Title: Improve your Concentration - non ch related
Post by echo on May 9th, 2003, 3:37pm
When you who have to sit through endless meetings
and conference calls where all you want to do is either fall
asleep or kill the other participants:

----------------------------------------
Improve your Concentration
----------------------------------------

Do you keep falling asleep in meetings and seminars? What about those long and boring conference calls? Here's a way to change all of that:

1. Before (or during) your next meeting, seminar, or conference call, prepare yourself by drawing a square -- 5"x5" is a good size.

2. Divide the square into columns - five across and five down. That will give you 25 one-inch blocks.

3. Write one of the following words/phrases in each block:
* synergy
* strategic fit
* core competencies
* best practice
* bottom line
* revisit
* take that off-line
* 24/7
* out of the loop
* benchmark
* value-added
* proactive
* win-win
* think outside the box
* fast track
* result-driven
* empower(ment)
* knowledge base
* at the end of the day
* touch base
* mindset
* client focus(ed)
* ballpark
* game plan
* leverage

4. Check off the appropriate block when you hear one of those words/phrases.

5. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, stand up and shout "BULLSHIT!"

Testimonials from satisfied "Bullshit Bingo" players:

"I had been in the meeting for only five minutes when I won."  --Jack W., Boston

"My attention span at meetings has improved dramatically."  --David D., Miami

"What a gas! Meetings will never be the same for me after my first win."   -- Sue S., NYC

"The atmosphere was tense in our last process meeting as 14 of us waited for the fifth box."   -- Joseph R., St. Louis

"The speaker was stunned as eight of us screamed BULLSHIT! for the third time in two hours." -- Kathleen L., Atlanta

LMAO Echo,

I am not very good in meetings and part of the reason is the stupid buzz words.  Are they from some bullshit management training, so all of the morons know the proper lingo to sound important?  I find it funny and depressing that the same words can be applied to any meeting.

Shit Echo, that's great!!!

I've been in some meetings that i'm sure you could play 'black-out bingo'.    >:(      Shit, usually a bunch of those squares would be checked off before the "howdy-do's" are finished.    :o

Maybe that will help me stay awake some of the time.   ::)

Played this game for the first time in Spring 1992. Was surplused on April 1st. And, I did not even stand-up and holler; the manager just looked over my shoulder.

I started reading this thread but forgot what it was about. Got gas. Took a nap.

LOL Echo.  That is one reason I left management and went back to work with my hands.  I'm with you Opus.
At least at the end of the day (or night whenever I get done) I can look back and see what I have accomplished and produced.  95 percent of the meetings I sat in were not unproductive, but counter-productive.  (See, I still know the words ;D)

Thanks for the good laugh!
