Title: New To Your MB Post by katethecelt on May 6th, 2003, 6:27pm Hello, I'm in my 2nd or 3rd episode. This one is in it's 3rd week - longest of them to date. My regular doc, not a neurologist, diagnosed me. I have all the classic symptoms. Some of my attatcks last longer than 2 hours. I'm not taking a preventative. Plan to ask my doc about Verap next time I see her - in June. That's if I can make it that long. I'm taking Neurontin 1-200mg at bedtime, Imitrex tabs, and Fioricet. I'm 34, married, and substitute teach. I've had high pain levels before, but nothing like this. I've been researching the archives when the pain levels allow, but I'm still largely uninformed. Any advice is welcome! PFDAN's to All, Kate |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by katethecelt on May 6th, 2003, 9:12pm Don, Thanks for your advice and the Welcome! I've been using ice packs (had them from a sprained ankle) and they help a great deal. I'll try using my exercise bike - I can't sit still when one hits. I haven't tried O2 yet...wondering what my wonderful insurance (gag) will say. It's worth a shot! I've done some reading on the OUCH site. Time for me to join. I'm getting there. Wishing you PFDAN's Kate |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by Callico_Kid on May 6th, 2003, 10:21pm Welcome aboard Kate, Glad you found us, and I hope you will be able to find something to help. Ice makes it worse for me. I somethimes will try a hot shower, as hot as I can stand it right on the back of my neck. I use the pulse setting on the shower head. If I can get there early somethimes it helps. You said you are married, but you didn't mention whether or not you have kids. I learned the LaMaze method of childbirth with our kids and use the focus and relaxation techniques also. It doesn't stop them, but it does help to deal with the pain if you can keep your concentration. Hope it breaks soon. jc |

I quite frankly havent ever heard anyone that used lamase for CH pain but why not... Charlie has a great method also... he will probably post it too... Talk to your doc about uping your Neurontin that is what my hubby is on and the stuff worked miracles for him. He takes it 3 times a day. He is also on clonazepam for sleep. good luck and if you need us give a shout. Prayers going out to you Ree |

Definitely speak to your doc about preventatives and be careful of the fioricet, it can be nasty stuff if you take it too often. Hope you're feeling better soon! Joanie |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by Mack on May 7th, 2003, 2:36pm Welcome Kate, You have stumbled upon the best site and group to help you get through this wicked nightmare called cluster. Best advice is get to your doctor early and often. Get as many meds as you can before your next cycle. ( I'm learning the hard way) Best wishes and may the beast go back to sleep so you can, Mack |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by CathiP on May 7th, 2003, 3:16pm Kate- Welcome to the MB- and I'm sorry to mess in your thread, but I just HAVE to clear something up with Miss Fluffyknickers- (that would be Cathy- from across the pond)- go reread the post, Missie! MY Echo is STILL mine! See how he was sucking up? :P Oh, and Peppi- Keep my tats outta this- I'm a modest woman! :o :o And, and, Slam-man......phlggggggttttt! :P That would be the sound of the raspberries I'm sending your way.......ooooh, oooh, I feel a rant coming on!! I apologize, once again, Kate. I wish you and your family peaceful & painfree days, and once again, I welcome you to this site- hope to see you often! Cathi ;) |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by katethecelt on May 7th, 2003, 3:53pm Hi, I'm ROFLOL over some of these posts...you guys are good! My sense of humor keeps me sane - relatively ;). I'm overwhelmed and very grateful for all the Welcomes and advice. It means a great deal to me to find a group of people who understand the beast. I've found using moist heat on my neck & shoulders helps with tension from the pain & I use ice on my head. I don't have kids or know the LaMaze method, but deep breathing does help. Thanks for the info Charlie :) I'm practicing! Edna and I have agreed to share you, LOL. I need to improve my nutrition - haven't been eating much. I've been keeping notes on advice and questions to ask my doc. I've tried Zomig & Maxalt, but they didn't help. The Axert & Fioricet are so-so. I'll keep trying different home methods, meds (no narcotics), and whatever else helps....I'm not giving up the battle. Wishing you alll PFDAN's Kate |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by Peppermint on May 7th, 2003, 9:42pm Kate - laughter is good for you, but you have got to take care of number one! Quote:
Good for you for trying Charlie's abortive method, its good to try things that may work for you, even if they sound weird.... Heard of the vinegar and blue cheese thing? Quote:
This is an important and worthwhile task to do. It may be difficult, especially during your cycle, but will help you to keep track of the many combinations that may or may not work for you. I know there is a CH log thing on this site somewhere, I'm sorry, my brain's a little fried, but that notekeeping helps keeps things organized when you're caught up in the pain. Hang in there, and keep your eyes open.... there is tons of experience here, and big hearts too. PFDAN, to you and ALL the new folks I've seen posting lately, Peppermint ;) |

Title: Re: New To Your MB Post by Wendy the Brit on May 7th, 2003, 9:53pm Hi again Kate the Celt Glad you stuck around! Hope all continues well with finding some help. I agree with you andjc about the lamaze. I don't know the specific Lamaze version, but I find the techniques taught for breathing through pain in childbirth help me. It doesn't get rid of any pain but when I was having a Kip10 it stopped me panicking and going completely mad and hurting myself. Panicking I find makes the pain 10 times more unbearable. Good luck and welcome again W the B |
