2001 A Space Odyssey  ;)

If more recent, and for sheer impact, I am haunted by Black Hawk Down.... I am unsure that makes it a favorite but it makes it signal, for me, like Full Metal Jacket and oh gosh, for the same reason, The Deer Hunter.

Oh lord, then there is The English Patient, and The World According to Garp.

Okay okay, I still go back to 2001 A Space Odyssey as favorite

There are one or two that I forgot:

"Dr. Strangelove"

"Shawshank Redemption"

Most of the "Pink Panther" films.

"Oliver!" is wonderful

Finally:  "A Gathering Storm" ----

It's new from HBO films. Albert Finney plays Winston Churchill.  It's a late 30s pre-war true story but fun. No war, no violence. It's the best film I've seen in a long time. Rent it. You'll like it.

A worst poll?

Sorry.   :o

Lots of movies that I love out there:
The oldies:
West Side Story, Rebel Without a Cause, Wizard of Oz, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, movies with Bela Lugosi  ;D, and Errol Flynn, Babes in Toyland/March of the Wooden Soldiers (weird).

The modern... ahhh.. lots..

But THE ones I love as an "experience" and actor:
Pulp Fiction
Moulin Rouge
Natural Born Killers
Silence of the Lambs
The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and her Lover
Billy Elliott and almost anything with Julie Walters (just LOVE her)

There are so many more...but I'm not good with names, only images.

Weird stuff. :P

Godzilla! [Gojirah!]
It Happened One Night
Captain Blood
The Adventures of Robin Hood
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Klattu says to tell Gort: "Klattu Brada Nicto."

Yer right it is a great film. I like it as well as any SF movie. Though for pure joy when I was a kid, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," is hard to beat. I agree that "Conact" is right up there.

The worst SF movie is easy. "Battliefield Earth." In fact, it's on my list for one of the worst movies of all time.

I like atmospheric stuff like "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" too. Very political as well.
