Title: Another way the beast messes with us
Post by K. on Mar 6th, 2003, 1:41am
Tonight I was helping my 7 yr old son get ready for bed. He hasn't been feeling well the last couple of days...low grade temperature with a scratchy throat and a headache on and off. Tonight he looked so sad...on the edge of tears....and was really quiet...so I thought maybe he was having a problem at school. Well to make a long story short..I finally got him to tell me what the problem was. He started to cry and said that he thinks he is going to get cluster headaches like me because he has been having headaches. I about died. I felt so bad for him that he was worrying about that. He is only 7 and he shouldn't live in fear of getting cluster headaches because I do.

This is just one more example of how the beast also messes with the ones we love. We suffer with the tremendous amount of pain and our families suffer by watching us go through it.

Sorry for the long post but just wanted to share.

Karen

Know how you feel.  Those kids.. they can make you're heart hurt, cant they?  Gotta love em

My husband has the Ch.. not me.  One day my youngest, 8 yrs old Alyssa, comes up to me, crying, and says...
"Is my daddy going to die?"
I told her no, and that these headaches wont kill him.. .. and tried to explain.. but she's 8 - she doesn't get it.

But, it broke my heart.  She's so scared for him.  She sees him on the O2 and gets so freaked out she goes to her room.  I dont know what to do for her either.

And, now.. I think she's faking headaches. She told me the other day that she couldn't go to school, because she has a headache, and she needs oxygen.  and the school doesn't have oxygen in the nurses office.  What do you do about that??

ARGGGGGGG   :-[

Fucking beast!!!

Karen,
My 8 year old gets headaches too. I was the one who was worried that she was getting CH. The cause hasn't been found but they aren't CH's. Let him know that CH is not really a headache, and that normal headaches don't lead to CH. I'm sure there are some peaple here that never have had a normal ha. I hope this helps. PFDAN

I know what you mean. My 11yr old son asked me last week if I thought he was getting clusters. What do you say? ??? He possibly could get them, no guarantee he won't. I pray he doesn't. He also gets bad headaches and has for a few years. Not sure what kind they are right now. They have just begun happening now on his left side of his face/eye area though, which makes me nervous. They are just not following a cluster pattern at this point, so praying it doesn't turn into that later.

I asked my neuro what the chances are that my kids (don't have any yet) may end up with CH. He told me that the odds were lower than the odds of getting CH in the first place and that they weren't typically passed down from generation to generation. I don't have any other CH sufferers in my family at all...

Anyone can get headaches and or in these cases perhaps it's some kind of sympathy pain?? Then again, with young children, you never know...

Stay Positive..

Maybe you should tell them that CH doesn't occur in children... only in mommies and daddies..  ???

Karen...I know that has to be tough to deal with, explaining to a young child has got to be difficult.  Thankfully, my children are old enough to understand these things....but, even as old as they are...it scares them horribly if they see me getting hit.  My daughters eyes just fill up with tears, and my youngest son can't even watch or listen.

Guilt heaped on top of ch's...you're right.  The beast fucks with every area of our lives.....sometimes life really sucks.

Thanks for sharing,
Tracey

I got a CH yesterday at 6:30 am and My seven year old had to go to school, well I couldn't send her because I needed her to help me with my 2 yr old who has never seen me like this.  Any way it got so bad my 7 year old just kept saying "Mommy what is the phone number to get the Dr's to come here " (911)   As much pain I am in I feel worst for the ones who have to see us like this.
