Title: Re: Fed up with MSN Post by BobG on May 26th, 2003, 9:27pm Do you have Cox Communication in your area? Or any cable company? Get your house wired for cable TV and computer hookup. $39 a month here. Forget the $10 a month dial up crap. Remember, you get what you pay for. |

Title: Re: Fed up with MSN Post by oringkid on May 26th, 2003, 10:16pm I agree with not4, Earthlink is pretty good (but I can't get it out here in bumphuq) And yes you have a choice in browsers! You don't have to use IE! You can use Netscape, Opera, Avant, MYIE2 (all of these are free downloads. I personally love Opera, however, there are still a few (not many these days) pages that opera cannot display. You can access your ISP branded personal start page on any browser. Sherry |

Title: Re: Fed up with MSN Post by Callico_Kid on May 26th, 2003, 10:24pm I've been on AOL for the last year plus for free, so I'll put up with some of the BS. ;D I got one of their free trial disks and every time I callto cancel they ask why and I tell them I can go to PeoplePC and get a computer thrown in for less each month and they give me another sixty days free to keep me on AOL. My dad has PeoplePC and loves it. jc |

Title: Re: Fed up with MSN Post by Georgia on May 27th, 2003, 8:01am I personally do not understand the concept of paying $30+ a month for dial-up when you can get a great ISP for under $10. When I lived in NY, I used a small company called USA Datanet as my ISP. They are in MA as well and they rule. They were $9.95 a month, no contracts - never got spam mail or annoying ads, never got booted, can use whatever browser you like, never had any complaints whatsoever. The other kick ass thing about this company is that they have this long distance service you can sign up for too (again, no contract, no monthly service fee). They use voice over technology and when you want to make a long distance call with them, you call a local number, and then dial the number you are calling. Their rate is ten cents a minute up to a max charge of 99 cents no matter how long you talk for calls in the Northeast, max charge for canada and the rest of the US is $1.99 no matter how long you talk. I used them A LOT and would talk for like 5 hours at a time and pay a buck. I know you didn't ask about long distance, but once you get me started with USA Datanet, I just can't stop. My folks still use them and are pleased as punch. At least check them out. Think of the children!! Good luck. |

Title: Re: Fed up with MSN Post by Kirk on May 27th, 2003, 7:06pm You can use any browser you like including Lynx. Which is the one I use when the need for speed hits. Earthlink is not a bad choice for dial-up, if it's available where you're at. Hang in there all you M$ and AOL users we'll get you listed with the "Americans with Disabilities Act" yet. ;D TTFN |

Title: Re: Fed up with MSN Post by katethecelt on May 29th, 2003, 11:51pm I refer to MSN as The Evil Empire. I like Earthlink. Make sure and ask about how many dial-up numbers are available from your location no matter whom you choose. You can also edit the contents of the Explorer bar. I hated AOL too. Good Luck, Kate |
