Title: Running Cures My Clusters!!! Post by Cluster_Head101 on Apr 6th, 2003, 8:40pm This past Saturday I was at a 5k race in Valparaiso and a cluster headache came up on me. I went for a warmup run and my headache was gone in 5-10 minutes. This is the second time that going for a run got rid of my cluster. Of course you need to run right as the cluster is starting and not wait til it is at its peak. I am not sure why or how but it has worked twice for me. |

Title: Re: Running Cures My Clusters!!! Post by Roxy on Apr 6th, 2003, 8:46pm Glad you found something that will help abort your ch's. Exercise does help some people to abort, but it also brings on ch's for some people. Hope it keeps doing it's thing for you. The theory is that is redirects the blood flow to other parts of the body. If you search the site, you can find a much more professional explanation than mine. It has been discussed here before. PFDAN, Tracey |

Title: Re: Running Cures My Clusters!!! Post by Bob P on Apr 6th, 2003, 9:21pm Exercise will abort mine too. Riding a bike or doing squats until my things burn (this is my favorite). When I signed the guestbook about 3 1/2 years ago, the right before me said he ran up a hill behind his house to abort his. Not sure if the heavy breathing oxygenates the blood, the exercise releases endorphins, the blood goes to the muscles and not the head or something else is at work. |

Title: Re: Running Cures My Clusters!!! Post by Marc on Apr 7th, 2003, 12:01am I've been laughed at before for posting this, but I'll say it again: After all these years of being chronic, vigorous exercise is still my #1 abortive - IF I do it at the first hint of a CH coming on. Like Bob said, I don’t know if it’s an aerobic effect, endorphins or Charlie's re-direction of blood – but if I make my thighs burn enough, it kills a CH. For me, it's even faster than Trex. If you haven't tried it, don't laugh - it's free! Marc |

Title: Re: Running Cures My Clusters!!! Post by Cluster_Head101 on Apr 7th, 2003, 6:40pm Well my running backfired today. I came down with a cluster around 3:40 picking up the daughter from school. I got home and started to run at the local park but it did not work this time and it just started to hurt more. I actually ended up having a pretty bad one today and it was IN THE AFTERNOON!!!! I never have afternoon headaches. Looks like another brutal cycle and it is not any fun. |
