Title: Beta Blockers
Post by Brian_Y on Apr 21st, 2003, 9:59am
Doctor is trying beta blockers on me as prophylactic measure.  Anyone else had any success or know any stories?

If there is something the archives about this, do not waste disk space by telling me there are stories about this in the archives.  I am too lazy to look and too full of ennui to care!!!!    ;D

I appreciate your help, folks....I need to find the THING that works...

God, I hate wasting all of my sardonic remarks.  I need to use them more effectively.  But I expected this, so I blame myself.

I'll go and look, but excluding the aforementioned posts, does anyone have any other relavant, recent exposure they'd like to share?

Due to my being the nice guy I am, I looked for beta-blocker info on this site, so let me let everyone else know to save them some time (more than likely even less time than posting a link to search for pertinent info):

There is nothing.

Not in the past two (2) years that does not have to do with mixing verapamil and verapamil like drugs with beta-blockers and teh ensuing issues therein.  So any info anyone can help me with RE your own experience, I would appreciate it.

Brian,

I too stumble _absolutely_ in the face of the CH.com search laboratory. Never have been able to find squat, while others seem to be able to find peas in a haystack. Perhaps I need to take a refresher course in proper use of Boolivian Operands. Only two places I know of to look for goop:
http://drfeller.com/temp/search1.jpg and the ever popular http://drfeller.com/temp/search2.jpg
Managed to find 12 "Beta Blocker" entries.....5 from 1999, and 7 from 2001........instead of the expected 17,496 results from 128,217 documents searched.
Please feel free to enlighten Brian....while I hide _Over Here_ behind this rock.

Beta Blocked,
RJ

RJ and Cathy,

Thanks and thanks for your good manners.  Anything I can research on my "own" I do.  I suspect I'd not even be asking this if I thought my doctor had filled me in as completely as I would have liked and thus would have negated part of the purpose of this board.  That's the whole point of information sharing on this board though, agreed?

Tried 'em, didn't do squat for me.

The link I gave returns 114 posts for 'beta blocker' and 179 for 'Atenolol or Inderal'.

But then, it occured to me a long time ago that to obtain any hits from the search engine I cannot leave the 'Max Age since last post' at 0 hours + 0 days.....

Ueli,

That's what I did (0 hours bit)!!!  Because when I clicked on your link it was just the "blank" search engine w/ no criteria...  Thanks for your knowledge and assistance.  I'll see what I can find.

I'm the exception. Inderal worked very well for me and I deliberately stopped taking the stuff when my cycle ended, When they started again, I'd take them again. I could stand a couple days of pain rather than take more zombie producing crap.  Damn stuff was great.

Did you want him to fill it out for you?

It is a difficult search engine to use. I can not get any more than 25 hits. Sometimes I get no hits.

Go to yahoo. Type in "cluster headaches" "beta blockers". Got 849 hits.

I will be Mr. Nice guy and say don't mix Verapamil with another Beta Blocker. Both can be taken but the risk is sudden and rapid decrease in heart rate and in Blood Pressure.

My Neuro did me a favor and added a Beta Blocker (Nadolol 5mg) initialy to my 240mg SR 3 x daily dose of Verapamil. After 5 days my BP plumeted to 89 over 50 something and my heart rate dropped into 40's. Hell I never got to taper up to the 10mg dose prescribed.
The drop occured in three hours. At 4pm I was running 120 over 85 but by 7 pm that evening my BP and heart rate where in the dumper.

Long and short of it I got to stay a night in Cardiac care due to heart rate that kept fallling. I have a healthy heart but it does not like drugs telling it to work at 50% capacity.

So my reccomendation is do more research. I won't take Verapamil with a Beta blocker again.
