Title: Can You Please Say A Prayer For My Mom?
Post by suzy617 on Apr 26th, 2003, 5:54pm
I know how all the good vibes and prayers have helped others in here and I'm asking if you do pray that you will say a little prayer for my mom. If you dont pray, please send some good vibes.
My mom has been in a nursing home for a couple of years going downhill. She suffers from dementia, she is 75 yrs. old. Today she suffered a stroke and went into seizures and my brother and I had to make a decision to not to resusitate. I do not think she could ever get better but I just want her to be in peace. I cry when I think of the woman she once was and how she has to live now.
I thank you all. You are part of my family and I love you all.

Sorry for your troubled time.  Someone once said to me "there are things worse than death"  I firmly believe this to be true.  May your family find peace in your time of need

suzy...believe me when I say that I am truly sorry for this turn of events.... my ole MOMS is almost 80...thankfully, as sharp as a tack and cranky as a Model T.... but she's confined to her chair and get's by on the vodka and cigarettes I dole out to her.....  this is not to make light of the pain you are in, but to say that *some* of the old farts don't go easy.... and anyway, we, as the *kids* can make their lives easier...
...well, it'll come back to us....when we're old 'n cranky......
godspeed....N4H

May there be a blessing of peace upon your house.

I have experienced your pain once, and I am afraid that the second round is not far in the future. Cannot do vibes, but I -can- send waves  of empathy.

Suzy, this is hard time for anyone to go through, and I am so sorry you are experiencing it now.  I do know the sense of helplessness and grief you are feeling.  My thoughts, hopes and prayers are with you in this.  Sleep easy with the decision you have made, and remember the vital woman she once was. That is how she would want you to think of her.

I wish I knew what to say, but I would agree with what Ree said.  I know it hurts.  But you have good memories and she guided you on the road to becoming the good person you are today.  We all have to leave this life at some point and it sounds like she had an enriched life.

I don't pray, but, know that love, understanding and strength is being sent your way.

Suzy Ted and I will be praying for you, your mother and your family.  You had to make a difficult desion today.  Rest asured your mother is in a place of peace.  The Bible tells us that we get glorified new bodies once we pass with white robes to wear.  There is no sickness no dispair.  Remember your mother as she was before she got ill because that is how she is now.

My dear Suzy,

I was lucky. My parents were 38 yrs. old when they had me, and 42 when they had my brother, and in the late ‘50s this was old. By the time they reached their 80’s, my father could see the writing on the wall, and drew up “Living Wills” for him and Mom. The non-resuscitating clause, was chosen by them, so I didn’t have to do that. But, believe me, when my Mom, with Alzheimer’s suffered her second stroke in the nursing home, I realized that there was NO OTHER humane choice. Please don’t beat yourself up for doing the right thing. I am here to tell you, it IS the right thing.

You know that I am here for you, please feel free to unload on me anything that you want. I will listen, and help as best as I can.

With all my prayers for your Mother,
David J.

Suzy my friend,

I am sorry to be late with this.   Please check your messages when you get home.
I agree with those who said you did the right thing.  I watched my dad's quality of life and person degrade to such a level that was not even a flicker of who he used to be.  Alzheimer's almost killed him, but cancer took over in the end, and the two combined did force us to make the same decision you made.
My father always said he 'd live to be a hundred years old and would go down fighting.  He left us at 62.  :( He didn't know.  We fought so hard not to let him go.  In the end, in my heart of hearts, I know he was just waiting for us to do just that.

Big hugs to you and strength for the days to come.
Vibes & Prayers to your Mom, you and your family.

Pepper

Sorry to hear of your pain. I'll pray for you and your family. I know things like this are difficult to experience, but just remember that while our view is myopic, there is an overall plan that works for the greater good.

Take care
