But since there are a number of people here with it or affected by it because of a loved one, I figured I'd post this article anyway. It's about new meds in treating it.

;D ;D :-/ Ted,
Thanks for the link, this is old news for anyone that has Hep C and a Computer, I did the Chemo they are talking about 4 years ago! Still here and still very sick, what makes mine unique is my blood is so thin they can't even do a biopsy so a liver transplant is not an option!
There might turn out to be a link between these viruses and Cluster headaches yet! I had Hep b-nonb which was hep c before they learned to recognise it 34 years ago, around the same time my clusters started?

Thanks for the reminder, Ted.

Im past due for my blood test, last year the liver function test came back bad and had to take it again. It was all good but I spent two weeks reading the internet how I was going to die waiting for the results.

It says new but it's not for me I assure you, I have done a lot more research on Hep C than I ever did on Clusters, I have lived over 2 years beyond the time line I was given, I had the Ribovarin and Interferon treatment in 1998  and it failed Miserably, and yes they have come out with a new med, a hybred of the interferon, but if you took the alpha treatment you cant take this one!
I am at Deaths door step with my back turned and a foot forcing the door to stay closed from Hep C. I appreciat all efforts to help but I live on the computer researching alternitives to just sittling or laying her and giving up, I am a fighter and I will fight this also until there is no strength left, If you doubt me here is my Phone number call and ask my wife of 31 years. or my Grandkids that are in Miami at the Zoo today with Just Big Mom because Pappy can't walk very far before he falls down! 239-649-8290. I spend the majority of my time laying in the bed exausted beyond words. a shell of my former self and I have just started a new Fruit and Veggie diet designed for combating Hep C, I feel some improvement in my energy already and it's only been a few weeks, but I still tell you that this is OLD NEWS to me! I watch from the research side before any thing is made public!
Bless you all for trying, Just Pray for us that have this decease, Nancy and Steve-(oneblindeye) and I are fighting this together at the same time, she talks to me 2 times a month at least, ask her if this is new news!
              Love Ya All!   Pappy

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2003 — New experimental compounds may be able to help the body fight off hepatitis C — an incurable virus that infects millions around the world and causes liver failure and cancer, researchers said Thursday.

NEW TOOLS TO BATTLE VIRUSES

This in turn could lead to new ways to battle a number of different viruses, from the AIDS virus to herpes.
In the meantime, two drug companies — Schering-Plough and privately owned German company Boehringer Ingelheim — have developed compounds they hope will work against hepatitis C.
Gale’s team tested the Schering product, called by its experimental name SCH-6, and found it could protect the cell’s defenses.
“We found that the new protease inhibitors could actually prevent the virus from blocking this immune response and basically restore the innate antiviral response in human cells,” Gale said.

But Boehringer has reported on Phase I clinical trials, designed to test the safety of a drug in people, that suggest its protease inhibitor is both safe and may at least greatly reduce levels of the virus in the body.

Above is the new drug still in clinical trials, below is most likely the treatment you received.

An antiviral drug called ribavirin, used along with an immune system booster called alpha interferon, can help some patients control hepatitis C infection but does not cure it.

I'm done, lee  ::)

Thanks for always thinking of us Ted.  Hubby is set up with an appointment in Philadelphia with a Hepatologist specialist at Albert Einstein.  They do a lot of "studies" there with new drugs and we are hoping that perhaps he can try one of the new drugs, as the old ones just don't seem to be cutting it.  I'll have to ask about "SCH-6" when we go.  Love the code name !!!  In the meantime, we are hanging tough and just enjoying the heck out of our new grandson ... he is such a blessing !!!! Hope all is well with everyone here .... I try to check the board every now and then but with hubby so sick sometimes it's hard to find the time.  I haven't forgotten about you guys though .... you are still in my prayers.

By the way, the drugs listed in the article are old ones (Rebetol and Interferon (all different types - Alfa, Pegasys, Infregen) have been used for years) but the new one is SCH-6.  Wonder what they will call it when it hits the market ?  I also wonder whether it is another type of interferon.  I also have read alot about the T3 (IRF3) cells but never heard of the IRF7 ... so that was new to me.  They are doing lots of research these days as there are tons of people who are not responding to the normal meds used.  There is hope folks !!!!!!!!

Thanks Pappy. But I'm not really concerned with if it was old news or new news. I wasn't part of that argument in this thread (As I said, I'm not really concerned with it). I just posted this in case it might help someone out there with Hep C, after reading the article that was in that days MSNBC Daily News newsletter.
Hope you're feeling well.
