unless YOU let it.  I'm chronic Kevin, and haven't ever had a pain free day untill just recently.
With some help from some of the very best people in the world here, i actually got 3 pain free days last week.
So what i'm saying is, Don't let the beast get you man, kick his ass and find that something that works for you.  You sound a lot like me, i've been at that point several times, i've actually had the gun at my temple ready to squeeze the trigger, but i would always wait for a minuet more, and guess what, the pain would always subside, then go completely away!

Kevin, believe me when i tell you, WE CARE FOR AND ABOUT YOU, AND WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH. So please, let us know how you are right now, and give us more info about you.  You would be surprised what we can do for you!!!!

Brothers in pain,

Mikey,  ;D

Hang tough Mccarke.

Sounds like you were on the Sancert for at least a few years - LOTS has been going on in that time . New findings, new combos and lots of new ideas.

This is when we could use your help, too. All you have to do is deal with it and get through it. Whethere you find frozen carrots work better than frozen brocoli :) or find a neuro with a novel approach  :D, we would like to know - we need to know.

At the very least we need to know that we are stronger than the beast. It WILL End.

I'm just down the road in San Antonio. MY cell is 210-710-2838 and it is on for you 24/7. Call me.

Check your email.

Give this little technique a try. It worked great for me and some others.

Dr. Wright's Circulatory Technique

This is not transcendental meditation, imagery, relaxation, or anything psychic. It's entirely physical and takes a lot of work and concentration. Give this method a good workout. It’s not a miracle, but it’s been helpful to many.

When I was diagnosed, my neurologist said to treat this as a vascular problem. I was told to concentrate on “redirecting” blood circulation in order to retard flow to the head.  This is done by trying to “send” blood into the arms and hands or other extremities. When properly done, your hands will become warm and redder with increased circulation. I also found it easier to concentrate on one hand.

This relieves just slightly, the pressure on the affected vessel, which indirectly causes our pain. We all have this ability but it can be exhausting. I was often able shorten my attacks from about half an hour to no more than a few minutes. Sometimes, when awake, I could entirely abort the attack IF I KEPT AT IT. Often, I would suffer only minor discomfort instead of excruciating pain. Do not stop just because your hands are warm or redder. Keep this up until you are sure it's subsided.  If you let up or lose concentration, it’s very hard to restart this process.  It may take some time but when this works, the relief is almost immediate.

I learned this from the doctor in a few minutes. He simply told me to try to keep blood away from the head. He thought it easiest to concentrate on the arms and hands but any place that works for you is fine. He said to think of it as "filling your hands" with redirected blood.  It’s important to keep at it THROUGH the pain. This will be difficult, but it’s the only way this technique will work. Don’t let up until you are sure the attack has ended.

This will not always work, but I think it will always have at least some effect on the severity and duration of the attacks. It can be useful between medications or while waiting for some other drug to take effect. All it takes is a little practice. It was fairly easy to learn and what I'm writing here is more than I got from the doctor, as I've drawn from my own experience.

When awakened in horrible pain, it’s very hard to focus, but I think it’s always worth a try. This costs nothing but hard work, is harmless, non-invasive, and it gives us a fighting chance.

I wish you the best of luck - Charlie Strand

I've had CH for 14 years and now I am CHRONIC and have been for over 3 years with 3 - 6 tortures a day. Has anyone else taken 48 mg of Imitrex in a 20 hour period before like I have ? HUH ? I'm talking 8 shots !! I've felt like my time is up a few times ... but then I figure the devil would win. Who are you gonna let win ?  ??? Don't wuss out !
