A gift to a friend a while back - I thought I'd share this with you (please forgive me friend :-* ). For so many of you are who are getting hit so hard right now, and those of you who are not, those who bear it with you and try to be there for you.

Fear
so many days beyond despair
miseried nights of no repair
stumble
through your head
down to your heart

sufficient pain
the awful dread
in darkness
though blinds the light
the urgency of fear
drives the mind

as shards of glass
begin to pierce
the often wounded tenement
the temple of the faith
converts to fire

in agony
there's no retreat
the havens false and desperate
sorrowful the face
that fills the eye

and on the chase
I hear the snarl
the skulking rabid animal
with sharpened torches
leading to attack

the dance begins
the spirit's fight
against the weapons
weak
terror speeds on
towards dwindling time

and idly stands
another innocent wretch
unforgiven the sight
scorched
singed
burned
by the fiery struggle

knowing no assist
no harbor offers
but time -
futility of effort
weakens the will

to draw again
to reserve against
to rally days on end
to remain a stoic font of
stone and love
thus fate was served so bitterly
without a silver lining
encroaching on the dream
still sugarsweet

yet strikes the clock
to chase the beast
the enemy that feeds,
clinging,
slowly waning,
tired and sluggish

championed yet
the faith is true
the fortitude for battle
rises high
And mightier
once more

the spirit soars
the spirit reigns
becoming once again
most beloved creature
gentle
filled with light
