I did some poking around to see who they are. The medical director for the National Clusterheadache Foundation  is Dr. Alexander Mauskop, M.D. from the New York Headache Center in NYC.

So Don.... is Dr Mauskop on the Convention invitee list?

Did anyone take the survey?

Is it spring 2002 yet?

I'll pitch in when they "launch the survey in Spring 2002"

Hope they're legit.

I wonder when that site was created if their goal isn't something similar to OUCH? To increase awareness of clusterheadaches and find a cure for the beast?

Instead of putting their website down for trying to do the same thing we are trying to do here... how about a nice "hello from clusterville" email?

Wouldn't it also make sense that it is very possible the owner of that site is a member here?  I think the site is quite well done.  I'm not saying I would donate yet (if I could), but I think it is well done.  It can only help our cause if the information remains credible and any donations are used to help us find a cure (as stated).

I'll do some research on Dr Mauskop

No promises though :)

My list of invited speakers is of people involved in NEW cluster information, I don't want someone preaching to the choir :)

I went to that site and was reading the info on cluster headaches. WTF? Some of the stats it mentioned for who gets CH: Most CH occur in men, overweight people and that CH has never been diag. in left handed people. I must be a freak then because I'm female, I'm thin AND I'M LEFT HANDED! Geez.

I never heard that CHs mainly hit fat people who are only right handed, but the majority of people who do get it are male, so that part is correct.
It might not have been updated in quite a while but it was sure nice to see someone concerned (or affected?) enough to put it together.

That threw me off. I'm right handed and my attacks can hit the right or left side (I guess that's where I'm ambidexterous) and couldn't imagine why I'd write that. Then I checked the e-mail address of the Ted on that thread and saw it wasn't me. That Ted also predates me here by a few months.

More from him: I found the following at this site: http://www.geocities.com/wstarron/capsaicin24.htm
Like magnesium. See your doctor about this one. A study at the New York Headache Center found that a shot of magnesium can relieve severe migraine or cluster headaches within 15 minutes. The shots worked only for people with low magnesium levels, but there's a 50-50 chance you're one of them, says Alexander Mauskop, M.D., who directed the study Oral supplements don't have the same effect, but daily doses may prevent migraines. Dr. Mauskop recommends 500 milligrams of chelated (check the label) magnesium, divided into two or three doses through the day.

Here he is throwing a party:

That site is a little off, but it's good that other people out there are aware of what CH is all about and how it may affect us.

I was also surfing around and found this site - http://www.chhelp.org  Looks interesting - they do have a questionnaire up and some other things too.  Might be helpful reading.

Actually there are several other sites out there that discuss clusters, www.clusterheadaches.net , hmm this one disappeared, the .net one that is. www.chhelp.org , and a host more that have specialty sites.  Here's one that discusses hyperbaric O2 for clusters.  There is alot more out there than there was even a year ago.
