Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by Brian_Y on Apr 16th, 2003, 3:25pm Isn't it when God passed over all the marked houses when he was killing the first born of all those folks who lived in Egypt because the Pharoah was holding them as slaves? He rained frogs and locusts on 'em too. Moses then led the Jews to the promised land. Am I right? |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by Bob P on Apr 16th, 2003, 3:28pm Jonny, Passover is when our peace loving, anti-war God decided to kill the first born child of every living thing in Egypt. People, animals, everthing, except for Moses' gang. They killed a sheep or goat, put the blood on their door and spent the night inside chowing down on the sucker while God was killin' all the other people. When the grim reaper came to a house with blood on the door it would 'passover' that house and not kill anyone. Just spend tonight in your pad with a bucket of KFC and you should be ok. |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by Ted on Apr 16th, 2003, 3:35pm It's the celebration of freeing the Jews from slavery. Peace loving God? If that were the case he wouldn't have so many people killed in the name of Jesus, would he? |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by cathy on Apr 16th, 2003, 4:02pm Passover... With tears and rejoicing with song and praise, the jews through many centuries have celebrated the festival of freedom which commemorates their deliverance from egyptian bondage, as told in the book of Exodus. The bible story tells of the 10 plagues which smote the people of egypt. The last was the most terrible, for it involved the death of the first born in every egyptian household but the israelites were commanded to take a lamb for each household, kill it and offer it as a burnt sacrifice and sprinkle the blood upon the doorpost. 'For the lord will pass through to smite the egyptians and when he seeth the blood upon the lintle, and the two side posts, the lord will pass over the door.' So now on the eve of the passover a jewish family gathers round the festal board to thank god for the preservation as a people. The last supper of christ and his disciples was the opening feast of the passover. The date of the passover is not determined in the same way as that of easter, however, hence they do not always come together. Passover begins on the 14th of the jewish month of nisan and lasts until the 21st. Only unleavened bread is eaten, and the first and last days are kept as holy days. Orthodox jews keep 8 days, not 7, the first two and last two being holy days. Cathy :) |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by Bob P on Apr 16th, 2003, 5:33pm Currently reading Exodus. Up to the wine from the rock, which is not far after the Passover. The comment about our peace loving God was a sarcastic shot at those who protest war on the premise that it isn't what God would want. I believe the Lord has shown throughout the Bible that he just can't stay away from a just war. Just, being one that fights evil. |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by Charlie on Apr 16th, 2003, 7:23pm Thanks guys. I never get it all right. Enjoy Ted. That was good kids. For the last couple centuries, this god has been effen weird. It's time for some serious smiting. Especially of a good percentage of those who "speak" for him. Charlie |

Lachium is good for acid reflux (the whiny disease formerly known as heartburn) but it doesn't do much for clusters. Jonny, thanks. Happy Passover to you too. Good to see someone just say it back after all these years of posting it. It didn't matter if you knew what the holiday was. I appreciate the respect of just acknowledging it. :-) Roxy, Happy Passover to you too. You were one of the very first people to acknowledge these posts after all these years. Bob, thanks for the explanation. Because it sure sounded pretty disrespectful to yet another non-Christian religion the way you left it in the begining. The moment I find someone anti-war because God's supposedly peaceful I'll send him your way. Cathy. Very cool. Thanks. I was rushing to get back to work when I gave the quick overview. I'm glad you posted the more in-depth story. Charlie, you always respond. :-) Probably for the same reason I always mention it. The neo-liberal Zionist plans to take over the world. Suzy and Peppermint, Happy Passover to you too. |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by Callico_Kid on Apr 16th, 2003, 11:48pm Happy Passover to you Ted and to all other Jewish Clusterheads. Though I'm not Jewish I have always found Passover to be one of the most hopeful of all the religious celebrations because of not only looking back to see God's deliverance in the past it also looks forward to God's deliverance in the future. I hope the day will soon come when the Messiah's seat is not empty at your table. Shalom! jc PS Sorry to get to this thread so late :( ! |

Title: Re: Happy Passover Post by SommelierCH on Apr 18th, 2003, 9:29am Tedster, I live in an Orthodox/Hasidic neighborhood, with 4 Temples within walking distance (no driving after sundown Friday). Seder cooking is driving me nuts, the wonderful cooking smells are all around me. I give my Jewish friends “Bernard Hertzog” wine for their Seder, it’s Kosher, but a far cry from Mannyshivitz. If you do the Seder games, after dinner, with the “drink a glass of wine” penalty, you understand the need for decent wine. Peace be with you. Live Free. David J. P.S. My birthday was Wed. the 16th, it felt special. |
