Title: Convention may be cancelled Post by don on Apr 8th, 2003, 7:01am There have been 12 regitrations recieved for the )# convention. A minimum of 50 are required for a successful booking. Being the Prez. I am responsible for the appropriate spending of OUCH funds as we are bound by 503 (c) regulations. Therefor; If registration is not up in the next two weeks I will reccomend to the OUCH BOD that no further funding expenditures be committed to a convention this year and that other accomations be made for those that wish to gather. Sorry state of affairs. |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Bob P on Apr 8th, 2003, 8:19am Not even OUCH funds. The Bylaws say the convention is self supporting. Don't know how much of a convention you can fund with 12 registrations (BTW-off the top of my head, I think I've seen 7 actual registrations come through). No more "I think I'm gonna be there" or "maybe". Make a decision people! |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by don on Apr 8th, 2003, 10:04am You do the work to organize it in LA and we'll all be there. Do you know how much work has gone into the NY convention? |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Frank on Apr 8th, 2003, 10:21am Sorry... bad attempt to humerously explain why I can't travel to New York. I can't afford it. |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by don on Apr 8th, 2003, 10:39am understandable. I haven't met any affluent CHers. Seems like we are all poor! No harm done bud. |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by don on Apr 8th, 2003, 10:46am You are correct about the convention bylaw......BUT..... If we followed the bylaws to the letter then OUCH would dissolve altogether. There is never enough response from the BOD to gather a quarum to get anything done. |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Aussie on Apr 8th, 2003, 7:00pm Its not in my nature to through rocks - but here comes a few. 12 people registered is pathetic!! Thousands of sufferer visit this site, mostly from the USA, and express how shithouse Ch's are. Now you have the opportunity to get behind this convention and show a united force to gain a bit of medical attention, and what do you all do, hide under a rock. If the sufferers don't take this illness seriously, how can we expect the medical industry to be bothered with us. My excuse for not registering is that I live on the other side of the world and am currently on standby for the big cleanup. Here's your chance, stand up and be accountable, dont sit on your ass and feel sorry for yourself. !! Steve |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by catlind on Apr 9th, 2003, 6:15am Everyone out there who is financially strapped, I understand your position. I'm certainly not wealthy, hell Clark's in the military hehe. Next year, I want EVERYONE doing what Linda does, what I was doing until I got the hosting. Save your change. Plan to be at the convention in advance. Registration has been $75 every year almost, and the hotels have been consistently in the $100/night range. If this goes off this year, we will have made our place in the medical community and every year hereafter will continue to grow, not just with us, but with the medical professionals :) To all who want to come no matter what, as of June 1st I have to release what rooms we don't use. Actually they want to know by the 18th of May but I'm sweet talking the CH owner hehe. So if you have already registered for a room, your room will be safe. Charlie, I've said I don't know how many times, I'll come get you! You aren't that far away :) Oh yeah, you could probably convince me to take you home too ;) Drk and anyone else with kids: I have a child care OUCH camp set up. Well, right now it's only got 4 kids in it hehe, mine and Ree's. If you can at all make it, and want to have the kids taken care of, my neice is going to be keeping the kids here at the house, and Clark is coming back to spend the nights here for supervision. If you did bring them to the convention, there is a full play area for them. I could always have Kailey come to the resort and watch the kids there as well. She's being paid handsomely for her contribution :) Frank, you are a little far away to consider bringing your kids LOL Aussie, being in australia is no excuse ;) Then of course you aren't going to be in australia LOL, so you are off the hook, be safe in your foray into the sandbox again :) Grant, skip the greyhound start walkin ;) :-* Revenue Canada can't find you in upstate LOL You can walk with Tanner LOL Cat |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Wendy the Brit on Apr 9th, 2003, 6:05pm Dear Cat Below is from the OUCH UK site. It would be great if you could come, I have a spare bed if you need to stay for more than one night. There might be a bit of a piss up involving certain badly behaved British girls you have heard on CH.Com which you may have to attend as well. The OUCH UK Annual Conference will take place on Sunday June 29th and is to be held in the Arthur Thompson Hall at the University of Birmingham’s Medical School, Edgbaston. Arrive by 10.00 - 10.30 am for coffee/registration: finish time will be around 4.30 pm. All Cluster Heads (and their supporters/partners) most welcome. You don’t need to be a member of OUCH UK to attend. At the current time can confirm that Professor Goadsby will be the Keynote Speaker, plus Professor Trembath, Geneticist from University of Leicester will also share the platform to talk about his research into CH being an inherited Gene. Still trying to organise other medical speakers, so watch this space! Cost of this one day Conference is £12 per person, which includes lunch. There will be plenty of time to mix and chat informally to other sufferers and their supporters. Tickets are very much on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and you MUST book prior to coming so we can organise the catering. To make sure of your place, download and complete the Conference Booking Form and send it (with your remittance) to Anne Wailing at OUCH (UK), PO Box 7238, Kiln Farm, Milton Keynes. MK19 6WX. W the B P.S. I think there are about 200 people coming so far, which is not bad for a small island. |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by BonnieW on Apr 9th, 2003, 6:11pm I can't see why you would have to cancel the convention - even if you only had 15 participants. The $75 registration fee should cover all the costs for each person - whether 10 or 100. Of course you can get some breaks on things if you have a bigger group, but the cost per person should be covered by the fee. I am sure that you will get more - this is typical - the commitment is very slow to start with, and more people come on board at the very end. The ones that register late, usually end up paying a higher registration fee, and might not get the better deal on a room, but that is what they should expect. I am sure that the convention will be a blast as always, no matter how many are there. Sure wish we were coming, but not this year. |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by catlind on Apr 9th, 2003, 6:12pm Geeeeeeeeeeeeeez Okay folks, the Brits have 200 going to their convention?? What's up with that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! June 29th huh? Perhaps I should go and video the speakers so that we can play it at the convention here! Then if we get enough interest and attendance and grants from companies, we can have the Great Goadsby come to the US next year!!!!!!!!!!!! Ummm Don, Mr. President, you wonderful, handsome, intelligent, generous man...did I mention handsome? hehe...can I go to Birmingham to video Dr. Goadsby for the convention? It won't cost you much! Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Bob P on Apr 9th, 2003, 9:26pm Cat, The Brits get a big turnout because none of them has to travel more than a couple hundred miles to get there. I think California is bigger than their entire country! They can all jump in their cars and be there in a couple of hours. Bonnie is right though. The registrations should cover everything no matter how many show. Also have the Glaxo grant from last year to work with. It's more a matter of pride. Cat and Don are doing such a great job of getting it noticed and lining up speakers. Would be a shame to have a small turnout and make them think the sufferers aren't concerned. If we don't do it folks, it ain't gonna get done! Good luck with the video idea. I asked last year if they could video his talk so we could watch it in Vancouver. I was completely blown off. I recall the response was, "I dont know. I'll have to take that matter up with the Trustees". Me thinks the Brits are a little possesive of Goads. |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by catlind on Apr 10th, 2003, 6:10am Bob, the glaxo grant is going to pay for the speakers and the doctors who aren't paying. And until I have a final figure on that I can't touch that money. As for the brits, if I fly to England to see Goadsby, I'll do whatever I damn well please, unless Goadsby himself denies me videotaping the talk. If I'm gonna fork over $800 to fly there, and pay the registration, then I don't understand what the problem is. Clark and I talked about it and he is all for it. So I will be looking into booking a flight and going to Birmingham. (besides my mom grew up in Nottingham a stones throw away) As for the number of people you're right. If there's only 10 then there's only $750 to work with to pay for the meal, the refreshments, the oxygen, the goodie bags, door prizes, and shuttle services. It would mean a considerably less professional presentation, and certainly won't go far in getting us taken seriously in the medical community. As for breaks for discounts, that comes for the goodies, almost all require a minimum of 50 and some are 100 before they'll even consider printing anything up. The room rates are based on an all inclusive price that covers the cost of the hospitality room, the use of the conference room, and all the equipment we will need. I'm being quoted based on 50 rooms, not 10. I don't know how that would change. Bonnie, late registrants not only stand to pay more for a registration fee, but may well not get a room at all. This is high season for Alex Bay. Cat |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by BonnieW on Apr 10th, 2003, 2:09pm Cat - I know it is difficult with the hotel. I also got rates last year based on 50 rooms being rented. We got our Hospitality Suite free, and the hotel paid for our Meeting Room because of a mix up on their part. We did not get the 50 rooms rented, but when I looked at the number of rooms mulitplied by nights, it was more than 50 rooms for 2 nights, as most people stayed at least 3 nights. I am sure the registration will pick up! We did end up with one person staying across the street, as they were too late to book hotel room last year. Keep up the good work! |

Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Wendy the Brit on Apr 10th, 2003, 8:10pm Cat Just to let you know that I have put a polite message on OUCH UK to ask if you can video Prof Goadsby's speech W the B |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by MOBster on Apr 11th, 2003, 5:48am Well I can only speak for the OUCH (UK) Trustees and NO such request was made of us for last years conference ! If you asked Simon Bower then that is between you and him :-X There was a video going around last year of PG at the conference but nothing came of it sadly :( If it had you would have been quite welcome to a copy. If someone wants to come to this years conference and take a video of PG (as long as they have his prior approval) then we don't have an objection - why would we ??? ???. We don't know if any of our members are thinking of taking a video or not but that's up to them. I can say that there will not be any official OUCH (UK) video of PG's speech - the Trustees have enough to sort out :( As for your other comments re the UK Bob, I will treat them with the contempt that they deserve :-X Best Wishes, Michael (MOB) |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by catlind on Apr 11th, 2003, 6:05am Thank you Wendy, thank you MOB, will let you know by Monday if I am going to be there and will send my registration priority. I think it would be great for all of us on this side of the pond to be able to see the Great Goadsby! I am not at liberty to say this is an official OUCH copy or anything like that, besides, I'm not that good at video tapes LOL. Cat |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Bob P on Apr 11th, 2003, 8:17am MOB, I acknowledge that my remarks cause you to feel contemptuous but I can only go by the facts, which are that I contacted the leader of OUCH-UK, Simon Bower at that time, and asked if it would possible to have Doc Goadsby's talk videoed so I could share it with the OUCH US bunch. I was rather coldly told "I don't know if that will be possible. It will have to be approved by the Trustees". Evidently the request was never presented to the Trustees. I'm very happy to see that my impression of the reponse I received is wrong and I appoligize for posting my assumption as it is evidently an erroneous assumption. |
||
Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by MOBster on Apr 11th, 2003, 2:22pm Thanks for that Bob Ahh now I see the situation - the facts are not always what they seem to be methinks ;) May I start (on behalf of myself and the other Trustees) by apologising for the response you received from Simon. He did not inform us of your request and had no authority to turn it down under any circumstances. May I also take this opportunity to point out that the only leader of OUCH (UK) is the chairman Chris Willis. He was appointed to this role by the Trustees of OUCH (UK) at the very start of the charities formation. May I please also apologise for anything else that was done or said in the name of OUCH (UK) without the Trustees knowledge. >:( Now that's all done I am going back to the America Unite thread. And I thought our politics were bad ;D Best Wishes, Michael (MOB) OUCH (UK) Trustee |

PROF GOADSBY'S SPEECH- good news Pasted from the OUCH site Tuesday, April 15, 2003 - 05:43 pm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As promised, have spoken to PG about this today. Pleased to confirm that he has no problem with his conference speech being videoed and shared by any of the OUCH groups world-wide. As the Trustees will be too busy on the day to physically carry out this filming themselves, is there anyone prepared to take on the responsibility of doing it/making and sending out copies?? Please email me if you'd like the job of 'unofficial cameraman/woman' at the Conference M Pasted by Wendy the Brit Sorry if any of the OUCh trustees were going to post this. Title: Re: Convention may be cancelled Post by Wendy the Brit on Apr 21st, 2003, 1:19am Cat, Anthem as well? and Jonny Good news Pasted from an email I got yesterday from Mo in the UK Hi Wendy, Just read the thread on the ch.com board about whether there is an opportunity to ask questions at the UK Conference. The answer is yes, there is such an opportunity! It's a busy day with each speaker being given an allocated time span, but we plan out the talks so that time is allowed at the end of each Speaker's session for questions to be invited from the floor. Professor Trembath will be bringing a team of medical practitioners with him (subject to his Ethics Committee approval) as he'd like diagnosed CHers to fill in the relevant form/supply blood samples during the course of the day to aid his Genetics research programme. I hope you'll roll up a sleeve and offer a sample of blood for this? Look forward to meeting you and Cathy (and Cat?) in June. Are you booked in to the WestLodge Hotel in Edgbaston? Kind Regards, Mo Mo Graham OUCH UK Trustee Love from W the B |

I am sure many of you can relate. But, If by some wild-a s s, freako miracle, we should happen into a lot of money, we will be there. Even if for just one day. We have a great doc coming to talk WITH us about the new research for CH from the New England Center for Headaches that Dr. Rapaport founded. We have other speakers coming as well, including a crisis intervention counsellor to discuss how to get immediate help when we hit bottom. OUCH has gained recognition from the World Headache Association and from the National Headache Foundation. I'd hate to think that everything that's gone into this is a waste of time. But if it has been, speak up and let me know not to waste anymore time or money. OUCH is not CH.com they are seperate entities, albeit one exists in direct relation to the other. OUCH is a legal non profit organization with specific goals. The convention is a means to work towards achieving those goals. What a waste it would be if bickering on a message board is enough to completely undermine the efforts of a corporation attempting to gain ground and knowledge in the medical arena. That's my 2 cents worth. Let me know by the 18th of May if you cannot or will not attend. I'll release the rooms and those of us that will be there will enjoy a party. Cat |
