Title: So...What are you gonna do with the Cash.
Post by Hound_Dogg on Jun 4th, 2003, 8:30am
Yesterday, G.W. Bush, with a stroke of his pen, upped the Child Credit to $1,000.00. Giving 25 million families a soon to be mailed $400.00 check. Only, families with an annual income of between $10,000 to just under $27,000 were left out of the bill. ??? I guess they fiqure they're used to doing without, so why give them any hope.

To be fair...the Dems also had their hands in this bill. So it goes both ways.

I just had to rant about this...it doesn't seem fair. I know this is the wage range of a lot of G.I.'s who are just getting back home.

I think I should give it back to the government to purchase a new toilet seat for Air Force One.

Actually, what it does, is disqualify alot of military folks that were deployed for Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.  Because you are in a tax exempt situation when deployed, your income shows up as considerably less than it actually is.

Do you know if it will be based on taxable income or earned income?

If it's taxable income, anyone who deployed will be out of luck.

Cat,

It's based on actual earned income for 2002. You had to qualify for the Child Credit on your 2002 income tax. They upped it to $1000.00. $600.00 was already given in the original 2002 return, so they are giving the remaining $400.00 to those that were able to take the credit. With the exception of anyone whose earnings were considered Minimum Wage earnings ($10,000 to $26, 762).

Lemme tell you why this is bullshit:

My wife's sister is a piece of white trash shite.  She is on welfare and food stamps and blah blah blah.  She has squeezed out 5 chirens.  She has openly said that she does not need to get a job when Washington is paying her just fine...  She is gonna get $2000.

Is she gonna put that money in a ROTH or invest in Microsoft or, perhaps, go conservative and do a money market fund?

No.

She is gonna have a big shrimp dinner, go to Wal Mart and buy some clothes, and her redneck husband will spend the rest in goddamn liquor.

Trickle down economics does not work.  Pont being, yeah, these are the people who "need" it, and since they will gather the bulk of this $400 gift, what will theydo to help out the economy?

This is a red herring to get people to vote for Dubya's sorry ass again.  The wealthy are the only TRUE benificiaries of this tax cut.

My rant is over.

Try the veal!!!

Ahhh politics. What a great thread to start. My rant, no offense intended to ANYONE.

What about the divorced dad who pays out 12k in child support and cannot claim his child due to placement? Not to mention this same "dad" who pays out 35k in taxes to support the rich and poor at the same time. This is the guy who gets screwed for doing something with his life, being male in a failed marrage AND being "middle class" to boot.

Hell, when all is said and done, taking home 39% of my salery should make me happy right?

Democrats, Republicans........who gives a damn. They all screw the middle guy.

Having said that, at least I am not in a cycle right now. Not to mention HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY?

Could be a heluvalot worse.

;D Don't worry mon, be happy  ;D

I'm not a political person at all, but why can't they take that money and put it towards education or homeless shelters, or something worthy, other than awarding people for having more children.

I'd gladly give my $400 to give to something worthy, I would probably spend it on booze anyway (just kidding   ;D)

Screw the poor people. Give them 400 bucks and they'll do something stupid with it. Like buy food, clothes, the light bill and pay their share of the reduced lunch meals for their school kids. And have enough left over to rent a $3 video once a month. Those people are living way to high on the hog for their own good.

I want my (and your) $400. Putting gas in the Excursion ain't cheap ya know. And you all know the price of bottled water.

And with inflation and greed, buying a Congressman is outa sight.

It's bullshit and we all know it. Even the $400 is almost non-existant, too, and millions of children got cut off. Nothing like the current junta to keep us on an even keel.

Bush belongs to the crowd that always plows headlong into the future by "getting back" to our past.

I think you are missing the point.  It is a TAX cut and a TAX rebate.  If you do not pay taxes, as unfortunately I don't, there is nothing to cut or rebate.  This is not a give away.  It is giving back some of the money the Federal government is taking away from those of us who are able to work and pay taxes.  Could I use the $400?  But of course, but I am not one to have my hand out to the government for a freebie.  There was a time I paid out a lot of taxes, and one day again if I am able to get a handle on these CHs, I will again be able to put in a full week of work and get back into the tax-PAYING bracket again.  Till then, I hope all those who are over paying taxes enjoy the break they have finally gotten.

BTW, like GW or not, he is using a Democrat's tax policy to beat them.  Go back and take a look at JFK's fiscal policy and look at what happened when he cut taxes.

I agree it sucks that some people won't get it and they should!

But... when the checks arrive (I'm a single father of 2 boys)... I will be depositing mine.  I have enough medical bills because of these frigging clusters that I can use every cent I can get!!!

This isn't exact but with this thing, if your income is roughly between $10,000 and $26,000 or so, you see zero from this gift to those who need it the least. When asked if these so-called tax cuts are needed, a sizeable majority on the right and left say they they don't think it's a good idea.

Naturally, the people we didn't elect have no interest in what the people want.

Well, it looks like the power of the Cluster sufferers have again saved the day. They are now offering it to low-income families....

Interestingly enough, no matter what you do politically you are bound to piss alot of people off. Until the last few years I had no idea how bad the "middle class" gets raped politically. We were a low income family for quite some time, and our quality of life was better in many ways then. Now that we have hit that forsaken threshold of income that separates the "middle" from high and low income tax brackets, I find it pretty amazing as to how disparate life can really be. Yeah, we make more a year, and have a few nice things to show for it, but it is a lot more difficult to reside in this bracket than others.
Lets face it, If you have "wealth" its is alot easier to get your money to work for you and make a profit. If you are "poor" you do always find yourself needing or wanting more cash to "improve" your financial condition. but when you are in the middle the pressure to either move up or the fear of moving back down is uncanny. You actually get punished financially for things like having kids, getting married, and having a decent paying job which Ironically is the goal in the first place. So few aspects of life are targeted towards the upper and lower "classes" and almost all are directed at getting the attention or finances of those in the middle.
Finally.....No its not right, trickle down economics does not work, and far too many of those in need are left out or forgotten totally......what am I going to do with the check? I'm going to be glad I even got the damn thing and buy a butt plug to try and prevent the next government financial screwing. either that or invest in a lifetime supply of astroglide.

If I were to count my income alone, I would not qualify. so I guess getting married and having kids draws me a flag for excessive celebration.

I only make enough to pay taxes. Not enough to get the refund. But then again, my demographic group hardly votes and we know the gov't shouldn't help people unless they are in a demographic group that votes to keep the $100,000 p/year politicians getting their paychecks. Oh yeah. If you're in their income bracket you get a tax refund. Of course at the expense of those needing food, education, healthcare, little things like that. Oh yeah. Did you know your taxes pay for THEIR food, kids education, healthcare? I guess that's only communism when it goes to the poor. Not the wealthy.

It was a great year for me. They begged me not to file. I even saved the stamp.

You have to hand it to George too--the best 19th Century President in my lifetime.
