Title: OUCH members
Post by don on Mar 28th, 2003, 11:06am
We are the forgotten/ignored few.

I have proposed to the BOD on the buissness board that OUCH place an ad in the journal of the AMA publicising the 2003 convention and that registration fees be waived for any Docs who wish to attend,

Feed back?

Fantastic Idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me know when it's settled, and I will extend an invitation to the local Dr's.  I'm sure that we could get some to attend from around here :)

FUCKENEH !!!

Even if they can't attend, it might bring CH to another awareness level with the doctors who read it.

Excellent idea, Don! Shows that we are an established entity!  Now, all we need is to sponsor a NASCAR race team, and we're in there!   ;D

We could buy out the Bunny Ranch in Vegas and handout brochures at the door.

If someone asks me to be the manager I'll consider it.

Don, will you be the manager?

Good idea but it won't work.
The Bunny Ranch is a couple hundred miles from Vegas.
There are no sleeper houses in Vegas. It's against the county laws. The Las Vegas Strip isn't even in Vegas nor is Lake Las Vegas, it's in Henderson.
The closest "ranch" is in Pahrump, in the next county over. It's called the Chicken Ranch.

Please don't ask how I know this stuff. ;)

Don,

Good inventive idea. It shows us how to think outside the box.

Realistically, since the convention is not being held in a centrally located, major city, the number of Doctors enticed by this ad, to attend, will probably be minimal. So we focus on your second point: “bring awareness”.

Since we are paying for the ad, let’s get “multi-use” out of it. In the ad:

  1. Offer any Doctor (who responds to the ad) a free Video CD, of a “Suicide Headache” attack. They have read about it (maybe), they’ve heard about it (maybe) but they have never seen one (for sure). They have got to be curious, and Doctors do love freebees. Also on the CD, we include reprints of medical literature (The Greatest Hits of Dr. Goadsby). Since no one has ever seen a video like this, we can be sure that they will share it with their peers, extending the reach to our target audience, many fold.

  2. After they respond, we file their names in a data base—knowing that these Doctors are, at least, interested. We will build a base of medical professionals, that are aware of Cluster Headaches, and target them, with mass mailings (email etc.), to help us disseminate information and spread the word. One important point, is that the Doctors who respond, will become our pathway, and our friends.

  3. These two free offers, will show the Medical Community, that we are here, we are legitimate, and that we are reaching out in peace, putting aside our anger and frustration (within reason).

Good job, Don.

Just trying to row,
David J.

great idea don!!!
it's not that far from the michigan headache clinic and i am reasonably sure that dr. saper could/would at least send a rep. if approached properly.

i prefer the vegas idea tho ;D ;D

Tim,

Are you a patient of Dr. Saper's??  He is one of the Dr's I've invited to speak at the convention.  Since he was heading up the civamide trials and has lots of good things written about him re the Mich. Headache Clinic, I was hoping he would speak.

If you are a patient, do you mind doing some OUCH work? LOL

(I've just sent out a second round of letters in case they didn't get the first one - receptionists can be a pain in the ass to get past)

It appears that the ad may not cost us a cent. In a response from the classified manager she asked if we would like to run the ad as a "Public Service Announcement" My response "why of course we would"

She'll get back to me.

Great idea, don!

If OUCH has the money, why not do both the PSA and the paid ad? If OUCH doesn't have the money, let's pitch in.  Have you looked into ads and/or PSA's in other journals? I can check into that if you want.

I like David J's CD idea too.  We will have to get copyright permission from the medical journals if we want to publish full articles on the CD...might not be a problem in Goadsby's case since he's editor of Cephalgia, but otherwise I don't know how hard that might be. At least we could do abstracts and references. Maybe we could throw in some other resources like annotated links to specific pages on CH.com and CH.org and other CH info on the web.

1 step at a time.

Lets get the ad in.

If anyone would like to make video CDs please do so. We can make them available at the convention.

Don,

You have given us a VICTORY!  During the whole time that I have been on this MB, the Cluster Family has never gotten a break  You went out and single-handedly, got us a break. You show us that just one person, with determination and a vision, can make a difference. My hat is off to you, Mr. President. Never doubt, that you have my full support.

You’ve probably got this covered, but, could we flood all the medical journals, with a free ad?

Cat: Your post was inspired.

Help always, hurt never.

Im posting this for Tricky Don Nixon.

For some reason I cant log on to the MB so I cant start a new post. Wanna post this for me.

I received a phone call from the Journal of the AMA. They will run the OUCH ad as a public service announcement free of charge. I will send them a disc with an ad on it.

Numerous pharmaceutical companies have been contacted with info and an invite. Next will be the ins. Companies and HMOs.

Any OUCH business should be sent to
ouch03@msn.com
