Title: Blood Pressure?
Post by andy on Apr 17th, 2003, 7:26pm
Heres a question for everybody.                                                                                                                               How is your blood pressure when you are in cycle?    Last nite i checked my BP before i went to bed and it was very low, 80 something over 40 something. i checked when i woke up today and it was normal 120 over 70.  BTW ive been painfree since yesterday after having 2 kip 10s early am. Praying for another PF nite! .........Andy

Andy,

Under the medications section, there is a whole thread that talks about BP and CH. I think it's called "Blood pressure and clusters" or something very similar. Check it out.

PEACE AND LOVE,
GEORGIA

My BP regularly runs about 125/92... my age is 46. That is taking 480mg verapamil everyday. Your mileage may vary.

Georgia, thanks for the reply, but i didnt find the thread  that you mentioned. Ill keep searching for it though. I will be checking my BP regularly to see if there is a difference  while under attack verses painfree checks.   i am in no pain at the moment. i will keep you all posted on my findings. Thanks much, andy

Here is a real weird observation re: Verapamil and my bp.

Due to an over med issue with Verapamil and a beta blocker last week my cardiologist pulled Verapamil back from 240mgSR 3x daily to once at night.

Before this change by BP was consistently in the mid 130's over mid to upper 80's. with heart rate in upper 70's to low 80's

Once I dropperd Verapamil to just one 240msSR a night three things happened.

1) my BP is now consistently mid to low 120's over low 70's with heart rate aroound mid 60's

2) My daily hemicrania continua headache pain level went from 4's to below 2.

3 My daily clusters went from 3 + attacks a day to one every other day.

I can't explain but I sure am going to be talking this over with the two Neurologists who pushed my dose up as high as it was. I suspect the dosage they had me at did more harm than good and took me from episodic to chronic cluster last year when they tweaked it up so blasted high.

I am not on any meds and since my BP was low last nite(i checked it twice) i wonder if that is what caused me to have a painfree nite. Is there anybody out there that has low blood pressure and CH at the same time?    ...........andy

The thread is on page 1, about 2/3's of the way down on the medications board.

Or you can just click here: http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action=display;num=1047934347

Does this make me an enabler?

Good grief,

I have low b/p and CH.  Typically my b/p is in the 100's/60's.  I've seen it low enough for the nurse to take it 3 times and get another nurse in to check if she was right (they told me I should be dead, goes to show what they know  ::) )

It's not at all unusual for me to sit in the 90's over 50's either.  Everytime I've had my b/p taken when getting hit my b/p is considerably higher.  130's/80's or 90's.

That kind of a jump in pregnancy scares the begeezus outta doctors, but on the norm, no one seems to think it's a problem.  I've been told repeatedly that b/p raises when you are in pain (of any source) so I guess I take their word for it.

I too had my b/p raise on initial doses of verapamil, it then took a nose dive and I was dizzy and doing the fainting thing which has stopped my use of verap now.

Win some ya lose some ;)

Not sure the connection is anything other than pain related.
