Title: Remembering Mildred Post by don on May 17th, 2003, 9:30pm This is for all you guys who addopted, loved and cared for a little old beagle we had around here for awhile. Today an organization I do fund rasing was presented a check for over $6000.00 from PetCo from a collaboration we did last December . The funds will provide bullet proof vests for every working K-9 in the state of Massachusetts that remained on our waiting list. We presented PetCo with a large wall mount plaque. I saw it for the first time today. Right smack inthe middle were the words; "In memory of Mildred" The little shit nose was also officially registered today as an honary member of the Massachusetts State Police Special K-9 Unit. Another surprise. I hope she can fix speeding tickets. http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/56ebf994/bc/pm.jpg?bclzvx.AO7h4txAq |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by Ted on May 17th, 2003, 10:50pm Hi Don. I'm sorry your dog is dead. That's gotta suck. At least it's not pissing in my cereal anymore, LOL. Or is this a real fucking point and your jokes are as funny and tasteless as mine? Did you appreciate me reaching out to you or is it easier to just forget those little things? |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by Charlie on May 17th, 2003, 10:53pm Nice Don. We're all slobs when it comes to dogs here. I've always said that people who don't like dogs are suspect. Good for you and Mildred, by the way. Charlie |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by paul_b on May 17th, 2003, 11:23pm Got a message from Guido at Rainbow Bridge. He and Mildred are doing fine, he never met a hero before but he is learning how to handle it. Special dogs have "style". (I still have not learned how to put his picture on the board but he and Mildred share the same bedding.) |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by Callico_Kid on May 17th, 2003, 11:30pm Don, I never knew about Mildred, but as the father of a member of our PD here in Aurora I'm grateful for anyone who supports our officers in any way. Our K-9s here are worth more than some of our officers!' jc |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by Peppermint on May 18th, 2003, 7:52am Oh damn... :( It truly sucks that I cannot see the first image for some reason.... but that that second one is sweet. Don, only "knew" Mildred for a short while, but your travails with her always brought a smile and chuckle. She was one lucky pup to have you! :-* It's Mildred's Day :) |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by don on May 18th, 2003, 9:22am The handlers refered to her as "The Pizza Recovery Dog" Quote:
Sorry Ted, didn't know there was a price tag on it. |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by Linda_Howell on May 18th, 2003, 9:27am well, they missed one there, didn't they? If she is an honaorary K-9 then she should be referred to as a dough-nut recovery dog. LindaH |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by ave on May 18th, 2003, 9:39am Yes, I remember her, and others of the never ending host of animal supporters. So much warmth and companionship in such a small, short existence. It makes one wonder and extra grateful. |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by don on May 18th, 2003, 10:53am Well she didn't fit the profile of other working dogs. Not an apprehension dog, drug dog or body recovery, but she loved Pizza. A lot of the handlers would bring a slice if Mildred was going to be at a demo with me. If you have lost a slice of pizza, send in Mildred. She'd find it. Sometimes they would work it into the demo for some laughs. Large shepards attacking guys in bite suits, bloodhounds finding a child in crowds, dogs tearing apart cars, and little old Mildew trotting out of a cruiser after a slice of Pizza. It was hilarious. |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by oringkid on May 18th, 2003, 11:21am That is a very fine honor for Mildred and you Don. And a wonderful thing that was done in her name. But I hate living in a world where dogs NEED to wear bullet proof vests. Dog's shouldn't have to worry about bullets, just whether or not they can get the right look on their faces or act cute enough to get a cookie or a piece of pizza..... Sherry |

Title: Re: Remembering Mildred Post by don on May 18th, 2003, 12:15pm They dont know it Sherry. It's all a big game to them. The odor of heroin means play time. The guy in the bite suit is a big toy. Apprehending the suspect means they get a treat. They dont even know they are working. Most K-9 unit cars have a remote control door opener. The dogs burst out the back of the car when the handler hits the button on his belt. Now. Picture this; The car door flies open.....nothing........still nothing Then a old grey beagle appears nearly falling out of the cars back seat. Big stretch, looks around, shakes off, ,smells pizza, wags tail, trots over to the slice, eats to applause, wanders off into crowd for more food. |
