Title: Like Elaine on Seinfeld
Post by els on May 8th, 2003, 6:18pm
You know the episode where Elaine is judging men as to whether they are spongeworthy or not?  That's how I feel some nights when I feel an attack coming on.  I've only got so many pills so I have to decide if I think it's going to be a bad one or not.   Is it pillworthy or can I tough it out?  Is it worth a full pill or a half a pill?
This whole insurance thing sucks!  None of us deserve to have to do this.  We should have what we need when we need it.  Maybe we can get this changed eventually if we all keep at it.                                               els

Yep.

"Subcutaneous sumatriptan (6mg) is the drug of choice in abortive treatment of a cluster attack. It has a rapid effect and high response rate. In CH, unlike migraine, subcutaneous sumatriptan can be prescribed at a frequency of twice daily, on a long-term basis if necessary, without risk of tachyphylaxis or rebound.

However, in this era of a cost-conscious NHS, some practitioners are reluctant to prescribe this relatively expensive drug. We feel that, given the devastating morbidity associated with this excruciating pain syndrome, it is unethical to withhold treatment for cost reasons."

Thats where 02 comes in, Els.....Thats if it works for you.

I can abort 9 out of 10 HA's with 02 if im on it in time, the ones I cant abort are the suicide ones. Had one last nite and was crying like a baby. 2 Zomigs, ice packs and 02 couldnt touch it.

My husband is looking into getting me O2 through the fire dept. he is in.  Might not happen before this cluster ends but I damn well am going to be ready for the next one.
I'm also going to know how much Verapamil I need and have a stockpile of  Zomig.

Sorry to here you got hit Jonny.  You think you have it managed and then the beast brings you to your knees.

Els.  I know exactly how you feel.  I have my line up of options: full and split pills, injections, O2.  Will this turn into a bad one?  Do I use a piece of the pill now? Do I wait?  Wrong decision and you get a full hit.  Use to many and you run out.  Not a fun game but I guess I have accepted it.

PFD to all,  stevek
