Title: Gave my doctor a demo. Post by els on May 10th, 2003, 9:36pm I posted this under medications by mistake so I thought I should move it. I had an appointment today at 11 am with my doctor. It was just a follw up to see how the Verapamil is working for me. It's working OK but I'm only at 180mg twice a day. They've gone fom 4 a day to 2 and on some lucky days only one at night. Still very intense when they do hit though. So I got to the office and had to wait a few minutes and I could feel that sharp pain at the inner corner of my eyebrow and that popping sensation that I get. (Is that the blood vessel expanding or what?) By the time I was in the exam room I was up to a 7 headed to an 8. I was digging in my bag for my Zomig when he walked in. I chewed the pill and swallowed it and proceded to give him quite a scare. He got the works, the red eye , runny nose, sweating head, rocking, trying to push my eyeball through my head, for at least 15 mins till the zomig did it's magic. So, long story short, he won't give me more Verapamil cause even after all that my BP was only 86/60. He says if he gives me more I could pass out somewhere. So he put me on a course of Prednisone, loaded me up with Zomig samples, did an EKG, scheduled a CT head scan, and told me if the Prednisone doesn't help by next week he's refering me to a neuro. He said, "Not that you didn't before, but holy shit, you got my attention now!" So if any of you can time your appointments right a little demo works wonders. I gotta go to work, I'll check in later. els |

Title: Re: Gave my doctor a demo. Post by Mark C on May 11th, 2003, 12:58am Before I was diagnosed I got to display a K10 once for a ear nose and throat guy....his response was to "canulate" the sinus' which comprised fluiding my sinus cavities with saline and then using a vacuum pump to draw out the solution to "promote healing" of the massive sinus infection he said it was ::). I threw up one him and never went back. Its still was several years after that before I was diagnosed correctly. PFDAN's Mark |

Title: Re: Gave my doctor a demo. Post by els on May 11th, 2003, 7:48am Mark, Good one! Years ago I was told it was sinus infections also. I never had the procedure that you did but I did a year and a half of allergy shots. I finally diagnosed myself online. Have a great day! els. |

Title: Re: Gave my doctor a demo. Post by BillK on May 11th, 2003, 7:59am I like this one. More doctors need a demo. My doctor isn't even particularly interested. He just writes a prescription for whatever my nurse-wife tells him I need. |

Title: Re: Gave my doctor a demo. Post by Woobie on May 11th, 2003, 8:15am Yep!! That is how Ramon FINALLY got his correct diagnosis! It was years of Drs telling him he had "really bad sinus infections" and giving him narcotics and antibiotics... Then one day he had one in the Dr office, and the Dr said "you know? I think he's having a cluster headache. let's get him some oxygen". I had never heard of a cluster headache. The O2 worked in 5 minutes, .. and we came home and I looked up cluster headaches on the puter, and ta dah.. like magic.. here was you people. THANK GOD!!! I think Drs need to see it.. some smart person once said "Seeing IS believing". I love you guys!! Tina :-* |

Title: Re: Gave my doctor a demo. Post by els on May 11th, 2003, 8:23am My doc is pretty young and he told me that they are being taught now to consider cluster headaches when someone is reporting this kind of intense pain. So maybe younger people won't have to suffer as long as we did with ignorant doctors. Let's hope. els |
