Title: Views from a soldier Post by thsa/simon on Mar 29th, 2003, 10:39am Well, I am back from doing things I cannot tell you all about and it pains me to read some of the garbage in some of these posts. I admit I was angry and contemplated writing some really hardcore ranting and raving, cursing and swearing, but I figured that what I gained in intensity, I would lose in persuasion. So instead I will give you all 3 things to think about. 1) When I was younger I went to East Germany with several friends. We were accosted by a Russian woman, who when she found out that we were American, scolded 'what makes your country so great? what makes you think that America is better than everyone one else?' Before I could answer one of my female friends said, 'I can come vistit you in your country, can you come visit me in mine?' When the older woman sais nothing, my young friend burst into tears and said 'that's what makes us great'. Apply this to Iraq. 2) For everyone that believes in the whole 'one world-one voice', let me ask you. Who voice rings CLOSER to your view of the world George Bush or Saddam Hussein? 3) When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush. He answered by saying that, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return." It became very quiet in the room. So as a soldier, I do NOT want war. No one does, as there is no wisdom in it. But sometimes it is necessary. At this point it doesn't matter if you are for this war or against it, to Hussein and his ilk, you are the infidel and he wants you dead. SO STFU AND LET ME DO MY JOB PROTECTING YOU ASS FROM SUCH PEOPLE, SO THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL ME A BABY KILLING, MURDERING, FASCIST WHATEVER-IT-IS YOU WANT TO CALL ME. STICK YOU HEAD BACK IN THE SAND AND I'LL TELL YOU WHEN ITS OVER. simon |

Title: Re: Views from a soldier Post by catlind on Mar 29th, 2003, 11:36am Simon, Thank you for your sacrifices. It pains me to see a defender of our freedoms hurt by bickering and dissent. Your sacrifice to the defense of freedom is honored in this home, and very much appreciated. Please everyone remember that sacrifice is not just when a soldier is gone, their families, and everything about their lives suffers and sacrifices when a military service member is deployed. Simon you have printed 3 wonderful and moving points to consider. Cat |

Title: Re: Views from a soldier Post by sailpappy on Mar 29th, 2003, 11:38am ;D ;D Simon, Are you sure we're not related! Great point made and having survived Nam and the aftermath I know just what you talking about, I have been spit on, slapped in the face, had milkshakes poured over my head and called some words I would not care to share, but I thought I was doing the right thing fighting for all of those peoples right to say and have what ever opinion they wanted to have, didn't appreciate the disrespect, I don't think the Peace Demonstrators understand that if you and I and a lot of other Baby killers didn't heed the call to defend our freedom they just might really be dead in the street, Thanks Brother! Title: Re: Views from a soldier Post by fubar on Mar 30th, 2003, 5:37pm Simon, Thank you for fighting for me. I appreciate my freedom, and if I could write a personal "Thank You" to every soldier I would. Please try not to be angry with the vocal anti-war people. They don't know what they are doing. They don't realize how ironic it is they protest against the very freedom they have. With many of them, they believe their heart is in the right place. In debates like this, people tend to become quite closed-minded. Their stance, being principles-based no matter what side they are on, makes it difficult to be rational when listening or responding to the opposing argument. So in summary... there are many of us behind you. The rest are morons so ignore them. ;) -Fu |
