Title: About the artwork
Post by pimmony on Jun 3rd, 2003, 3:32am
I am overwhelmed by the great reaction I am getting to my artwork, and, behind the scenes I get emails asking about buying it.

I used to paint, years and years ago, in oils and watercolours and sell my paintings but was hit so hard with depression that between the drugs and stuff I slowed to a halt and only recently started designing in graphics again.  Much of the push is because my dear Rachel does web design and is a total clunk at artwork (though secretly I think she is good at it, after all art is about expression not about being able to draw).  Anyway I do her graphics.

With the clusters I found a new outlet for expression and I think that is significant and outside of us perhaps folk would not realise exactly how lifechanging/lifestyling this condition can be or the depth and complexity of reaction of those involved.  For me it was a sudden sharp shock to the system really and a wake up call.  It is horrible and yet showed me I was alive.  What is pertinent though is that it gave me something to express again.

When I was told it helped people to have my art around it made my heart ache, not just because the pain involved in this dark abstraction is a harsh anodyne but also because it showed me that I can help with what I can do.  I had been conditioned into thinking I was pretty darn useless.

In response to those who would like to buy the artwork I have offered to translate the graphics into acrylics for now.  I prefer to work on board later but can do it on acrylic paper for now.  It would be my intention to perhaps donate one picture to Ouch for auction (and I shall do a special graphic for that) or donate a percentage of any purchased work.

In time I will get back into oils and watercolours again... gosh it has been a lot of years and the really really great thing is that my fingers are itching to get at it.  Going to head up to the storeroom and check out the state of my art stuff after this post

For now I am slow because still desperately trying to finish/redesign the cluster recording software.  I am sorry at the delay, please forgive my tardiness on this especially as it is just that ... tardiness.

big boot -----> Pimm's bottom.

My garden is looking pretty cool too!
(excuse for not working on the software)

I must say, I love your art.  The simplicity of design belies, and yet accentuates the amazing complexity of feelings portrayed.   I love the brooding quality.  It also portrays an exquisite feeling of ... aloneness.

I truly think your work (that I have seen) is some of the most thought and emotion provoking art I have seen.  It makes me want to paint again... but my stuff has no imagination, no style, and inspires no emotions like yours does.  Mine just end up as pretty pictures (if I'm lucky LOL!)

I would love to buy some of your art.  So, you have to stick around so once I get some money, I can get hold of you!!

Do you have a site where I could see more of your art?

I have been wondering what mediums you use.  Do you only work in acrylics, oils and watercolors?  And when you say you prefer to work on board, do you mean like wood? (I never thought of that!)  If so, do you sand it down?  How do you prepare it?

Ok, I'll shut up now  :-/... sorry, but I really love your work!

Sherry

(I know I probably should have pm'd you with this, but I thought maybe some of the others might be interested in your answers to my questions)

I'd like to see more of it too.
I've used art and creativity to get me through some of these nights.  It's more about using creative energy to keep my wholly unbalanced self on an even keel.
Maybe there should be a CH gallery somewhere...

I honestly had not expected such a supportive and positive response to my artwork and feel a little overwhelmed.  No, a lot overwhelmed.  (I think that feeling is going to produce another design!)

I have not set up a website, I shall ask Rach to do one for me but only for the new art, sadly, because I lost loads in the fire, and gave away tons.  All I really have at the moment is the sort of thing I am posting.

Way back, when I was actually painting in earnest for sale, I worked mainly in watercolour and ink and wash and turned out the sort of thing that people used to put in sequence up the stairwell.... birds, flowers, pets etc  ;D

I worked in acrylics and oils when I did the serious stuff for me, or for friends and then either on canvas or board (the board is poster board with linen).  I also did woodcarving and intend to start that again soon but am mostly tempted to do celtic or other ethnic signs and symbols in wood, rather than 'pictures'.  I was totally appalling at woodturning though I would love to try that again if my wrists can stand it.

The designs I have been doing recently shall be transferred onto paper, board or canvas in oils or acrylic and recently the naive lines are giving way to very fractured artwork.  It is all cluster related.

I feel very shy to sell my art now.  For a starter I have absolutely no idea of a value but perhaps that will make sense when I paint the designs, some would take ages some much less time.  I do not know.  My artwork was sold by an agent before.

Oh, I have missed SommelierCH so much.  He kindly made space to host for a cluster art gallery and was so very busy working on the cluster book.  I have not seen him lately and I hope he is okay...  Somm.... you there?

Over the next few weeks I shall work hard to get organised.  One really good thing is that you are all so very encouraging that I know I can succeed again, thank you so much.

Thanks for the link but it did not load  ???

So I popped over to your site and think JDs the artwork is wonderful!  You are not into D&D, are you?  I used to host a group at one time and am terribly addicted to the online worlds, like EQ and DAOC.   So, anyway, dragons are very close to my heart and I love that you have them on your page.

I shall hit DJs link later again just in case it is my connection behaving badly (which it might be because some of the links on your site do not work, at least for me? )
