Title: Re: BOOM Post by fubar on Jun 1st, 2003, 11:36pm About the Amish... I spent a summer being treated to Sunday dinner at an Amish household. I was doing a summer job as a park ranger at Gettysburg, and this family kind of took me in as a guest every Sunday... It was a pretty long drive for a meal (Gettysburg, Pa to Harrisburg) but I have never tasted such wonderful food in all my life. They made simple dishes like chicken soup taste like the most incredible gourmet food in the world. I was always amazed by their hospitality, simple lifestyle and incredible dedication to family. Hard to argue with that lifestyle. -Fu |

Title: Re: BOOM Post by cootie on Jun 2nd, 2003, 9:42am My amish buddy makes EXCELLENT wine...he brings about 30 gallon to some the bigger parties around town and camps out with us.....takes a cab to git there and home or hithces a ride. We sit around telln stories till we fall outa our chairs laughin at nite. He has a corvette and is wanting to buy a harley.....(stashed somewhere else of course)...at sum parties he changes into a harley t-shirt and dew rag on his head and gets wild...even has a harley lighter ! He took me amish buggy bar hoppin one nite with a couple other freinds and we had a BLAST !! Not all amish are what ya think they are......there's good and bad jus like in everything else I suppose and different 'orders' less strict. I see em loadin up with hostess cupcakes and doughnuts and sweet cereal , rolls and muffins around here in the grocery stores. Entire cart's full.....guess those are the lazy amish women ech ? Ha-ha ! Pam that has changed the thread subject to Amish...sorry.............. 8) |

Title: Re: BOOM Post by Charlie on Jun 2nd, 2003, 6:39pm I used to know the guy who made his living driving around Amish here. Upstate NY is full of them. They spend a lot of time in town munching on stuff they buy in news stores and at the mall. They buy a lot at auctions here as and a lot of hardware from my dad over the years, and you're right, they're not all like depicted on TV. Did they serve shoofly pie? Pennsylvania Amish eat a lot of that. Charlie |
