Title: Oops & Apology Post by Miklos on May 3rd, 2003, 7:32pm Last night (05/02) I was searching the archives for a particular theme. I used Ueli's instructions which, when used as directed, work wonderfully. A business colleague had sent me to a link which provided a very clever image. Can you say, midgets? Having captured the image and plugged it into a note, I posted the note. I immediately reviewed the post, and to my horror, my image had been replaced with an extremely rude picture emblazoned with the caption: "I LIKE TO STEAL BANDWIDTH!" In my initial panic, I could not find the damn REMOVE option until several refreshes of the screen. The note is GONE! However, when I removed the note, I noticed that four people had viewed the post. Now, it might have been my refreshes, but there were people signed in. If anyone signed-in caught that post, you have my apologies. The results were unexpected and unintended. Hey, Pam! You still got room on that hamster shelf you talked about? I think I need to hide for a week or so. |

Title: Re: Oops & Apology Post by fubar on May 3rd, 2003, 8:50pm Miklos, Drk^Angel is right. In all liklihood, your link to that picture (regardless of the content of the picture) was being automatically replaced with a link to a picture containing the words "This person likes to steal bandwidth". They do this because, by linking to it from a foreign site (not the original home), you are essentially using their bandwidth for a purpose they did not intend. They pay money for the bandwidth, and they believe the picture should only be viewed when a visitor is actually at that site. This kind of protection has been around for a long time. When you run into problems like this, the thing to do is put the picture somewhere that you control, like your own host, or at one of the many picture hosting sites. There are even free ones to use. If anybody has a problem like this in the future, I'd be happy to put pictures up on my server. -Fu |
