Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by juvy on May 2nd, 2003, 4:17pm Mack, i have CPH and i only get pain in my neck after i've have an attack that is lasting for hours. Even then it's just tension from the pain in my head and can usually be calmed by a cup of mint tea. cheers, Juvy |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by BobG on May 2nd, 2003, 4:21pm Welcome to the board Mack. Some people have said they get the pain in the neck. I'll answer your question with a question....... Could it be from holding the neck in an unusual way to compensate for the pain in the face? I really don't know. |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by echo on May 2nd, 2003, 4:28pm Welcome to the board Mack. Can't relate to the neck situation. That is one aliment that I don't get. Good suggestion from BobG tho' you may be doing something weird to your neck during your dance. |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by ShariRae on May 2nd, 2003, 4:55pm Welcome aboard Mack! I sometimes get a pain on the left side of my neck, but I did notice that I tend to hunch my shoulders up during an attack as well as slightly tilt my head to the left as well (headaches are always on the left side) Could just be like Bob said..the way you are holding your head.. Shari |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by Marc on May 2nd, 2003, 5:13pm Mack, Yes. I can always tell when I'm about to get hit - I start turning my head (or sort of roll it around) before I even realize that I'm doing it. Like Jonny said, I also tend to press on the back of my neck seeking relief - doesn't work, but I still do it. I've always assumed it was related to a nerve bundle running through that area. Marc |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by oringkid on May 2nd, 2003, 5:48pm I definitely get the pain in the left side of my neck and running down into my shoulder. It hangs on for a while after the CH attack is over too. So I am pretty sure that it is tension from the pain. But on really bad ones the pain spreads down into my upper and lower jaw too so some of it could be from the actual CH. But next time you have one, try to notice if you are hunching your shoulder up and tilting your head. I do that, like ShariRae said. So that is why I think it is probably tension. Advil should help that. Sherry |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by Miklos on May 2nd, 2003, 6:04pm When I had daytime headaches, I would often have pain like you have described. During the headache I would use ice packs in one form another on my head and neck. Afterwards, I would use a Warm Whiskers (Do NOT ask. It is a product my wife sells in her Teddy Bear store. They are too cutesy-poo to be believed.) nuked in the microwave plus a couple of Execedrin Extra Strength. Then lie waaay back in the recliner and wrap that sucker around my neck and shoulders. Bliss! But, of course, there was always another episode. Bleakness. |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by kim on May 3rd, 2003, 6:57am Yes. Ganglion Lump - feels like a tight knot in neck/shoulder. Happens every time. I apply pressure and heat and it provides some relief....Cold to the head and facial areas of pain and heat to that neck/shoulder pain. Well wishes. Kim |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by Ann on May 3rd, 2003, 8:49am Yes, I get that a couple of weeks before the cycle starts. It's my warning that the beast is on it's way. It's no better or worse during an attack. Like Sherry, Jonny and a lot of other clusterheads, I tend to rub my neck during an attack...but the neck/shoulder pain never goes away. The beast eventually does. I've started taking muscle relaxants and that seems to ease the pain. Doc gave me Vioxx too, but I take enough medicine...know what I mean? Welcome to the board. Sorry you had to find us. hugs Ann |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by Mack on May 5th, 2003, 11:24am Thank you all! I feel validated ??? In all of the diagnosis' descriptions I've read I think only one said anything about neck pain. I lurked around here about 18 months ago during my last bout with da monsta. Board seems friendlier now ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by Callico_Kid on May 5th, 2003, 11:58pm Welcome aboard! I get neck pain, but only because I grab my right temple with my left hand and pull when the beast hits hard. I often wouldn't realize I was doing it until after the bout was over until I totally tore the shoulder muscle. (I didn't even feel the pain of the torn muscle until much later and wouldn't have known how it happened if my left ear had not been on my shoulder and I heard the muscle tear.) jc |

Title: Re: Newbie question..... go ahead...flame on Post by Charlie on May 6th, 2003, 5:08am A belated welcome and glad to have ya. In the 22 years I had this horror, I never had a pain elsewhere that wasn't caused by my sitting in strange positions that I thought might help. It didn't. Stick around. We need some new blood.
