Title: Left to Right Post by hbomb on May 10th, 2003, 12:16am I am very impressed with this web site. As a 30+ year veteran of having clusters I have learned more about these damn headache in 2 days of reading these pages than I had learned over the past 30 years. There is no doubt that someone out there will enlighten me on the following: 1) after 30 years having left side CHs and after being without one for the last 3.5 years they finally came back about one month ago and the CH is on my right side. Does this mean anything? Will the CH have about the same effect on me as the left side CH did? 2) Is it true that CHs diminish in intensity, frequency and duration as you get older. I am 56. Thanks for your comments. |

Title: Re: Left to Right Post by oringkid on May 10th, 2003, 12:36am Welcome! Sorry to hear you have been suffering for so long. This is a great place, with caring people. As far as your questions...Hope you're not looking for definitive answers LOL! My personal experience is that I have had them for about 30 years, episodic. They used to come twice a year then once a year now every 2 years. Sometimes they are worse than others can't say that that has been a steadily declining thing though unfortunately, just seems to be random. We have some that the attacks just stopped and they haven't come back! Which is what we all hope for! As far as the other, I have only had one rogue switch hitter that I can remember (maybe 2) but they were out of cycle and single attacks. However I know there are others on here that have switched sides just as you have described. One side for so many years then it switched to the other side. So as you will see, we all seem to get hit differently, but we definitely know the pain! Again, Welcome! Stick around! Sherry |

Title: Re: Left to Right Post by Frank on May 10th, 2003, 12:41am Mine have always (for 14 years) been on the right side. I have heard that they eventually go away as you get older, but I am 46 years old so I probably have several cycles yet to go. |

Title: Re: Left to Right Post by athos12 on May 10th, 2003, 1:20am hbomb, CH's just plain suck whatever side that they are on... I have had these going on 17 years with them getting more and more frequent not less. However my grandfathers went away when he was 50... So there is hope I guess. I have had one switch sides.... When I told my nuero that, he said that I could not have CH... Then I brought several medical journals with me to my next visit that cited CH's switching and he retracted that statement. There are very few difinatives out there, and it seems that everyone has their own special relationship with the BEAST. No two sufferes are exactly alike. Best of luck to you and it is good to have you here. --Athos |

Title: Re: Left to Right Post by TomM on May 10th, 2003, 6:22am hbomb--Welcome...sortta. Judging from the age of some folks who have benn around here, age is not a factor but let's hope it is. My CH's started on the right, a few years into it, the beast switched to the left and then moved right again and has been there 6 years. I'm 40 and have been lucky enough to only deal in episodes for the last 9 years. My episodes have gone from every 18 months to every 9-12 months. Compared to others, that is luck and I am thankful. Welcome to the family! TomM |

Title: irregularity Post by rumplestiltskin on May 10th, 2003, 7:06am Having been here a while, my "humble opinion" on "Cluster traits" continues to become less rigid. The range of "triggers", frequencies, duration, effective and non effective treatments etc. runs a wide gamut. Which, is the most important reason for a board like this to exist..... So individuals can relate their particular experiences with this awful disease....for support and to pass on advice about that one strange abortive or preventative that may also work for someone who has "tried everything". bad news...90 year old Clusterheads have been reported to exist. confirmation...yes for some of us switching sides is a "normal" event. I viewed mine as nothing more than a curiosity...it hurt no more or less in my case switching sides is one of the chief reasons I cringe when I read that someone is about to have one of those drastic irreversable surgical procedures on one side of their face to "cure" Clusters. Title: Re: Left to Right Post by Bob_Johnson on May 10th, 2003, 7:09am Switching sides is not commonly reported but does occur; has no significance. Thirty-five years ago when I was first developing CH, the pain site moved around my head, from cycle to cycle, for about seven-years before settling down to one spot. I'm 67, have found cycles are shorter and farther apart (now about two-years). Medical literature suggests this may be the pattern but, it appears, not enough hard evidence to make a hard call that you can expect this. |

Title: Re: Left to Right Post by Roghfish on May 10th, 2003, 8:04am Well I'm sorry to say welcome but your right this is the best dam site out there. I'm 44y been suffering since I was about 25y most of the time on the left side once in awhile on the right. In Jan of this year they came back on the right cycle was bad but not as bad as if on the left. Then after about a 2 week break the last week of Feb. and first week of March they came back on the left side. Finilly was a Nerou On April 29 and started meds. doing much better now. This cycle on the left has been about the worst cycle I can remember. |

Title: Re: Left to Right Post by arby on May 10th, 2003, 7:54pm hbomb - Welcome aboard!! I’ve had these things for about 16 years - episodic - only about 2 cycles on the left early on . This past Dec my cycle started and turned into one of my longest and worst (still a lot better than chronic :D :D). Started to get some relief about three weeks ago – strong shadows for about two weeks then started getting hit again on the left. Weird and scary feeling??? >:(. Don’t know yet what I’m in for but it can switch even tho not common in most. Agree with Den - surgery is a verrry scarrry idea. :o :o Hope you're pain free soon Ross |
