Title: Laying down Post by dellp on Jun 3rd, 2003, 10:21am I have to ask this question: Can anybody actually lay down while being hit? If I assume the position in the presence of a shadow it only takes 10-15 seconds to SEVERLY intensify. After a hit, if I lay down too soon, it comes back. I can hardly THINK about laying down without things getting worse. Is this just my version of clusters or what? |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by pimmony on Jun 3rd, 2003, 10:36am I cannot lay down with them and I wondered if this was to do with the blood to the head thing. Also find keeping still pretty hard. |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by catlind on Jun 3rd, 2003, 10:55am Laying down is out of the question. It only intensifies the pain, if that's possible. I too sleep in the recliner when at the peak of my cycle. Cat |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by 9erfan on Jun 3rd, 2003, 11:03am Laying down not an option! I've actually had nurses in the ER yell at me to lie down! I thought my mom was going to haul off and hit the woman! ;D |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by echo on Jun 3rd, 2003, 11:47am Laying down is not an option. Unless I nearly OD on abortives and passout. (usually wanting to never wake up at that point, it's a fine line between passing out and damn near dead). |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by Bob P on Jun 3rd, 2003, 12:05pm This is one of the noted differences between clusterheads and meegrainers. Meegrainers want to lie down and be still. Clusterheads need to run from the pain. For a true clusterhead, laying down during an attack is not an option. |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by oringkid on Jun 3rd, 2003, 2:24pm Well, I can't "go lay down" when I get hit, but if I get hit while I am already in bed, sometimes I will stay there, BUT I CANNOT lay still. I thrash my head back and forth back and forth as hard and fast as I can. The worse the pain, the harder I thrash. (my husband actually gets used to this pretty quickly during a cycle!) For some reason, this helps me once the pain is gone, to be able to go back to sleep. If I get up and pace or drink coffee or get my ice packs or whatever, I have a harder time going back to sleep and seems there is more chance of getting another one in the same night. At peak, it is more likely I will get more than one a night anyway. And sometimes I can't stay in the bed. But a day time hit? No, I definitely don't go lay down. Sherry |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by stuey on Jun 3rd, 2003, 3:26pm I cannot lie down during an attack, but I sometimes do sit on the edge of my bed rocking back and forth holding my head hoping the medication will kick in. I pace, but don't run, just for the imitrex. I think it's just how i deal with my own attacks. Lying down though is impossible for me. |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by kim on Jun 3rd, 2003, 4:03pm During an attack my instincts are movement. Being still is a task. I've had clusters for a long time. I have been hit in public places.......and have forced myself to remain still. It is difficult. It is the opposite of what your instincts are telling you to do. But I have done it. It is possible to be still while having an attack. I've had so many throughout my life that i had to bite the bullet. Is is possible? Yes. Is it what ya wanna do during ch? No. If a person has cluster headaches, they will eventually become aware of what it is they have. It's just too intense of an illness to remain forever a mystery to the sufferer. I've said it b4. When I was 13 years old the school nurse put me on the cot, dimmed the lights and put a blanket on me. I laid there. Believe it. It happened. The tornado was blowin, but I was small, and the world was big........it took a long time for my voice to be heard --------I was about 23 when ONE doc was intrigued enough to take notice of the difference.......... Laying down during an attack is a struggle and does not come naturally. One must force themselves to do this. That is the differential. IMHO. :) |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by kissmyglass on Jun 3rd, 2003, 4:12pm Nope can't lay down. Before I knew what I had, I told the ENT doc that the attacks start when I lay down (I thought I had a punctured sinus or something from the oral surgery, & when I layed down it was leaking into my head). I later realized that I layed down at the same time each night. I now have about 300 pillows that keep me propped up. I agree with everyone else...Laying down is not an option for a Clusterhead. Title: Re: Laying down Post by dolmance31 on Jun 3rd, 2003, 7:54pm i too cannot lay down. i awoke with a level 10 last night...i dashed to the er, and the doc MADE me lay down and turn off the lights. what a dick. then he gave me 2 huge shots of dilaudid...sweet relief. i have even smoked crack to stave off the clusters...it worked twice, now it makes them worse. only strong narcotics can help my headaches. i avoid taking anything until i get a level 7 and above. stadol works great, and i have never gotten addicted. :-X |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by Marc on Jun 3rd, 2003, 8:32pm I tend to pace first, then rock. It's just not possible for me to lay down during a CH. When I wake up in the middle of the night with one, I'm out of bed like a shotgun. Marc |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by stuey on Jun 4th, 2003, 1:59pm I have had migraines as well and cannot tolerate noise during one of them. I also hate noise during a CH. That noise exists is hard to fathom. That seems to be just before the most difficult part of the attack cause once the most severe part of the CH is going I am lost in the pain and don't seem to notice anything else. |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by Callico_Kid on Jun 4th, 2003, 11:01pm Roxy, Wish I could teach you how to know when they end. Mine just happen to be quite regular at 9, 11,and then again at about 1:30 in the morning. I am usually ok then until about 9 am, so I can generally get to bed about 2:30 or 3. Occasionally I get hit again at about 3:30. They are the worst, because they awaken me without warning and the chance to mentally get prepared to deal with them. Wish I could help more! jc |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by CLR on Jun 5th, 2003, 7:52am I can't even imagine laying down and staying there with that nasty pain. Before I got the 02 I was walking through the whole house trying to get away from the pain. Sitting with 02 my hands and feet have to move. My husband was right by my side room to room. Painless days to all, Cindra |

Title: Re: Laying down Post by dellp on Jun 5th, 2003, 7:57am jc, The pattern you just described sounds very similar to mine. The trick for me has been that after the 11 o'clock hit I can sleep well proped up about 45 degrees or so; 30 degrees isn't enough and the beast returns. Has to do with grinding my teeth. I have been dealing with a loose tooth for several months now. If I grind at night the tooth is pretty much aligned when I wake; no grinding and I can feel it misaligned. Guess I get a 'gravity assist' when proped higher. Maybe that, maybe circulation, I don't know for sure but it is weird and I don't care - as long as it works. :D |
