Title: Not a good mood!! Post by jonny on Apr 29th, 2003, 2:40pm Most of you know I have two birds and have seen pics of me and them getting out of the shower with them. The female died yesterday I thought I had her for eight years but my breeding records show ive had her for ten Im going to bury her today, I made a nice stainless steel cross for her that I will take a pic of it and post in this thread later. The bird I have left is going nuts because he has never been alone in his life. Below is a pic of Pepe and I getting out of the shower years ago. http://tinyurl.com/aliw .............................jonny :'( |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by jonny on Apr 29th, 2003, 3:12pm Thanks folks, most peolpe would think its just a bird. I use to let her sleep on top of her cage on the playground on the weekends....6 am sharp she would climb down the cage, run up the blanket and start biting my ear to wake me up. Use to let her free reign on the supper table, man can they splash mash pataoes around, thats why they always showered with me....LOL Thanks again.............................jonny |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by CathiP on Apr 29th, 2003, 3:39pm Awww, Jonny- Looks to me like a lot of people here understand your pain. Unconditional love is hard to come by, but that's what our pets give us. I am glad you have your other bird to keep you company, maybe you can help each other get used to your home being a bit quieter without Pepe. My sympathy, Jonny. Cathi |

I cried and it hurt like hell burring him. Life hasn't been the same. I miss his little personality and his beutiful song. He will always be apart of me just like Pepe will always be a part of you. You will always have those wonderful memories. I will be praying for you. |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by Wendy the Brit on Apr 29th, 2003, 4:14pm I'm sorry Jonny RIP Pepe. Now flying in a big free sky somewhere! I didn't know you kept birds, I keep them too so I have some idea how attached you get. Mine are a lot smaller than yours, canaries and foreign finches. I was very upset when I lost my oldest Canary, Rocky. He was a real character (hence the name from Rocky Bilbao) and lived to 11 years old, which is old for a small bird. He was Top Bird in my aviary, even though he was a geriatric. Loads of love Wendy |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by don on Apr 29th, 2003, 5:45pm If it's any consolation Pepe is now amongst numerous cluster pets and friends. I know there is a special place for cluster pets to hang out together when they leave us. They to have witnessed our pain and suffered with us in their own way. Pepe is sitting on Mildreds head getting a free lift around town right now. Picture that! |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by els on Apr 29th, 2003, 5:46pm Jonny, I am so sorry about your bird. Don't let anyone belittle your love for "just a bird". I had a beautiful blue parakeet named Joshua who gave and received more love than any animal 100 times his size. I have never been without a pet of some sort. They don't care how mean you get and you don't have to explain your pain to them, they just want to be there. I hope you are doing okay. els. |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by Frank on Apr 29th, 2003, 8:05pm Sorry to read about the loss of your pet. You get really attached to them and then they have the balls to die on you without even warning you in advance. It ain't fair. :'( |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by achinghead on Apr 30th, 2003, 7:13am Jonny... I lost one of my birds November 19th.. It was pretty tough.. I only had her for 2 yrs but the bond was very strong. She was a Latino.... her mate is a pearl.. I had to take her to the vet one night because she had pushed her organs out of her trying to lay an egg.. I was faced with about an $800.00 bill and then there was no guarantee she would make it.. I didnt have the money so had to put her to sleep.. It was very hard. Thankfully my girlfriend was there because I really think I woulda broke down pretty hard if she wasnt. I still miss Daphanie immensly. I would fall asleep on the couch and when i would wake up.. shed be there near my face with here head tucked into my cheek sleeping with me.. I truly love that bird.. so much personality.. I can understand the loss first hand with a bird.. they become little humans too.. I finally got pearl a mate a couple months ago but its not the same.. I dont think any bird can take daphanies place.. Good luck to you Bro.. and you will heal... |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by 9erfan on Apr 30th, 2003, 11:00am Sorry to hear about Pepe Jonny. She wasn't "just a bird"...she was your family. I feel your pain, I know I will be devastated when 1 of my cats leaves me. What's the other birds' name? Maybe when things settle down you can think about getting another bird to help keep the male bird (and you) company. xxooxxoo Virginia |

Title: Re: Not a good mood!! Post by oringkid on Apr 30th, 2003, 3:44pm So sorry Jonny, I know what it is like. 10 years is a long life for a bird, even a cockatiel I would imagine and I am sure she had a good life! If you do get another, put her in a separate cage that is beside his cage and don't let her out at first . When our female (budgie) died, we made the mistake of putting her in with the male immediately and he did NOT like it. Let him decide to get to know her, if he is interested and is always chatting to her and/or trying to get into her cage when you let him out, then you can try putting them together. Course, I don't know how you had them originally, I just assumed they shared a cage. Again, so sorry! Sherry |

I call my dogs "kids". I hope the other friend doesn't get too lonely. Show it extra attention, should ease the loss somewhat.
