Title: Re: help! Post by Frank on Apr 29th, 2003, 4:33pm If your heart is in good shape it probably would not hurt. On the other hand, if one didn't work... I'm guessing that a second won't either. :'( |

Title: Re: help! Post by Marc on Apr 29th, 2003, 6:58pm All of the drugs in Triptan family (Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Axert, Frova) can be potentially dangerous to some people if overused. I think that most of us have exceeded the maximum dosage on many occasions - a few with bad results. The problem is that these drugs were tested for use with migraines - not Clusters........ The key point is how your body reacts and no one here is qualified to judge how much is too much for you. Work with your doctor to find out what the lmits are for you. Marc |

Title: Re: help! Post by Jackie on Apr 29th, 2003, 7:19pm els, Marc makes some good points. Do you use 02? Blake does the triptans and tops them off with a good snort of 02.....takes the pain level down faster and to an even lower level. Good luck Jacks 8) |

Title: Re: help! Post by Elaine on Apr 29th, 2003, 7:21pm I agree with Marc, and if you can't get the doctor tonight call the drugest! Also you can try other things that might help! A cold shower, putting your face into the air conditioner vent and breath the cold. Running in place. Hold ice on your eye untill the ice hurts. Drink coffee! There are several things we all do when we can't take any more meds! Hold on and know your not alone and remeber this the pain will go away! |

Title: Re: help! Post by catlind on Apr 29th, 2003, 7:28pm els, I don't know if you have any other health issues, so it's a dangerous thing to do advising you. I will tell you that I have been instructed to take a maxalt MLT, and can take another 20 min. later if the headache hasn't aborted. Again, you need to know what your doc thinks about it. Cat |

Title: Re: help! Post by els on Apr 29th, 2003, 8:07pm Thank you all for responding, I realize now that I shouldn't ask you guys about dosages cause you don't know my health history, but I was in a panic. I was out shopping when I got hit and i had samples of Maxalt so I took one in the car and started driving home and it just got worse and worse. My eye was tearing so bad I couldn't see out of it so I was driving with one eye, saying "Shit,Shit,Shit" the whole way. I looked at the speedometer and I was doing 80 on this curvey 2 lane road. I don't know how I made it home. Pretty stupid. By the time I got home 20 mins later the meds weren't doing anything. 20 mins more, still nothing. The Maxalt are 10 mgs and I usually only have to take 5 mg of Zomig so I didn't know whether to take more or not. Anyway, it passed finally and I'm still in one piece so alls well for now. I may be trying oxygen but until then I'll stick with my Zomig. and I won't drive if it gets that bad. Thanks again, els. |

Title: Re: help! Post by Frank on Apr 29th, 2003, 8:47pm I forget if you said whether you have tried Imitrex injections? I got caught a couple of weeks ago with a Kip-10... convenienty at the same time I picked my 8 year-old up from school. I had to do an Imitrex shot there in the school parking lot, but it did reduce the Kip-10 down to a Kip-2 or 3 in about 6 minutes. I didn't like giving myself a shot in the parking lot in front of my kid, but the Imitrex and Maxalt tablets don't do shit for me at all... or if they do, it's like 30 minutes or longer before they take effect, and then still don't work well. So, it was either that or walk home. If you can get your doctor to prescribe the injections, I highly recommend them. |

Title: Re: help! Post by Margi on Apr 29th, 2003, 9:10pm Hi Els, sorry you're getting nailed so bad. :( you've been given some really good advice here - only your doctor knows if you're a good candidate to exceed dosage on any med. triptans have been known to cause heart problems (Monique's Greg had a heart attack first time he tried Imitrex, regular dose!) - so they really can be lethal weapons. We're sure not doctors here - just warriors. Elaine and Jackie both gave you real good advice about alternative aborting techniques. And...please don't drive when you're getting hit. My hubby has had to do that too and it just scares the crap outta me. And I'm sure a lot of other drivers! :o Pull over. You're living proof that the attacks DO pass, right? Hang in there, friend. |
