Title: Did Something Stupid
Post by TomM on Mar 26th, 2003, 8:46am
Well, I got hit with a Kip 8/9 on the way home last night. I felt it brewing as I was riding on the Metro and by the time I got into my vehicle, WHAM! So, naturally like most CHers, I drove home rocking and rolling and pushing my way through traffic while applying pressure to my temples. I took my nasal Imetrex as I left the parking lot but the motion and lights were killing me. By the time I got off the highway to the road by my house I was peaking @ a Kip 8/9....then some clown cut me off. He pulled out from a McD's and I slammed my brakes so hard the anti-locks kicked in (I drive an Expedition). As I passed him in the other lane he flipped me off. THAT put me over the edge and here is where I got STUPID. I chased him and gave him the scare of his life. Not a nice thing to do and the reason I tell you is feel like shit over it. As it turns out, I did nothing to him but becasue of MY STUPID behavoir, I backed into a poor innocent lady behind me and disabled her mini-van by bursting the radiator. I called my wife and told her I just got into an accident, no one was hurt, and I was in the middle of an attack. Luckily for me the lady thought she was to blame but I assured her it was me. So my insurance will pay the damages to her mini-van (fender, hood, radiator, turn signal, and headlight) and only a dimple in my bumper. I feel horrible.
What can I do to a) make it up to the guy I chased? b) prevent this outragous behavoir from happeneing again?
This is not the first time I've done this and this rage inside of me intensifies during my cycle.
Feeling really shitty about this...  :-[

Drive with a Kip 8/9? Are you sure you have CH ;D
Past a 7 I can do nothing productive. I guess I am just a wimp :-[
I tried to drive once with a 7 and I couldn't stay on the road.  I'll never do that again. Sounds like you shouldn't either. At least is wasn't too bad. Thanks for the story.

If I was me and I know I am, I would do the following:

A.  I would not expend the energy to try to make it up to the guy that cut me off.  He has probably done it a thousand times before and maybe this will serve as a warning to him to be alittle more careful.

B.  Pull off the road and sit somewhere until the CH subsides or the traffice starts to thin out.

C.  If so inclined -- pray for understanding, tolerance, patience, forgiveness, and move on.

To me, when in the throws of  a cycle we sufferers become like the wounded dog that no one should approach for fear of losing their lives.

Opus--my freind--I'm sure. Was it painful to drive @ night w/ a Kip8/9? You bet! But in my mind, I had no choice. All the CHers I've talked to are very strong minded--like holding off on meds until THE VERY LAST moment.
I've noticed I can hold back some of the pain until I reach a safe haven, like my bedroom, where I feel I can flip out w/o any problems. That is what happended last night.
As I replay the incident in my mind, I don't recall feeling any pain while chasing this poor fellow. Wierd. I suppose I took my mind off the pain and focussed on something else.
THERE is my answer! Kill the pain by focussing on something else.
Now to make ammends...

So true, but not an excuse to do what I did.

Hey, TOM-
Here it is..... ABSOLUTION!!!!!... ;)....now, does that feel better? ;D Reread what Echo wrote- I can't see how you could possibly expect a different kind of outcome, if you're driving with a kip-above anything!! Echo's "in the throes of a hit while driving" story is a bit different than yours- he pulled over and was picked up by a tow truck driver, whose dad, I think it was, had clusters!! Put his "Burban on the flatbed, took him right to his driveway.......HEEEE got lucky, YOU got an anal orefice in your face.....
If the lil lady is okay, and you've got coverage, then it's no harm, no foul......oh, and Tom? Be nice, when you can, okay??

Ramdon act of kindness. I like it. Thanks, don  :)

Plenty of coverage on both ends. After my spousal unit showed up, they bonded...both being snakes, I mean sharks, sorry, I mean lawyers and all. The lady's hubby is a lawyer, too.
Just my luck. I have a fender bender and three lawyers show up. Too bad no one was hurt.  ;)

And thanks, Opus, Echo, brain_cramps, and Jarvis for the insight.

Glad everyone was okay from the fender bender.  I'm still in shock that you can drive when your head is cranked up like that!!   :o

I wouldn't be feeling to shitty about chasing the guy...sounds like he's not a newbie to road rage.  I'm just glad you were up north.  Down here you'll get a gun pulled on you..... everyone has a concealed weapons permit.  Eighty bucks and a class gives anyone the right to hide a pistol.  Road rage and weapons...think that's why they passed the open container law a few yrs. back.  Then we had road rage, weapons and open alcohol....quite a combination!!! :-/

Don't let the guilt get you.  CH's tend to do a Jekyll and Hyde number on us (at least on me).  You had a medical reason for being angry.....the guy that cut you off doesn't....except maybe just being an a**hole.

Tracey

btw, we missed you last Sun.

Rox--I missed not meeting up with you and Mr. Happy, too. Next time. I was shadowing pretty hard Saturday night and Sunday morning. Then I got a breather and went out to rake the front lawn. Next time, my dear. Next time.

Gun permit? Drinking and Driving? My anger? CH's? That is a recipie for JAIL TIME. Plus...da spousal unit said "I'm not posting your bail anymore."  ;) [Not EVERTHING that 14 yr. old girl said is true. ;D]

If I could remember the things I do during my cycle I'd write a book and be on Letterman.

Apparently!

You aren’t taking Lithium for your clusters.

DougL

I tried driving once! While getting hit.
Bad idea! I hit the curb and blew out both tires on the driver’s side of my car. I have never done that again.

Tom, I'm sorry you had to go through the CH and all the other stuff, but damn, a fender bender and 3 lawyers, that had me rolling with laughter!!!!!!!!

As for being able to drive in those conditions, it's no different than being in public and getting hit, you muster every ounce of energy in every cell of your body to get through and get done what you have to do and then you find your haven to let loose.

If it had been me, the guy would probably still be cleaning the shit out of his pants.  You should see the faces on guys that chased down by women that are enraged, it scars them for life ;)
